Great win in Perth - but he needs to go see a putting guru! Putting wins tournaments and he can’t rely on his opponents missing. Also, he needs to get fitter if he wants to go with the best. JMHO. But good to watch him win the Perth event.

Don't remember who owned him, but ! Here's a great true story. My wife's Cousin (from Wanganui - or is that Whanganui these days?) went to a Stud in the Waikato to look at yearlings and at this particular stud, there were two colts roaming around. He was offered either of the two for I think what was 1000. He tossed a coin, heads the one on the left, tails the one on the right. Heads it was and he bought the Leftie. It didn't do any good. The other one was ? KIWI CAN ! Don't you just love racing stories like this?

Agree, the paying down to 14th imho, many may regard as a magicians trick. With average field being about 11, I dream of how much they are saving. However, if it is being applied elsewhere for “Stakes”, then I would be ok with that. But ultimately, everything with regards to $$$$ should always be 100% transparent to all stakeholders. 

I had a horse racing at Counties one day and the Trainer was giving the jockey instructions. He told him not to make his run until he reached about 250m out. The Jockey must have thought he was racing at Cranbourne or The Valley! He hit the lead at the top of the Counties straight and was beaten a nose trying to lead all the way up that long straight. I cannot repeat on here what the Trainer said to the Jockey after the race! 

If the main racing jurisdictions in Oz (viz, Qld , NSW and Vic 3%) all have deductions for Their Horse Welfare and Jockeys fund, why can’t NZ do it? Sure stakes are still a big concern but so is the welfare of horses and jockeys. 

I wouldn't under rate the horses that come to Castlepoint, need plenty of speed to win along the beach. 

One of the fastest 1000m courses in Australia is arguably Sandown. However, it wouldn’t matter how many fast 1000m races are won there, it wouldn’t have any bearing on a Lightning Stakes 1000m race at Flemington.

Stone of Folca the fastest thoroughbred in World according to Guinness Book of Records , 53.69 five furlongs (1006ish metres )  at Epsom , two races later he got four pounds off Ortensia at Goodwood and couldn't get within five lengths of her . God knows what a top OZ sprinter would  clock at Epsom on a good day . Stone of Folca only ever won  two races .
