  1. Yes indeed! I wonder how many studs have donethat in Australasia??
  2. At the top is always a good time to get out! With Zabeel in the twilight of his career I know if I was Sir P and had accomplished all he has in the game, I'd be thinking hard about finding a Gerry Harvey or a Coolmore to buy me out too...

  6. And a great name if I may say! You could imagine a Champion called that....
  7. Sorry - I just read that again and realised that I left the field stranded at the furlong pole! Of course, it should have read the previous 2600m time of 2:42 was far more telling.... And yes, I agree - on the face of it our "prime" staying talent was 'weighed and found to be badly wanting"...
  8. Freda - point taken - but the last 600 time was more than sound - the previous 2400m time of 2:42 was far more telling! 3:18 was a very respectable time around Ellerslie and one of the quicker Auckland Cups in recent years from my memory. I don't recall too many going under 3:20 in recent times. Can anyone confirm that...??
  9. Disagree she would only be "making up the numbers" Frankie. This filly is the goods: it IS a very tough call to consider beating the Ozzies at their own game but she would not disgrace us - have a go Sam Kelt!
  10. Haven't got another opportunity before the weekend so have to post early... Crown Guineas: 1 Denman 4 Linton 9 Set For Fame Ranwick Guineas: 2 Monton 4 Shoot Out 13 Zabrasive Australian Cup 4 Sirmione 6 Littorio 13 Zarita
  11. Yeah, struck me as strange too mate - I couldn't have him. And then I thought of a horse I rode work occasionally which Trev & Sticko trained, called Flying Luskin; he was by a Slipper winner called Luskin Star. He missed winning both the Auckland and Wellington Cups in the same year by approximately 2cm!!!! The rules of breeding are not 'set in stone' it seems!!!
  12. Ah Prop - you brought back some memories there!! I used to have a picture on my bedroom wall as a young bloke torn out of a 'Racetrack' magazine with a shot of a magnificent black horse on it. I even copied it once and did a nice pencil sketch of it. Dalrello! What a magnificent looking horse he was! By Aloe and bred in Queensland. B Steyn used to ride him a lot but from memory the shot I had of him Johnny Marshall was riding him I think. Or maybe it was Johnny Duggan...anyway, sounds like it was a similar sort of downpour aye. I guess it was the amount of hail and ice which really made it a bit unique on Saturday- particularly in summer.
  13. And what if he did 'moon' the crowd - would that be acceptable too because he was just doing his own thing??? The 250m tongue-wagging was a premeditated 'stuff you' to all those watching. That's why he pointed to it to make sure no-one missed it this time] A 'stuff all of you' mentality NEVER helps anyone in this life and it's that attitude that grates me as much as anything and which will continue to see Michael struggle with things off a horse back. I have no problem with jockeys celebrating - I have posted several times in defence of jockeys giving decent salutes before the post - but I found this last episode completely over the top and frankly a bit disgusting. I enjoyed his obvious emotion/joy and his little dance routine was great - and as I said earlier, his affection for the horse was exemplary and very heartening to see. Anyway, I wish him all the best - at best he's a great little rider and very talented and we certainly can do with riders of his calibre. But we can do without this ridiculous tongue-poking nonsense.
  14. If I was his manager I'd offer to let him have his precious little pony-tail back - if he promised to keep his flapping tongue in his head! It could cause an accident one day - imagine copping a slap of that ugly thing across your goggles two strides past the post.... Nice to see some genuine affection for the horse after his big win - I DID like that.
  15. Has anyone seen scenes like we saw at Flemington today in the last 50 years????? Plain unbelievable!!! Complete cloudburst overhead, waterfalls off the stand rooves, hail stones piled 3 feet high against the fences ... never seen anything quite like it!
  16. Newmarket 1 All Silent 5 Light Fantastic 3 Nicconi [scr 6] Guineas 1 Denman 4 Linton 9 Set For Fame [scr 2 ] Australian Cup 4 Sirmione 6 Littorio 13 Zarita [scr 5] What a days racing aye!
  17. This is my absolute pet hate in racing!! After 180 race rides the poor guy cracks a winner and they expect him to keep a straight face! Killjoys indeed.
  18. Ticklish IS the NZ record holder for 1,000m at 54 and change Kevin!! [set at Riccarton] However, I would love to see Coup Align have a real crack at the record one day - I'm sure he would give it a serious nudge.
