I agree. Sprinting ranks are weak at Auckland. As for middle distance racing. They could have had a c5 with one c4 dog but decided not too (Although tbf there is a lack of c5 middle distance racing nation wide. Not just Auckland) The lack of numbers are what hurt the north. Their is no one breeding anywhere near the number of dogs that people like Cole, lanes and wales or McInerney do in the CD and down South. Although their seem to be a number of dogs coming through right now at Auckland
They are breeding from quality dogs and racing the best of those litters. Good on them I say. They are highlighting just how weak and the lack of depth the CD has with all of their flying machines and making it look easy to. The CD is in big trouble thats for sure if Coles continues to win races like they are
Maybe if people stopped breeding from weak low grade sprinters and middle dis dogs, the big time kennels wouldn't be dominating like they are? Hes breeding from quality bitches (who he is putting to top quality stud dogs) and is being rewarded for it. I may not agree with his methods but hes certainly getting the job done. Rozo was right about breeding in NZ the other day. People need to step their game up.
It is very hard for a distance dog to come to NZ within a month of the collar and win it. Several elite dogs from Aus have tried and failed in the past. My money is on Turnwalds distance dog. Should be a cracking event this year though
They have trials between the two set dates at all 3 tracks. All nominated dogs times are included between those two set dates. Than the first and second fastest timed dogs at all venues make up the final with the host venues 3rd fastest dog also making the final and a coin toss between the other two venues for the final place in the final. Than they are seeded into a field where all dogs race in groups of two and the fastest time is the winner of the race
Cole doesn't come up be cause he struggles to win races most of the time at Auckland. 1 or 2 winners out of 9-10 dogs. He is used to winning 8-9 races a meeting in the CD. To win races, he has to bring his best up otherwise it isn't worth a trip. His dogs do give the northern dogs far better prices though.
Some great publicity for greyhounds over here. https://www.thedogs.co.nz/News.aspx?NewsID=2344 I do not see why nzgra do not try and get these stories onto main stream media
Andy McCook is easily far better than most of NZs current greyhound race callers and will only get better with experience.
How about some of these older commentators move along and give him a go
