There you go, 2 winners for SE yesterday in AUS, metropolitan meetings, not bush. Hard to win anywhere, but to win metro Oz is hard, damn hard, so plaudits to Hallmark and look forward to Lisdoonvarna running next over here as her record is outstanding. If they'e not pushed as 2yo's it shows what can transpire.

Kirrama wrote about 17 new sires for 2017.  Go back thirty years there were 41 new sires in the 1987 breeding season.  Some of the luminaries (sarc) were  Half Century, Happy Melody, High Ice, Jigg's Alarm, Keitel, Lucky Ring, Minstrel Blues, Northerly Native, Pin Puller, Royal Loch, Shannon, Shifnal Prince, Silver Prospector, Space Appeal, Trubisc, Voyager, Wham, Young Runaway, Archimedes, Blazing Keel, Blue Razor, Concert Dancer, Conquistarose, Defecting Dancer,  Destroyer and  Exattic.
If you can recall all of them then your time is misspent.

Check your facts, I posted on 11th June, the horse had won at Randwick [inner track called Kensington] by nearly 4 lengths......that's stressing them, on that track....he wins again today at Rosehill, up in company and on a track that still did not favour him, he is a very smart horse, so that's why I'm praising the stallion that is very very underrated. They go super over here in Oz, I wonder why?

After a hiccup last start on a very heavy track, Easy Eddie did it again today at Rosehill.  Not such a good ride on Lisdoonvarna in an earlier race....and a couple of placings in NZ.   Not the worst stallion around....

John Cleese? The hotel guy from back in the day? Jeeze he's a talent alright.
Agree re: Tom Wood. Thought he never got the credit he deserved here, bit underrated. Almost like the racing board have their favorites.
Reon, greg miles, mark mac and T Lee waaaaaaay too good for mine. Especially when T Lee does the waaaay too good at the end of a race. They were/are never 100% perfect all of the time, but like their dulcet tones, easy to listen to and paint an accurate picture of the race.

    Dear Mr Mayor
    by Guest Post
    Date: 6 July 2018
To: Mayor Phil Goff phil.goff@aucklandcouncil. govt.nz
    Subject: Free Speech
    Dear Mr Mayor,
You appear to have fallen into line with those of the global movement whose thought processes don’t allow free speech unless the person speaking is articulating subject matter they agree with. They only become vociferous if the speaker is from the right of the political spectrum. This, of course, puts them firmly on the left.
In coming to your decision did it remotely occur to you that the threatened civil disobedience, which incidentally I call disturbing the peace for which I understand a person can be arrested, should not be tolerated.
Society is on a very slippery slope and democracy is under threat if people are unable to choose how they might spend their leisure time. You might not wish to attend the function. That is your right. I did not wish to see Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama but I will defend to the death the right of those who wish to go to be able to do just that.

It’s not a matter of comparing apples with apples, it’s the basic principle of a person’s right to be able to choose what they wish to do.
This is of such importance in a democratic society that it is not too strong a point to make that our men and others went to war to ensure this would remain the case. It is a sad day for this city when we appear to have a Mayor who caves at the first sign of trouble. You have taken the side of a group who are purely activists from your side of the political fence. You have therefore also risked showing your political bias which is unbecoming of someone in your position.
The correct handling of this matter would be to alert the Police to be in attendance and arrest anyone who breaks the law. There is nothing wrong with a peaceful protest and they should be allowed to voice their opinion. They call themselves peaceful so one would not expect them to cause trouble. I say that with a little dubiousness, however. One thing’s for sure, trouble won’t be caused by those going to the event.
    Remember what Winston Churchill said:
Many people think your decision is just that, an outrage.
    Kind regards,
    John [redacted]

Gutless Goff enforces the hecklers’ veto
    by John Black    Too right!

Auckland Mayor and enforcer of the Hecklers Veto, Phil ‘Gutless’ Goff
By now most will know that the planned talk by free thinkers Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux has been binned due to our chinless wonder of a mayor, Phil ‘Gutless’ Goff. He has caved to an (un)holy alliance of the New Zealand Federation of Islam Associations and Auckland Peace Action, the latter distinguishing themselves by being a peace group that threatens violence. Quote:
Isn’t that like a group of vegetarians holding a sausage sizzle?
Well, it seems to have worked, with the Bruce Mason Centre cancelling due to ‘health and safety concerns’, which is a nice euphemism for the possibility of a mob of lefties descending on their patrons. Since then Gutless Goff has banned promoters from using any alternative council venue.

