Steve. There is a meeting on the 1st of May. Detail will follow before the take over comes into effect. Let them get the detail sorted.
There may well be a transport system established. Will there still be an entrance fee charged? As yet we don't know.
I think having one team assessing all dogs is good. It will eliminate issues that have arisen in the past.
Also allowing more time to settle and assess will help reduce the number of possible fails.
Bringing in more re-homing partners will reduce waiting lists and allow each dog to be fitted to the right agency for re-homing.
Each agency has their own criteria, they are not all the same.
There are many more positives to the restructure than negatives.
We all have the ability to put relevant questions and suggestions to the re-homing committee.

Waste of time and will only slow down the process more

GOM, I don't actually know what the comparative numbers are, and I don't know what percentage of trainers travel in the south. The reason I asked Jape. What I do know is that each region has their own issues. The north has had some difficulty filling fields, example Waikato carding less than 12 races, and not enough C5's to card a race. We have difficulty getting starts in several grades. This isn't about getting more than another region for me, it's about looking after the people who supply the product in those regions.  All the people, including you guys in the north. I would support any initiatives that do just that. It is due to everyone's efforts that the NZRB make a profit. Successful business models look after their employees.

Common sense is something clubs lack.

I would have to disagree there. if you had a dog who run the hands of the clock you would enter!!!! so you are saying Fahey's dog who run 29.90 ish  in a maiden race and now is a C1 should not have bothered entering the oaks?

If she makes the final. She wont have any chance

If there is one issue that needs looking at within the industry it is how the NZ series rewards participants. Firstly think of what the purpose of the series is and how it actually works. Presumably the purpose is to support the NZ breeding industry and thus ensure the industry becomes robust enough to stand on it's own without having to resort to importing greyhounds . This makes sense as the sudden downturn in Aus. breeding has proven.

How is it actually working? I do not have actual figures but my guess is most of the money put forward for the series is shared within say six major players. It is not unusual to see the same kennels chase the NZ series through all the regions  and thus only a small amount of participants are rewarded. There is some merit in that but surely the intention was to promote and encourage people to breed dogs not just support and enable the bigger kennels to dominate.

A far fairer and productive system was the old one where every NZ bred winner got a bonus. The big Kennels of course would still get the lions share but near every participant would have a chance every meeting. Maybe not exact the same as it was before but a system that gives all NZ breeders a realistic chance.

The second point is the present system virtually excludes some dogs from having any kind of chance. Take the novice series where a maiden having it's first start may have to compete with a dog that has won over twenty races and say $80,000. That is crazy. Have a look at the all of the series races and see how many maidens actually get a go at it. The novice races are full of the stagnating class one dogs. Same applies to a lesser degree in c1& 2.

Do they still have the bonuses for dogs winning their first middle distance race? Maybe they could do this with every grade. Give small bonuses to nz bred dogs over the middle distance

It was a absolute crap race. but well done to Mr Adcock  , id give it 50-1 to win solver collar

It was a better field than 99% of distance races. Just look at the poor field at Wanganui tonight. Translator beats them for fun

Winding up, it was a clear second last week and faded to 4th, in a very average 645 field, this dog was a prolific group 1 winner and raced the best distance dogs in Australasia.

Now it is racing mediocre fields struggling to keep up

The leaders looked to be fading last week in a average field

Dog was second to the lure. Wanted more ground i thought. Looks like he has been rushed back for silver collar preparation

Really, give this dog the retirement it deserves. it is going backwards way before the 600 mark

It has had enough, it looks tired, might have to change its name to "Ring out the Rag" (get every last drip from it)

It is a  prolific winner over the extreme distance , it is  over 4 and   half years  and won over  $390.000

The dog looks like he was just winding up last week. Didnt see this weeks run so cant comment on it

Unreal to think there is only 11 races on thursday...no c5 sprint and no maiden race...surely there must have been enough noms to run either...even if the c5 race was a 6 or 7 dog field..it must help turnover? ...Or are we starting to see a decline in numbers in the north?

I can't believe they didn't get a full field for the Jack Hannan Memorial.

How did Palmerston North get of running a 5 race meeting?

Globe,  my intentions are not to be moving on in for quite awhile!

I always go oncourse to watch the races but nowadays to make money on the punt , not for the money but as a challenge against the fixed odds.

Owners nowadays know that there chances of owning a horse that can beat the AllStars horses is pretty remote, although they live in hope.

Without punters Globe there will be no harness racing, so you should give a rats!!!!!!

I have owned a number of horses over the years but there would be little chance of getting one into the All Stars Stable.

Just punt all the All-star horses. You win every time lol

Yes I agree everyone makes mistakes in life I have made plenty, but I can't see anyone taking responsibility for the mistake, to not happen again. Stewards are paid a decent salary why was this not mention in the stipes report.

    1. Who told the handler his dog was 3rd? Stewards this is a good starting point to find how this human error occurred.

    2. Trackside should've informed the viewers that this was a mistake on the podium and official result is 6/1/5 as the margin is only a nose. Yes Trackside were aware as I informed them and their response was to call Racing Integrity Unit, I called and they advised me its not their responsibility but they will inform the Stewards on course and get back to me ASAP still waiting!

    3. Now I believe no message was passed on to the Stewards, due to no mention in the stipes report. Racing Integrity Unit won't try and correct the issue from not happening again, Stewards on course obviously don't care or not aware either is a bad look.

Imagine if the third placed dog was a swab?

Genuine question here, is there any reason why Karen Walsh doesn't race any of her dogs at Manakau?

In a perfect world, I do not think anyone would race there. The tracks appalling. Been consistently awful since they put the new sand on it one or two years ago and heightened the canvas of the track (which was a terrible decision). And whenever anyone complains. its always the same old excuses like no one else has complained (which is rubbish) or they will/are fixing it.

I also believe the last time she went to Manukau, the lure broke down on one of her leading NZ cups contenders due to the faulty rail issue at the time that no one had tried to fix since the week before that trial.

The Auckland club has well and truly become the laughing stock of the country. Something needs to change up there and fast.

Apparently the Auckland drainage issue is nothing to do with the track but to do with the covers over the boxes and drains to take this stormwater away are blocked forcing the water to run across the track and washing it away.

Who knows why ? But irrespective why weren't they cleaned out or unblocked or aren't they done regularly to prevent this happening. I'm sure this has occurred on more than one occasion in the past so lessons should have been well learned.

it was only three weeks ago that another Auckland meeting was almost called off because the water truck had a puncture and it was only a last minute rescue bid by trainers who hired a water cart from a local service station that enabled the meeting to proceed.

As for Cambridge I don't believe it has a drainage problem either - it simply comes down to the new track manager still basically being in a learning phase and not being able to ascertain the proper water content in the surface. Thursday's track was probably the worst I'd ever witnessed there it was underconsoildated, underwatered and therefore too dry and loose.

Regardless someone needs to be held accountable for not ensuring the correct remedial work and or training is undertaken to avoid these types of situations happening.

paid out on blocked drains so obviously an issue
