  1. The photo of Mary n' Eileen looks a lot like her sire. Indy King stats of runners to winners and stakes races must be reasonably high. Henri - it is great to have a discussion on this site that is informative and interesting - had hoped the knockers and nasty ones had disappeared. They have no place in this thread. Everyone has a favourite theory and intelligent people respect others opinions and can always learn from them. Breeding is not an exact science with so many genes flying around. Just look at a family of 6 children - not all are alike or even look alike - traits are there but all are different in so many ways.

  3. I too have tried to match up mares on Dalacine Farm website to no avail as not working. Did advise Grant and he should be aware that most of the studs which have stud matching services are kept up to date - a very useful tool when choosing a stallion. Up to date websites are essential if one wants to keep an edge. Doesn't matter what programme you have - Goldmine, Tesio or Nicks - all serve their purpose and help
  4. Please refer to previous post about shares in this 3yo filly. She is going back to breakers next week for a couple of weeks refreshing after being broken in last year. Scarlet will then go to going to Steve Kellow, Russley, Christchurch, to train. 20 shares @ $100 per month per share. Steve has leased two fillies from us for two winners. Contact him on kellowfamily@hotmail.com or 0275574655 65% of shares taken up. Shareholders can choose 1 share or several depending on what they wish to have.
  5. There are 20 shares of 5%. 65% of shares are taken and you can have as many shares as you wish. I am hoping to get a photo of Scarlet up on this website sometime today. Her photo is up on Riccarton Park (CJC) website under syndications and shares. Anything else I can help with, just ask.
  6. Scarlet is a 3 year old filly by Sir Percy, the UK Derby Winner, out of Baneka Babe by O;Reilly Shares are $100 per month and she will be trained by Stephen Kellow of Russley, Christchurch, ex UK Scarlet was broken in last year and going back for refresher course at her breaker's, Lyndon Morris. She is well grown and ready to go into work. Please contact Steve Kellow. kellowfamily@hotmail.com or phone 0275574655 or land line 3429520
  7. Have a look at her parents & grandparents - it will give you a better indication of what size you might expect. Is she second or third generation "small" or just first generation "small"? She could be from average size parents which like the man above said - things revert to average in the main. Using a large stallion will not necessarily mean you will get large foals. You may get them popping up in the next generation instead should you breed a filly from that mating, in saying that you may get a large foal which could depend on his parents. Better to consider type and confirmation & from what damline she is from.
  8. Hi Catalano - this is usually after a mares name in a pedigree and refers to the fact that she has produced superior racehorse (s) who race and win at elite level. For a male, the word "sire" is the equivilant.
  9. There were still new stallions brought in again this year. Wonder what books they will get, especially if not proven?
  10. What other profession takes away a persons right to work for so many days. Better a heafty fine when big money has been won on the day.
  11. Can't see what point there is to people writing how sorry they are on this site. Would be better to sit down and write them a personal note or send a card so you know it will be read and perhaps offer a smidgeon of comfort to the Pitman family at this time of their grieving.
  12. Facebook.com/Ambrosius Fan Club Have a look - you could enjoy a share.
  13. Having been to a live filming of "Off The Rails" at Riccarton and listening to the banter between them all prior to the show starting - they had everyone in stitches, so entertaining. After watching Some Jockey that I Used to Know - it should go viral - thoroughly enjoyed the clip. I would expect it to be screened on "Off The Rails" sometime. A real good laugh.
  14. Congratulations to Jamie - he has already started on the next 1000
  15. Cromwell would be better - not a huge drive from Queenstown (which does not have enough flat ground for a start) but still a long haul for the performers on this dream track - trainers & horses. Has to be supported by a large local population who go to races more than once or twice a year. Huge local populations turn out for the country tracks as they make it a gala family friendly day. Maybe it is this idea is what is needed to be transported to the areas where very few turn up to races. With Queenstown - so many of the tourists turn up in the winter to ski - can't see them swapping for a day at the races instead. Meetings would need to be evening meetings to attract these people (maybe?????) Guess dreams are free and sometimes thinking outside the box works, so don't knock the dreamers.
  16. I suppose he pays a monthly fee for training as well or has syndicator been operating on horses earnings? If former then winnings will be due - the other way around he would most likely owe money. Usually a syndicate member pays monthy expenses per share. All the syndicates or shares I belonged to had monthly account for expenses - training, vet, track fee, shoes etc split into shares of the horse. When it won money, this share came off the monthly account and was clearly documented. It is laziness or sloppy work to have it any other way. All business people have a duty of care to clients whichever way you look at it and your son should be writing a letter to ask for invoices for care and training of his horse and distrubution of winnings. Syndicators have to be qualified to run a syndicate. Believe it is a share in a horse up to a certain number of people and if over the limit then it has to be syndicated by a duly registered person with a syndicate manager appointed.
  17. My theory on small fields in the R75 and up is because of the backlog of beginning horses not even able to get into a race because of huge entries in maidens. Being B5 on the ballot is not much fun after paying out for training fees - it means that there is little chance of making the race and if you do - only the bottom of the barrel of jockies to choose from. This area needs some serious looking at by NZTR & the NZRB. This where the "leakage" is as the average man in the street gets brassed off & pulls the plug on his training fees and gets out of the game. (not much fun or return) Horses balloted out more than twice should automatically get a start in the next race they enter but this state of affairs can go on and on with nary a start had.
  18. This shallow, light bird, what did you do with it? Race it - was it any good? or breed it? Did it leave any decent offspring? What was it's pedigree like (if they have 5-7 generation pedigrees like other animals?
  19. It was great to see his progeny quinella on Saturday - really neat for Goodwood Stud - Well done - Rex & William will be expecting more great things from here on in.
  20. Shhh - you never know - it could be in the pipeline for the jockies/trainers, after all most of the other sports perform a Haka, why not jockies and trainers???????
