  1. Great work Ferdies...just building into our work nicely at this point...let's keep it up! Had a reasonable day yesterday - couldn't even pick a loser in that 'other' comp and consequently have one less thing to worry about now!!! Ha Ha!

  6. Certainly an amazing sprinter alright!! His story and that of his trainer almost the stuff of fairytales...
  7. Hills did the same dumb thing on The Filly - just after watching Vinnie win the previous by sticking to the rails! It was so obvious George commented on it being the difference being winning and coming 2nd. Dragonkeeper beaten by horse that stayed inside as well....

  10. Cheers Von Cettes- yep she was a good contest today, I pulled the wrong rein a couple of times in Aussie so well done to you. By the way, I remember Von Cettes racing quite well. Mark McCrossan used to ride him quite regularly [?] from memory and I also seem to recall he had a huge finish, but I seem to remember him running several 4ths in big races???
  11. A juicy quinella at the last fence - POLEAXED at the line by a perfect 'Upper Cut!!!!! '
  12. Thanks to Cubes and N1mue who alerted me to the fact that I should have re-read the rules for this comp. My amended lay is 4 Harvest the Gold R1 Manawatu
  13. Rosehill R 3: 1 Eisenhower. scratching sub: Danchai at Ipswich in the Cup.

  15. LOVE that shot you put up of him and Gary at Ellerslie. What a magnificent animal he was!!
  16. Amen to all that! What a wonderful, CHAMPION horse. I was riding work at Takanini for most of his career and well remember Big Red from those days. Adrian Burns used to ride him in a lot of his regular work and I remember him often working up the straight with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. [ Bonecrusher that is - not Adrian! ] Always reminded me of Phar Lap, [ not that I ever saw HIM!] but because he was built a bit like him - big raw-boned sort of a horse as I remember him. After sustaining a nasty head injury early in his career, I think Gary 'Chopper' Stewart was only interested in being a jockey while 'Big Red' was around and can't say I blame him for that - what a freakish horse to be associated with! I remember watching him on course, when he won the Air New Zealand Stakes and that win brought tears to my eyes and sent chills down my spine. He was probably the gutsiest, most determined horse I have seen. Carolyn Pomare [nee Condie at the time] who used to work for Frank, told me that he earned his name during the breaking-in process! That grit and fierce determination were seen so clearly in many of his wins - but particularly in that special Cox Plate of 1986!! Gone - but never forgotten Champ!
  17. Why do I never learn!!! Original picks... 1, 11 [5] Final picks... 5,11 [1] !!!! !!
  18. Sorry - probably doesn't matter; I just noticed I have the wrong sub in R6 should be 3 - not 4.
  19. R1: 7,9 [8] R2: 6,10 [4] R3: 7,9 [2] R4: 5,11 [1] R5: 4,7 [2] B/B R6: 11,17 [4] B/B R7: 2,8 [11] R8: 1,18 [7] R9: 8,17 [3] R10: 1,4 [3] Great days racing ahead! Go the Ferdies and a 'wee smidgeon' of luck to you Memphis!! Nah, on 2nd thoughts....you don't need it!
  20. I think Trackside could have some content on about it - instead of reviews of the Telegraph meeting six months ago!!! [see other thread from Berri... ]
  21. Getting Closer was a NZ -Bred by Long Row, I believe.
  22. Clearly one word too many in that short sentence....at the very least, a contradiction in terms.
