It's been canvassed here before ... beware predicating anything on sales ring prices - especially with relatively new sires who the studs are trying hard to hype up.
You may not realise the same returns for the progeny of that sire that the big studs appear to "achieve" in teh sales ring.
There is more smoke and mirrors and skulduggery at the yearling sales than in Todd Barclay's Clutha-Southland electorate.
Results on the track will tell the story for the established sires (but be careful how these stat.s are expressed by parties with vested interests  ....make sure you compare like with like).
And for the new sires - it's always gonna be a punt I believe - I've got some very right in the past and some others proved to be rather average.

When assessing any mating the first place I look is the male line of the mare, and as we can see Iffraaj is from the male line of Mr Prospector. This will work perfectly with Wrote as he is from the Northern Dancer male line and this (Mr P /ND ) cross has proved an invaluable nick. It gives a duplication of Native Dancer, sire of Northern Dancer's dam.  Adding to the mix is Iffraaj being out of a Nureyev mare which will give line breeding to Wrotes female line (duplicating the mare Special)
The other pattern with the 2nd dam being by Zabeel just as important.  The positions in the pedigree where the line breeding occurs (both in the mare and the stallion ) to my mind perfect.

A further pattern not highlighted is between Nijinsky and The Minstrel.

As well as the Sir Ivor duplication,  making the Wrote / Zabeel mating even hotter is the line breeding to 'Special "  Zabeel being out of a Nureyev mare.

Possibly one of the only ways to use the horse Diesis in New Zealand is with mares lower in the pedigree by the stallion Dagger's Drawn.

The 4th dam of Kris is Sweet Angel who is the also the dam of Sucaryl.  I believe an important part of this horse's pedigree.

Agree Shad.... Even the best stallions only produce a Group One winner about 1 in 30 runners.  O'Reilly was more like 1 in every 90 so tough for brood-mare owners too. Zabeel was a champion stallion but could sire a plodder as well.  Much of my research today is focused around mares that can produce two Group ONE winners.  Line breeding appears to be a big factor.
I think there is much to be gained and very little to loose by using line breeding to achieve better results.
Volksraad mares should prove a great match with Wrote. With that in mind I think a second pattern involving the mares lower in the pedigree is essential.

Another example of using the mares male line to connect with the stallions brood-mare sire.  The second pattern is just a repeat of the first.

Agree with you La Zip, and the expected progeny would also have a double of Sadler's Wells  which is appearing in a number of good horses in the UK.
If you are unable to breed to the  'Special' bloodlines with WROTE there is still a multitude of options using line breeding to help increase the odds of producing a good horse.
So before expand on these I will explain a little on what I consider to be a good pedigree from a 'line breeding point of view.
This horse below is a great example aof one and was Horse of the Year in 20012 & 2013 and winner of  $7.5 million.
When planning thoroughbred matings I always start with the male line of the mare.  Using one of the names on this 'male line' I would try and breed back to it as above,(through the bottom line of the stallion,) and if not possible then to one of the 'brood-mare sires' in that female line like below

Thanks Paddy.....I will put together a host of examples of hypothetical mating's with Wrote.  The pattern that I will be using is seen in many outstanding horses.  It is using the 'male line of the mares' and connecting these with the brood-mare sires in the stallion.  Creating two 'line breeding patterns ' is also important.
Wrote's sire High Chaparral is another great example of this.

Every owner wants to have a bit of flavour of the moment. Rich people who no F all about the industry or breedng want to tell their mates that they own something by a sexy sire. Just the way it is.

A better call was when Tony Lee took a client around to look at Rough Habit,he was not impressed and told T Lee NEVER to waste his time showing him a horse like Roughie again, but T Lee did contact him every time he won a G1.

I've always agisted my mares for foaling, then walk in services to Linwood Park from Monovale Farm and back. Excellent results and no problems with registrations over the years. Tony Mudgeway an excellent Stallion Manager and Monovale Farms outstanding care of both mares and foals. I believe Linwood have not agisted or foaled at their farm for some years. I'm holding noms for stallions this coming season.
I too hope past problems are sorted now. Both Ekraar and Echoes of Heaven excellent value and have produced great results for us.
N.B. Countofmontecristo came off the track at Kranji 14 May in the 3 yr old Guineas lame in the near foreleg. Glenn Boss says he nursed him to third and he's a true G1 horse who would have won. Much more ahead for him. Going back this year to EOH.

No Berri , Swynford added these comparisons as "extras". The original comparison of his selections vs the top 15 in the sale still stands and that is what he did at the start of his update.
