Fernlea25 got a reaction from Catalano in Crashed again
You cannot grow your revenue if you continue to sh*t the bed on the big days.

If the allegations are true,I have far more empathy for the thousands of punters who have been taken for mugs. They had an expectation of fair play. It appears they may have been treated like faceless fools. I guess its easier if you can't identify with who it is you are taking for a ride.. Is that how the support of those who help put food on industry participants tables is repaid..
I originally had sympathy for those involved and the self made situation they found themselves in, however the blinkered support they get from many on here, who only see it from those charged points of view, just polarizes and hardens each differing point of view.

It's bloody amazing alright as to the number of industry people who are just brushing the matter aside and going into bat for those who are before court.
Brings to mind the ageless old say.
It's only a rort if your not involved

In an age of Betfair and being able to 'lay' horses, the ability to cheat for financial gain is far more possible without needing a large number of co-conspirators.

I agree. Even coming around the home bend, he seemed intent on allowing every runner inside him to flush him wider and wider - not even to mention the early and middle stages of the race.
I've never been much of a fan of the two-day meetings. Seem to have to be 'in the know' for which horses are just there for a look on day one.

Personally I thought It was hard to believe a driver of Andersons ability could drive it so poorly. After reviewing the replay I concluded he wasrt trying. I know someone who had a good bet on it who thought the same..The trackside presenter described it as an unbelievable, just unbelievable drive. It was the subject of a thread on one of the harness chat sites(,not started by me)

Clearly the police investigation has upset the supporters of some of the high profile players. So often these supporters seem to live in a bubble, immune or deaf to the standards the great majority expect and want.
At one point you refer to behavior " that has long been done ,playing silly buggers at some low grade harness meeting' yet you infer the police investigation is a bad thing.
Going on your previous posts on certain subjects, i'm guessing this investigation has come too close to home to those you support.. Whatever the final outcome is,i hope everyone reading racecafe notes the attitudes of many of those who participate in this sport,it really is an eye opener.

Granting of name supression in these types of cases is damaging in my opinion as it allows rumour and speculation to cast mud on a much wider range of people than should be.

Evidence will be presented to the contrary of your opinion obviously. Drivers aren't exactly going to wear a sign on their chest saying " i'm fixing this race" are they although the Nelson drive was cynical at best. The cops will have evidence of collusion and the defence will attempt to explain the evidence away with whatever rebuttals they believe are correct.. time will tell. It's also worth noting that the drivers of a couple of races in question aren't not being charged to my knowledge so would not have known of the actions between other parties...

Anyone driving / training would be crazy to do anything but try their very best right now with the spotlight shining so bright. The best time in a long time to have a punt in confidence that you'll get a fair run for your money!

I just hope that, whatever the outcome, the authorities move swiftly and provide as much accurate and timely information as possible to the public (without prejudicing the accused who have a right to innocence until proven guilty), so that rumour and conjecture does not burden those who have done no wrong.
I would also hope that even those with personal relationships with the accused, are able to recognise objectively that if the charges laid are substantiated and proven, appropriate punishments are paramount to give the sport a chance at continuing and reestablishing itself to its former glory.

If there is strong evidence to substantiate the allegations, and serious jail time on the line, it'll be interesting to see how quickly someone flips for a more lenient punishment (and then just how many are implicated as a result).

Have to assume they have some form of information - texts, phone call etc which suggested that a fix was on for that race. I doubt it would be based on the video alone.

Breakfast Creek Hotel, I believe, is right across the road from Albion Park where there's harness or dog racing most days of the week, and pretty close to Brisbane city. It's not exactly a 'bush pub'.
The rule may be a joke, but it's a rule nonetheless and until it changes, these folks need to wise up and abide by it.

I'm holidaying in Australia and walked into the local TAB to watch the 4 races... you could bet on them but the races weren't televised here which was very disappointing.

Fernlea25 reacted to Jape in Edith Kern RIP
It came to my notice that a past greyhound trainer, Edith Kern, had died recently.
Edith became well known through the deeds of her very good greyhound, McKern, who was a son of Wendy's Legend x Pandalola. McKern was beaten a nose by another very smart dog in Cool Tee Jay in a Wellington Cup and Edith also campaigned McKern in Australia.
Later Edith joined forces with Owen Marron and this was a formidable combination, enjoying considerable success particularly at Hutt Park, on the grass track at Palmerston North, and at the Solway racecourse. Indeed, for a time, Masterton was very much the centre of greyhound racing in the Central Districts.
As the tracks mentioned came to be closed down, or reconstructed in the case of Palmy, so the Kern/Marron names came to be seen less often among the trainers' lists until they slipped out of the greyhound game completely.
Edith Kern was an admirable member of the greyhound community and will be well remembered by those who were also part of the sport at that same time.

Fernlea25 got a reaction from BackPoonDrinkGoon in Grant Dixon Suspended and Fined
His partner, Trista, has been disqualified for 12 months recently after being judged to have pulled her horse to the inside to give clear running to another runner in a feature race at Albion Park.
Many big names in QLD falling at present - seems the authorities are finally taking a strong stance.

It's a nice thought Yankiwi, but the Stipes have a hard enough time identifying and taking appropriate action against non-chasers before the line let alone after it!!

Fernlea25 got a reaction from hedley in NZ TAB acting like Corporate Cowboys
A very odd response from the Commerce Commission.
The Commerce Commission's job is to ensure competition is enabled in all industries - even if the TAB is a private company, what difference does that make? Private companies are regularly scrutinised by the Commerce Commission for anti-competitive behaviour. Being private doesn't give you the right to conduct your business in an anti-competitive manner.
It sounds like a politically motivated response to me... i.e. we're under instruction not to investigate or entertain investigating SOE's.

Fernlea25 reacted to lecithin in NZ TAB acting like Corporate Cowboys
Yes I'm sure any company taken to court by the commerce commission would like a copy of the letter. It would provide a good defence, "sorry I'm running a private company and as you have stated I can run it how I see fit so to hell with any consumer law I'll do what I like"
