Yep took my two boys fishing off that wharf. Brilliant part of the country. was staying in Whatawhiwhi on the Kari Kari  peninsular and just after a big storm we picked scallops up by the hundreds on Tokerau Beach. On the BBQ with garlic cheese and wine , heaven. We nearly bought into an Olive grove set up back then right next to Tokerau Beach, with individual sections and trees. Wish we had of now. Matai Bay on the Northern side is great for catching Snapper off the beach, as long as the Maoris don't see you.

We somehow have ended up in the same position as the USA. If its Right then the rich get richer and the poor ,well !!!
The left , dark ages if the Greens manage a miracle with Mrs Personality.
NZ in 20 to 30 yrs will be 3rd World  either way.

Love your comments as regards the ATC but you are a bit unfair on Addington. They have also developed their land and developed alternative revenue streams as have the ATC. But their land is simply not worth as much & the ChCh economy is more flat as regards rental demand etc. ATC simply have more advantages being in the biggest population base.                            Agree with your comments as regards acceptance fees but ATC now doing the same for their group 1 races.  They both need to stop this stupidity.                          .  I think South will still remain centre of harness racing for some time yet as it has a larger base of people involved in the sport.

He will shuttle back and forwards as fresh chilled semen is so much better than frozen for most mares.

Pardon my ignorance on this topic , but presumably with the advent of AI , then much like some overseas sires e.g. Love You for instance,   we may see frozen semen filter back down here from him.?

You would think with the amount of money he has made for all concerned ,the owners would have been generous to Purdon . Considering the horse may not have climbed to the same heights under someone else's tutorlidge,  Mark Purdon deserves to be rewarded for bringing us arguably the best horse to stick its neck through a bridle since my days of Young Quinn. And that's saying something.

    Hi Col,
To put my two bobs worth in.
The general unkind feelings voiced on here when Christen Me left for the U.S.,  the owners were greedy, and should have given him a good home here instead of selling him. Playing Devils advocate then, should not the same apply to Lazarus? What has the horse got to prove? If a fast mile is required, why not time trial at Ashburton?
Just putting another view on things.
    Cheers.
    Robert.

Yeah I bypassed the corporates as well. My syndicate manager has stated that last time they paid the 200 bucks for a table, but the food was crap and didn't enjoy it at all.
My son in law has booked one through Nicky Chilcott, so I might be able to find a seat if the legs give out from jumping up and down trying to keep up with Iraklis
So looks like we are all winging it this time.

Correct. Three yrs ago it was bone chilling. But hey it didnt detract from the excitement. If you watch the replays there is a figure in blue jeans and a black leather jacket with a cap on standing opposite the finishing post on every race. Yep always the purist , it's me . Brilliant day despite the temperature.

    Hi John,
Agree with you, and hey, if it is too cold to run at Ashburton in June, how much warmer is it going to be 80km away in Christchurch?
I have been to 3 Jewels in Ashburton, and each time was able to stand on the galloping track and watch the action.
    Cheers.

Clubs running race meetings at alternative tracks is not uncommon.   Addington ran the interdominions at Alex Park from memory after the earthquakes, Rangiora and occasionally Timaru have run meetings at Addington.
If the Met were to hold the Jewels at Ashburton it would be a good compromise between the administrators who want certainty around competent organisation
and those of us who see mile racing and the carnival atmosphere as an integral part of the whole Jewels concept.   Ashburton is the best mile track in New Zealand by far.

Fartoomuch, thanks for that, it was great night out and some of the performances were summit else....
Globe, nah don't think so The Spur was low flyin headin in, actually once I got over me panic mo, I realised Enghein goin round and givin The Boy some cover gave him a breather, and a sit (where he's most dangerous, he loves to take that gap) when he hit the gap and kicked at top of the straight my mate was slappin me shoutin 'here he comes, here he comes, go go go go' right, like I couldn't see him, cheez I was black n blue yesterday walkin lopsided one shoulder decidedly lower than the other, ahh but it was worth it.....as for Winterfell, Globe he is summit else, put together real nice and he's effortless, be interesting to see if n when he is tested what could he do, fingers crossed for you guys tho hope your boy gets good draw in all for the Jewels, as much as I love the AllStars and their guns, I reckon us Northerners gotta start puttin up a fight, hey could start with your boy yup......

    Cheers Iraklis

Hey mate, glad to see yah fav bought you some excitement. I have to say though had Monty been in the trail and not 3 back we may have caught you. A perfect trip for him nonetheless and a delight to watch.
The Jewels will be interesting with MM. I think that Winterfell will have to cop a bad draw to be beaten to be honest. Louby Lou may start as well so we will be hoping for a good draw. We know he is a good stayer and still on the up, heres hoping we can stop the AS juggernaut.
    Miracles do happen.
