  1. Thanks Swynford, maybe we put this one down to an out-cross that worked, as I think that he's a potential top-liner if he settles into HK
  2. Yeah but you rode when there were thousands on course, all screaming for their horse. These days at a midweek meeting there are only the strappers and a quarter of the trainers and a few pensioners with hearing aids. Most of the owners are at work trying to make the money to pay for the extra costs of getting their horse to Ruakaka. For God's sake the winning stake of the 7K races wont go very far, and that's for the winners. Of course they all heard him including the pensioners!
  3. Well, I will see if I can get some Committee Room Tickets then! Between Cubes and me I am sure that we will liven the place up. What do you say Cubes? Oh, Biff you can come to, as you live near by. von Smallhaussen if you are down this way, your attendance is equally as welcome.
  4. Cubes, talking to yourself again? Seriously though, bring her to Trentham if she is good enough to uphold the standards of the glorious southern raiders of the past, and I will look after you, that is for sure. Long live the south and the memories of the great ones.
  5. One decent one going through the grades. Win a Wellington Cup and you could retire. Today, the winning stake would get you a deposit on a house in the Hutt Valley and a "I told to piss off" in Auckland if you were trying to buy one there. P.S. Zelda might be able to get you one in the wild west suburbs of Melbourne though if you were lucky.
  6. Swynford, could you please put up the pedigree of Pearson Square and comment on it. Incidentally he has been sold to HK and wont race again in NZ, and sadly, there goes my pre-post fixed odds at really nice money in the 2000 Guineas!
  7. Who is Midget 1 and who is Midget 2? I am confused! Not easy I know, but only last week the 'other one' was saying he needed a 'new bird' and now someone mentions Karen! Who is who? Who's birthday is it anyway? This is starting to get more murky than Donald Trumps misdemeanors with women from what I can see! I hope that whichever one it is, doesn't get a birthday present from Karen, that was meant for the otherone!
  8. You are so correct, and Trentham was where it so often happened. Sadly everyone seems to have had their knife in for Trentham, such is it's demise, except that I predict that this years three day Cup Carnival will be the best in many a long year, given the one month delay to our Spring!
  9. The 80's were the best of times for racing. A bit like the 60's for music. Yes the 90's were OK too for racing as were the 70's for music, but it's been all slightly downhill ever since with a pick up in momentum as we have got closer to the present time. Disclosure: I am an old timer living on past memories, but I love it. Woodstock or The Stones, Show Gate or Drum, those were the days my friend, I wish they would never end.
  10. And rubbish [dross] to you too. Not for one minute do I support racing or breeding from inferior stock. But what I do do, is keep my fillies and race them in NZ and sell my colts generally for good money. [The last one for 200K] However having a filly in training in NZ and paying 3K+ per month isn't much fun when racing for 7 or 10K in maidens or one win races and 20k on Premier days, unless of course one is in in Black Type races and then they are only 50K. [For God's sake my one win horse is racing for 30k in NSW on Thursday, and it's not in the city and the training fees are not that much more, approx 4K per month!] To keep going forward, the only way is to retain quality fillies and race them before breeding from them, but who would want to, given the current state of NZ Racing. But the fact of the matter is that I like racing the fillies in NZ so that I can look after them better, such as turning them out when they need to be etc. At least the Pearl Series offers something positive for people like me. Those who take the gamble with the colts and geldings [mainly for sale] are not contributing very much at all, yet they are using all the facilities such as the subsidized training tracks etc and good on them. A mate of mine has just sold his one win gelding for 400k - bloody fabulous I say, but other than his back pocket, not much use to what we are all about, except I am sure that he will reinvest. P.S. If you are calling me a moron lets meet up at the RTR either next week or in Auckland and see who is who!
  11. Gruff, you are so correct. I should have said a treble or triptych. Now this was only a minor mistake so should it count as the third leg of my treble or triptych.
  12. I apologise. I was wrong. Al Akbar was Australian bred even if both of his parents ended up here in NZ shortly afterwards. Bugger, that's two mistakes this year. Hopefully it won't be a trifecta by Christmas. LOL
  13. "Vegas Showgirl was by an Aussie stallion Al Akbar!" I don't think that he was Aussie at all, but I could be wrong. If my memory serves me correctly he was by Success Express who stood at Trelawney at the time he was conceived and I presume reared. At that time a West Australian by the name of Robert Holmes A'Court owned the stud. Incidently Al Akbar retired first to Trelawney when it was under The ownership of the Taylor Family (and still is) then he moved to Grangewilliam Stud near Wanganui where he stayed until he died prematurely because of an accident.

  15. $5.50,tonight on the NZ TAB and $6.50 on Center Bet. They are the two that I use and at those prices I have take them, especially EW with Center Bet who are offering of $6.50 and $2.35. The EW is an incredible bet in my opinion. n0?
  16. High School? The first time or the second time? As some of you know the little master went back to high school a second time to finish what he didn't the first time or should I say prepare himself to take on all-comers whatever profession one should choice. Just to list a few: Champion Apprentice Jockey [South.Island, before going back to school] Veterinarian Bloodstock Agent for a short time Master Publican [The Fat Ladies Arms] Master Restauranter [Euro - I don't know who found who; Simon Gault or Leo Molloy] Excellent Trainer, but oh so short lived! Owner of the most popular Racing Blog Site - Race Cafe until forced to sell it. Lam-blaster of everyone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Rider of three champions, some only on the gallops; Showgate, Grey Way and Troy. What do you know that the little master doesn't? P.S. Leo, I don't want a phone call just because I am sticking up for you, but someone has to, as you are getting attacked from all sides although I see that scooby 3051 agrees with you today, which is a nice change. Liz
  17. Boss, are you suggesting that regular hard racing isn't conducive to a successful breeding career? Just curious!
  18. It's a beatiful track just on the outskirts of Paris. About 35/45 minutes by train depending on the stops. It is fair for all runners. It's also where the French Derby and Oaks are always run, plus it's where the majority of France's best trainers are situated.
  19. I find this information unbelievable, in fact I am in shock that this goes on and the world doesn't seem to care! Obviously most people are like myself, oblivious to the real world out there, when it comes to pharmaceutical companies.
  20. ??????? Sorry I don't know what to say in response. Liz
  21. Bezel that brained them in Newcastle is stakes class too. As Pogo would say, "you heard it here".
  22. I disagree, the knives have always been out. Just my opinion. Liz
