Who wants to race greyhounds these days?
Full of cheats and people turning blind eyes to things

Gary Sharp reacted to Jape in Vale: Ray Adcock
Sometimes you get to know people who you think will last forever. Someone who is always good for a yarn. Someone whose knowledge of a sport/industry is limitless.
Ray Adcock was one of those people.
When he celebrated his 87th birthday a short time ago, I expected Ray to be there for years to come, ready for another yarn. But that was not to be.
Even as Ray was reducing his hands-on involvement in greyhounds he was ensuring the future of people who had come into the "game" relatively recently. Whenever Ray and I met over these last few years we always had a chat about how he bought a couple of bitches at very modest cost which set up the remarkably successful partnership of Mrs Jose Arthur and Daniel Lane as co-owners with Ray's protege, Daniel, the trainer.
That is just one example of the legacy that the "master Raymond Harold Adcock" - as Peter Earley often referred to him as - has left. Over many, man years there would be so many who benefited from his knowledge. He will be sadly missed, indeed.
Farewell, good friend to me and my family.
Rest in Peace.

Gary Sharp got a reaction from THE TORCH in Vale: Ray Adcock
Very sorry to hear of the passing of one of the greatest trainers I have ever met. Ray Adcock passed away last night. R.I.P Ray it was an honor knowing you & being the starter when you had dogs racing in Cambridge & Auckland. -

Gary Sharp got a reaction from Grego in Vale - Gordon Wilson
Last Saturday, Gordon sadly lost his more than a year long battle with cancer. Our sincere condolences to his wife Margaret and family. His was long term involvement in our code as a widely respected owner, breeder and trainer. From his Dury based Jetsun kennels, he successfully bred and raced his Jetsun dogs at our northern venues, past and present for over three decades. A service to farewell Gordon will be held at the Fountain Funeral Chapel, Elliott Street, Papakura, on Wednesday 18th November at 2.00pm. -
Gary Sharp reacted to Emotive in Cole - Court case
But is it a positive for the sport? With racing in general on the decline in NZ what benefit did that effort provide? The hardcores will punt on anything variety not required, but there isn't enough of them to sustain racing. Just imagine the same happening in thoroughbreds? What makes racing appealing to the everyday punter is variety. The danger here is drop out. As trainer numbers decline the risk of racing cessation increases. One thing learned in my life time is this, when you're gone, few remember your name.

Gary Sharp reacted to pilli in RIP Steve Clark
Sad News broke today that highly respected Northern Trainer Steve Clark had passed away suddenly.
Steve had a lifetime association in The Greyhound Code, harking back to Kumeu Days during the 1970's.
After mixing his business career & greyhounds as hobby,The New Millennium saw Steve get serious & devote all his time to building up a strong Racing Team.
From his Dairy Flat Kennel, alongside partner Kathy,he tasted Group One success for the first time in time honoured Waterloo Cup 2008 with Magic Spike,They also combined to win NZ Shootout in same year
Steve enjoyed mass publicity due to deeds of star stayer Swift Fantasy,a dual Group One winner in Silver Collar 2010,and NZ Stayers Cup 2011.
A rare Group One Quinella followed in 2012 NZ Derby, with a litter he bred and reared seeing Grizz and Peking Tom starring.
Another home bred Blitzing Mayhem gave Steve his first NZ Cup victory in 2014,a celebration lasted long into the night next day at Sefton Arms.(thanks Steve)
Recent years saw a change in property and downsizing his team, but another quality hound gave Steve his second NZ Cup on mantelpiece with Pinny Mack in 2019.
Ironically,Pinny Mack was favourite today at Manukau In The Peter Earley Classic, his final race in a stellar broadcasting career. However, like Steve, his runners never made it to the start'.
Thanks Steve for the many trips to the races, and thrills galore helping with your runners on the track.
Condolences to your Daughters, Grandkids ,and Kathy.

Gary Sharp reacted to GOM in Stakes cut
Come on fella's be fair, remember there was a huge salary bill at HQ to maintain without any income while we have been in shutdown, the phlebs can put up with a bit more sacrifice for our hard working masters.

Gary Sharp reacted to GOM in Changes to the magazine
" We are currently running the magazine at a loss" No shit Sherlock, I thought the magazine was a vital service that all members need not a profit making venture.. It's not quite North and South stuff now is it. There is a captive audience who have no option but to get it. I wonder if the non profit started when some bright spark decided to go a glossy A4 that is all hat and no cattle.

Gary Sharp reacted to Jape in EGOMANIACAL
Is Egomaniacal the most under-rated greyhound in the country?
Congratulations to his young trainer for continuing to produce this dog in winning condition.
And, "speaking" of young trainers, what a record Daniel Lane is achieving. How far can Bolty go? We know how fast!!
And, while I am here, and referring to trainers, congratulations to Raymond Harold Adcock on being granted Life Membership of the CGRC at its AGM on Wednesday night this week.

Gary Sharp got a reaction from MiniJax in How
Sorry didn't think about Craik last night as my brain was half asleep but yes you are right I should have added them to both lists.
I do agree with you Bus that all the trainers up here no matter how big or small they are do a very good job with looking after their dogs & if I was to get any more when I can afford it I'd have no problems getting any of them to train them for me.
An other name I forgot to add to the younger generation list is Codlin. Even tho he is a small trainer with only a few dogs he's doing well with them.

Gary Sharp reacted to GOM in New Season
Gary with the annoucement today that studies have found that pets of smokers have higher rates of cancer that those of non smokers it is almot a given that there will be a name and shame of smoker trainers.

Gary Sharp reacted to bus stop in How
Gary you need to take into account when making comments of who the top northern trainers are the likes of the class of dog they have access to either dogs that are bought by owners who can afford to out lay the dollars or have the breeding set up to produce litters which gives them a better chance of getting good dogs to train. There are a number of trainers in the north who I view do a excellent job with the type of dog they race. Keeping in mind that a number of them are racing 2nd tier dogs from the 2 biggest breeders in NZ. Gary cant undersatnd how you left the Craiks off your list they have been one if not one of the best trainers in the North for the last 30 odd years.
Anyway Gary I fear for the future of the northern region as there are not enough the younger generation taking it on the costs of land etc to set up is just to much and the money is not there to meet comitments.
Also the board are making far reaching decesions which will come back and bite them in the ass i.e. import fees which I feel they are being leaned on by outside influences.
