  1. Alf, Your still looking at a couple of million for the architect even for this.
  2. By the time they build a new grandstand, put in lights etc I’m not convinced there would be a lot left over from the sale of Alexandra Park. They would probably spend a few million on architects & council consents before any construction got underway.
  3. When Idolmite posted about this I thought it would potentially be a life saver for the club but reading the article it appears that they got the money for this 3 years ago. Imagine where the club would be now if they had just sold their land to developers instead of trying to do the development themselves. No $100m loss & potentially total land sales approaching $100m. It would make you cry. The old stand hasn’t been used for years so at least it’s good to see it being demolished.
  4. Thanks Idolmite. Unfortunately I can’t read the whole article as I think you need to be a subscriber to read it. It would be interesting to know how much they got for the land or what deal they have done . Hopefully it gets them into the black.
  5. Drivers & Jockey challenges tie up money all day & futures betting can tie up money for weeks on end. So it’s not like the TAB are against all bets that tie up money. I think a jackpot type bet would bring in money we are missing out on now. Perhaps not from non racing people but definitely from casual small punters.
  6. You are absolutely right CeeMeNow. So frustrating that those in power refuse to look at a jackpot type bet. As you say, the bigger the pools the more people get involved. We are constantly told we have to increase betting revenue & here is one solution staring us in the face & nobody in power will even discuss it.
  7. Is this just for Harness or has it gone for thoroughbreds as well?. Hopefully they will replace it with a pick 9 but I’m not hopeful
  8. That’s a good point. Perhaps mares that win over $150k in a 3 year period could forgo their bonus credits as they have won enough money to pay for a few stud fees and their progeny are going to be reasonably sort after. That would leave more money for the mares that have more moderate earnings.
  9. Cheaper fees would definitely encourage breeders especially if the top tier stallions were less expensive. On the flip side of that is that Bettors Delight was always expensive but served full books.
  10. In the short term they either need to attract significant numbers of horses from the South Island or limit meetings to one per week in the Auckland Cambridge area.
  11. Very true. Ideally that would be great but the problem is there may not be enough horses going around to make up those fields. Perhaps a better solution as you suggest is to apply the credit to all races. It would probably mean lowering the credit in each race but would involve a greater number of mares gaining credits which is what needs to happen.
  12. You make a lot of valid points Nelli but I’m not sure for me that $500 subsidy would encourage me to breed a mare. If I collect say $3k over a few years that would definitely incentivise me to get involved. Maybe HRNZ should look at making all trotting races eligible, I get that they have less F&M racers than the pacers.
  13. Just after the horses crossed the finishing line he deliberately forced Chilcott into the outside fence. Apparently annoyed that in the run home she didn’t shift ground to let his horse out of a pocket
  14. He did go down in my estimation after the Chilcott incident. That was a very bad look.
  15. Sorry to hear that. As the part owner of a race mare I like the idea of earning credits towards a stud fee when my mare places in a mares or fillies race. It will definitely encourage me to be involved in breeding from her when she retires. Only thing about the scheme is it will take a good few years to take effect.
  16. That doesn’t seem to tally with the article I read where the numbers served were down about 10%. Either way it’s disappointing
  17. In days gone bye a lot of farmers had 2 or 3 horses they bred themselves & sometimes trained. That’s not as common now. Most owners, especially the younger ones can only afford a small percentage in a horse. It’s great they’re in syndicates but we probably need 10 times as many owners than we did in the past to race the same amount of horses.
  18. Sad to hear that numbers have fallen by 10% again this season. I would have thought with the likes of Woodlands, Alabar, Breckon & Lincoln farms as well as others being active the numbers would have bottomed out by now. Will be interesting to see if the pacers have dropped by more than the trotters. I wonder if one of the problems is that to get a good price at the sales for pacers you need a yearling by one of only 3 or 4 stallions. Trotters seem to be more diverse in that regard.
  19. True, but a couple of races last night run in under 1.49
  20. Maybe they are better stayers than sprinters?. I thought anyone that could run Leap To Fame so close last start would be a good thing in the Chariots. Interesting that DSD was unable to run past Merlin after he sat parked. It goes to show Merlin is every bit as good as DSD.
  21. What’s the point in running it. Might as well just pay out DSD connections now.
  22. I thought Merlin’s run was huge. Reverse the run with BBTB & you reverse the result. The barrier draw will be crucial in the Chariots Don’t Stop Dreaming was awesome but he did get a sweet run. Couldn’t have gone any better though.
  23. I only got sky for track side so they will have got some extra subscribers by having it. Also get CNN & History channel on the same package which I quite enjoy. And there is always fake Fox News for people who don’t want to face reality.

    2YO Bonus

I know it’s academic but I notice the bonus isn’t added to a horses official stake earnings. Ukraine has effectively won $20,250 but his official stake earnings are $8,250.
