  1. Different. They are a service provider [Councils], not a "for profit" organisation like Warner Brows owned Newshub.
  2. Good point, cut the salaries and make it pay. Assuming that they all still get something reasonable to live on AND if it still can't work then and only then, close it down. Isn't that how the free market works? Well that's how it works in the two industries that I am involved in....horse breeding and art materials.
  3. Obviously you are suggesting the Cox Plate. Tonight my [retired] ex trainer who was a real horseman, suggested that she was a Cox Plate type mare. I didn't say it, but those NH raiders these days are bloody hard to beat.
  4. Ted, go to the results, then scroll right down until you come to the screen that shows the prices as at close off. The place price is correct. Why or how I don't know. Liz
  5. Congratulations Veandercross, a great effort by all.
  6. Seems like I went the early crow. Great match all the same.
  7. I believe Scooby has just pulled the rabbit out of the hat for the cellar dwellers, Showgate. If I am right what a matchup it’s been.
  8. I recall Bill and Mary English having a similar problem. It's seems as if you are correct in they know what they are doing, unless of course they get caught LOL P.S. I edited your quote by giving the past PM a capital A in her name.
  9. 1. Ellerslie R5 7 2. Ellerslie R6 3 3. Ellerslie R7 12 4. Ellerslie R8 9 5. Ellerslie R9 17 BB 6. Randwick R5 8 7. Randwick R6 1 8. Randwick R7 9 9. Randwick R8 4 10. Flemington R7 3 11. Flemington R8 1, 2 BB 12. Flemington R9 14 New tactics employed today. Single bets in all but one race. I can't do any worse than what I have been Thanks John and Scooby.
  10. Scratching replacements for Scooby: 7. Randwick R6 2 is out - replaced with 7 8. Randwick R7 4 is out - replaced with 1
  11. About church going PM Christoper Luxon claiming $52,000 per year to rent his own apartment? That’s more than a heap of people earn in a year. So typical of the rich when put in charge. They think that they can do what they like until they get caught out.
  12. Two points: 1] When Scooby said: Great planning before a Group 1 2400m race...they really don't have a clue, I don't think that he was having a go at you. 2] Did you accidentally type your last sentence the wrong way around? In other words with the Caps lock on, because you started the sentence with a small i? Or maybe you have caught it from Pogo. n0?
  13. Ok Leggy, educate me. What would a farmer consider a full renovation of a pasture. P.S. I forgot about the under-sowing that we always did.
  14. I am not sticking up for them, simply explaining what I think that they mean by "a full renovation of the Hastings turf" Yes it is normal practice or at least was when I was involved with a Racing Club who did a full renovation like that, at least twice a year. Having said that the club that I was involved with had 4 or 5 guys to look after the gardens, grounds and track back then. Now I think that they are down to one, maybe two. Every club is in the same position except maybe Ellerslie. The new "business orientated CEO's" have come in over the last 20 to 25 years, taken no notice of the old codgers on the various committees and said, "this is the way we are doing it now, as we simply don't have any money". [Truth] Go figure.
  15. "NZTR and the Club have also agreed to immediately undertake a full renovation of the Hastings turf to regain confidence in the track. More information will be provided by NZTR regarding this process once a detailed plan has been finalised" A full renovation [in layman's terms] means cutting the grass right back, removing any build up of debris material, aerate, fill divot holes, fertilize and irrigate to get the grass growing rapidly which hopefully it will, as it's still warm enough. The next meeting at Hastings is scheduled for 13 April, so my guess is that it will not be necessary to reschedule any race dates.
  16. Really? I cant believe what I have just read.
  17. With the imminent demise of Newshub, there is going to be up to 200 very talented people with "media skills" come on the market, between now and June. Entain/TAB, NZTR and the Harness people should be putting the feelers out now, for anyone who might have an interest in our Industry. My guess is that many of them would have an immense amount to offer, if you simply took a line through what Guy Hevelt brought to the Karaka Sales/Karaka race-night presentation. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have Samantha Hayes fronting Trackside. Don't laugh, maybe not Sam, but there are surely dozens of quality people waiting in the wings with nowhere to go. Liz

  19. But it was run in the Spring in those days.
  20. What a bloody mess, but am I surprised? Of course not, but as Gary Chittick used to say before he bailed out/gave up preaching to his seven followers, my five followers also know what and where it has gone wrong. After all you have heard it so often from me! Pam you are 100% correct, so obviously you are one of the seven who has listened. How do we get the glitterati who were on on TV last to listen, learn and correct what is going so wrong?
  21. How do the prices above compare with The Everest slots? From memory they seem about the same. The Kiwi slots are for 3 years, so I understand. Maybe The Everest slot prices were for one year, although I know that you were committed for three years. Are the Kiwi slots saleable or transferable? The Everest ones have certainly changed hands from time to time. Liz
  22. The draw and a better horse on the day beat Jimmy, plain and simple.

    Help!

Hi Spike, With a big team, more often than not, that sort of stat always suffers. Having said that, obviously the Telfer Team are doing very well. Is the first column the number of starters year to date, the second winners, the third wins and the forth place-getters? What does the last column represent, as it's certainly not the winning strike rate? In actual fact I can't work out what it actually represent. Finally, are these figures from this season and if so when did the season start, now that the Harness horses have a new birth date? P.S. I wish that with the wave of a wand I could have a new birth date. Liz

    Help!

Wilma’s Boy was certainly impressive the first time out. If they sort out his “naughtiness” he could be very good based on what I saw in that video. Thanks Ohokaman.

    Help!

Thanks Leggy, that was the NZ Cup on the Tuesday. I don't think that I was there, as I would have been working. The day that I referred to was 3 days later on Show Day, which of course in Canterbury is a Public Holiday. They were proper horses weren't they?
