Has any breeding bonuses been attached to any horses you have bred?

I was looking through NZ bred horses placed yesterday and I saw Baltimore Jill  (Auckland Reactor )have none  but has been placed several times since August .  Paige (One Over The Moon) has $2500+ in  NZ bred bonuses and $2000 in fillies and mare bonuses.  Something is not right with Baltimore Jill's  info or eligibility?

Probably because the breeder no longer exists so nobody to pay the bonus to

Yes Ohokaman, picnic meetings in the North should have been  regarded a must, not a nice-to-have. Pirongia on Boxing Day and Tauranga on Anniversary weekend used to be major crowd pullers year after year. Both canned for different reasons. Having lost all the associated sponsors and community memory they would be hard but not impossible to reboot if there was a group of enthusiasts at Cambridge willing to do so.

Best meeting to take the kids to back in the day was at Parawai Racecourse (Thames) at Xmas time - nothing compared to the picnic atmosphere there!  Very similar to the Omakau meeting down South.

Sad to see the disappearance of what used to be a grand time of racing in the Northern NI.  The crowds that used to come to watch good fields of the best of the best trotters and pacers racing at Auckland and Cambridge on the warm summer evenings. The families at multiple picnic meetings. Nowadays the general public up here is barely aware harness racing exists (except for the bad press). Where are our future NI punters and owners going to come from? More importantly, with the bulk of the NZ population living in the NI, we need racing and good exposure up here to maintain our social licence to operate throughout the country. There is no single quick fix, but we just can't continue as we are if we want a future.

Yep - was sad watching only 8 races at Cambridge Xmas Eve .... if memory serves correct, even with the inclusion of the grass tracks in the old days Xmas Eve attracted good fields and a full programme.  Has the deletion of the summer grass meetings been the catalyst for the lack of horse numbers in the North?

Seems strange there are only 5 noms for the G1 C&G race.  Anyone with a handy 2 year old could be in with a good chance of getting some of the money with the top few colts & geldings in the spelling paddock.   Would be a good race to target next season perhaps even if your horse isn’t in the top 2 or 3

I think I read somewhere that many are spelling in preparation for the early season 3yo races

Well Aussies can drive here and we have had Tim Tetrik and I think a European driver drive here.  Do they need to be licensed here if they are licensed in another country?

    Fair point

A 2013 paper found 16% of horses had life-threatening arrhythmia immediately after racing, most common in those parked at the half mile. The genetic predisposition study was published in 2018.

Don't pass stats like that onto SAFE or harness will be the next target after rodeo and the hounds!

Trainers here in Sydney range from $2000 to $2200 all inclusive

Some Victorian trainers are the same

My friend has a share in a horse in NZ and his bills are almost double

Tell them to advertise over here - they'd likely get some more to train at the moment!

Janitor you can't be serious. Omakau in the middle of nowhere, dusty poor facilities track miles from the people. Westport on other hand grass good track Father Reedy has good whisky and sister Rogers puts on a good feed. No comparison😉

Boy how things have changed....for the worst IMO

    and you get 3 days.

Three days in the central circuit as well - Omakau / Roxburgh / Wyndham (grass at Cromwell)

Omakau had a huge crowd last year despite being "miles from the people" and I'm told it always does

FAST ACE - checked by a breaking runner late in the score up losing all chance. Authorization of placings was withheld until Stewards had reviewed the film of the start with the gelding being declared a non runner by Stewards under Rule 213(1)(j).

It was obvious to one and all that the horse had been interfered with and even the driver had his hand held in the air to let the starter know, but the starter failed to see it.

Yes it was a late scratching so the punters don't miss out but the connections of the horse still have to pay all associated fees and yet there is not even a mention of a warning let alone a fine for the starters incompetence

The owners should still get the "also ran" fee but they don't when the horse is late scratched - the punters get looked after but the owners don't, which is unfair imho