The Gutless one is concerned that a twenty-three-year-old blonde and a bald guy speaking to 1,000 people (if sold out) will inflame the streets of Auckland with racial and religious strife, claiming they will “stir up ethnic or religious tensions.” This betrays, at once, an astoundingly low opinion of the Auckland citizenry and a high opinion of the persuasive powers of Southern and Molyneux. Their actual views, available to all on YouTube, are far from the nightmare of fringe hate speech Goff imagines. Look them up for yourself. Of course, they are both harshly critical of the Islamic belief system.
And that’s what’s done them in.
Goff has come under pressure from the New Zealand Federation of Islam Associations headed by a Mr Hazim Arafeh. Mr Arafeh, an immigrant, seems not to understand a fundamental value of his adopted home. As he told RNZ: Quote.
“I don’t think insulting Muslims comes under free speech, that’s an abuse of freedom of speech.” End quote.
No, it isn’t, Mr Arafeh, no it isn’t. In fact, it’s nearer to the definition of free speech.
The right to say what others don’t want to hear.
In giving in to the arrogance of Mr Arafeh, Gutless Goff has chosen to privilege Islamic beliefs over the belief in free speech deeply embedded in New Zealand culture – a birthright of our British colonial past.
It’s the freedom that underpins all others. It’s the hallmark of our adversarial legal and political systems, our free press and even our irreverent sense of humour. Many New Zealanders feel as attached to this heritage as Mr Arafeh does to his religion.
Unfortunately, Gutless Goff is not alone.
All over the west, pusillanimous panjandrums are sacrificing our glorious heritage of freedom on the altar of ‘tolerance’ and ‘inclusivity’. They are the true exemplars of the multiculturalist conceit – that all values being equally valid makes none worth protecting.
I hope you’ll join me in saying a hearty ‘Mohammed’s balls’ to all of that.
In the face of protests from the Islamic community and veiled threats from violent peaceniks here’s what a leader worth the name would have said: Quote.
‘I understand that Mr Molyneux and Miss Southern hold controversial views offensive to some. But what is more offensive is the idea of banning someone for speaking their mind. If you interfere with their doing so, they will be protected by the full force of the law.’ End of quote.
And what should such a leader have done with Mr Arafeh, if he continued his demands for special treatment?
Given him directions to the airport.

Not just a Belmont, a triple crown, the second in four decades. I agree. Take a bow Michael Wallace. I think the thread initiator knows enough about the game to be able to say what he did. It's a  tough gig and this kind of result might be lucky, but is rare indeed and a magnificent accomplishment.

Memories , memories . Loving reading the above posts , never missed a raceday at Trentham thru the seventies , even midweek in July when i was still at college . Would get buses then trains if me or mate couldn't convince a parent to take us over from Titahi Bay . Three days of absolute bog racing most of the time with 9 race cards and mostly full fields with heaps of jumping races . You couldn,t move in the public stand , if it was raining you would struggle to get a seat or keep it if you went to bet or toilet . When i talk  to younger racing enthusiasts (jocks , track riders or young stable staff and trainers ) about what racing used to be like and about how Trentham in July used to be 3 days and horses would race all 3 days and win they honestly think i'm bullshitting . Remember plenty of great wet trackers racing there   , Greek Meer definatly was one but one of my all time fav's was Rising Damp . But i'm getting all misty eyed now , oh the great old days , we will never see the likes again .

Brilliant. Wonder what the peno reading was? Those were the days when men were men. Nowadays one is not quite sure .
Went to Trentham a few times in the 60s when it was like that. No one arched up. Not sure if there was any track bias tho. Didn't care. Won more regularly then than now so I was happy.

Ah, but there are dreamers, and Walter Mitty's, and then there are those that live the dream, having been to Arrowfield, having been to July Cup and seeing the dream Alverta took them on, I would say The Messara's are living the dream. I would rather have Mr Messara as my boss a long way in front of the mob at Petone, and in some way I bet you would too.
