  1. You can’t keep running these big meetings at a loss, the money for the land development might be good for a few years, but what do you sell next when that’s gone? Land development is a specialist activity, ask the Auckland Trottind Club!
  2. Two $100,000 paid employees in the office, interesting. Like to be a fly on the wall at the AGM, everyone has to wear name tags, voting time on a few testing issues. Grins might have been a good concept, but to run at such a loss? The Bar has been ordinary for along time, JT got the best out of it, he ran it superbly. Great location, but the patronage tells the story….
  3. Quite possibly, he had a few yearlings go to the sales by him, and raced a handy one to I think…
  4. Sad to hear Bee Cee, Brian Collins passed away overnight. Champion guy, a Counties Club Committee man, and alround good bloke. Condolences to Sandra and his family, RIP mate.
  5. One of life’s gentleman, I caught up with him last December at the Club there after having played in a golf tournament. Champion guy, RIP Johnny….
  6. Harry Long the dad, Barry and Murray the sons….
  7. And a bloody nice guy with it….
  8. I think both major trotting clubs up here in the North aren’t travelling to good….
  9. Michael has pretty well summed it up, I wouldn’t bother with a wind operation in any form or fashion, huge vets bill and no guarantees.
  10. To many Committee personnel that think they are track managers maybe the problem. Great track when maintained properly, obviously this has not been happening, hence no pass mark when it was supposed to be utilised.
  11. Nice day here, golf course was great…..
  12. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t, I didn’t see the fields, was there many travelling from down Country?
  13. He has signed on for another couple of years, he will be back one day when the time is right!
  14. 3 winners yesterday, great start to her first Saturday of riding…
  15. I have viewed it a few times and I think the decision was the right one, clearly the horse on the inside was carted in by the other horse, just my opinion….
  16. Wasn’t it a win and a half, good tempo in the race set the race up nicely, and a great ride from a good hoop!
  17. Warren Collett riding gallops, , sure Gallery was trained by Trevor Temm, I won a few on Trevor’s horse called Abusive, by Sugar Apple. Warren trained Rongonui, 3 time winner of the Winter Cup, son of Laurie Collett.
  18. This was the first time the transfer option was used , probably lots to be learned from it, but let’s not keep canning the all weather track. You have a right to decide where and when you want to run your horse, Tauranga was not a viable option due to the rain and a track that was not going to be suitable to race on going by the weather forecast for Friday and Saturday. The decision was made, well done to NZTR for making an early announcement, caterers, staff all sorts had to change their schedule to accomodate the change, even the weather changed, but Tauranga was still going to be bottomless, and maybe not fit for racing. The meeting was held, a lot scratched without giving their horses the chance to see if they could handle it, you will never know if you don’t try them on it. I for one think the right decision was made, and no I didn’t have a runner in the original Tauranga fields. I find the programming an issue, so many maiden races each meeting which is great, but bugger all R 60/65 to take up the slack for the horses that have left maidens to progress to the meetings that are being held on a two week in between basis….no logic there!
  19. Numerous horses who have never seen or worked on the track come to Cambridge and win on it, you will never know if you don’t give them a chance.
  20. Not a lot of thought went into knocking out TeTeko, great summer track, and a good fill in Winter and Spring track, sad to see it go. Might be old fashioned, but Gisborne and Wairoa had their place too…..
  21. No racing for TeAroha in June or July!
  22. At least they will run them, TeAroha might need to forget about Racing until the Spring, and get a few people in their that have a bit of track nous. A little bit of uncertainty on the safety issue side of things rears its head, and they won’t get jocks to ride. Bite the bullet guys and get the course managers in that have overseen tracks for their living.
