whats the point of getting a new one when the current one's aren't maintained properly. they have had months to sort this issue out and still have done nothing. had less meetings abandoned on grass tracks
when will Danny Dee get a box that isn't 1, 2, or 3? 18 starts with 7 box 1s, 2 box 2 and a box 3. Nearly everytime he draws outside of the 3, he's beaten but that doesn't happen very often now does it. Especially at Cambridge.
You will find for every dog that cant get a good box, there's another that cant get a bad box (Its just a shame that normally, the dog that gets the good boxes wants outside lol).
You will find that both vets in the cd tend to not go over 28 days for a stand down. If the injury is serious enough. They know the trainer will be responsible and not race their dog
Have to agree with flagship on this one. All 3 of these dogs will miss out on auckland cup/railway heats aswell and allegro gun would have a winning chance in either of these races. So id say the injury was serious
And who wants to punt on 8 heats full of c1 billy goats?? Not to mention the fact that only three trainers will most likely dominate these races.
You only have to look at the success of nzbred races to see this. The only breeders you see travel for these sizable races are cole, wales and sometimes walsh and they would win 90% of the breeders stakes.
Also the home bred dogs do not have to worry about imports for these races so why does no one else travel for them? There already are incentives for nz bred dogs. The only problem is 90% of trainers ignore these completley.
I for one enjoy watching a competitive c5 race compared to a boring c1 race which is the norm for nz breeders in general. Making group races nz bred only narrows the pie of whom is winning stakes
without the Aussie dogs in the heats on Friday night, there would be 4 dogs for the Hatrick classic final. Not even enough to hold a race.
One could argue that importing may be better than allowing people to breed 100s of dogs per year to get 10 dogs that can run. a lot less wastage that's for sure. Without the Aussie dogs in these races, there would be no competition at all. And I am sure people love to punt on races where there is no competition between dogs
You stop imports racing in group races and you will be lucky to get two heats lol. The only successful breeders who breed group dogs consistantly in nz tend to be the ones breeding in mass numbers (there are one or two others who breed group dogs consistantly aswell) so if you did this. More people would probably start whining how unfare it is. All you would see is 8 dog fields full of bigtime dogs and the odd thrilling and opawa.
As long as they are not being used to stir dogs up (which they arent obviously). Should be fine. After the whole cole saga. Do not be surprised if the nzgra follow nsw did by banning the ownership of small animals on greyhound properties
Watching wheelchair norm today and see he has now won 82 races. I know little mother won 85. I was wondering if anyone knew what the record for the most race wins in NZ was. this would have to be close to it wouldnt it?
1) Straight track racing has just as many injuries as circle tracks.
2) Evidence suggests that 6 dog fields can have as much trouble as 8 dog fields (Just look at how rough some races are in the UK).
Idt the numbers sent here are easing the pressure in Australia. I did say limit the imports as well as the breeding. The current breeding regimes in NZ is unsustainable.
The only way, in my opinion, to clean up the industry is by putting a limit on how many dogs are breed a year in NZ, how many dogs each person can breed, how many dogs are imported and how many dogs each trainer can race in NZ. Its clear GAP cannot rehome every greyhound racing in NZ (and that is no insult to gap. I just can't see how they can rehome an extra 1500 greyhounds a year). So if you cant put much more pressure on GAP, than you must look at ways to lower the number of dogs being breed. They already have similar rules in several states in Australia so I cant see why we cant follow suit. I'm sure it won't harm the industry cutting back on races as well.
Better to be proactive and wrong instead of doing nothing and hes convicted imo. Grv and grnsw took this approach and it saved the greyhound industry in both states. I dont even believe most of the trainers were charged in australia in the end. They still all lost their licenses
