Catalano reacted to We're Doomed in How do you further downgrade the Wellington cup
I think most of us are aware they are targeting totally different horses. It is just that many of us consider a field of open stayers that have been around for a few years and racing in a time honoured race with a long history is a bit more important than a field of last start maiden winners and the like. After-all the day is called Wgtn Cup day not last start maiden winners day. If I read things correctly a 6yo mare that won a maiden at Wanganui is guaranteed a start in the gimmick race.
When Melbourne introduces a new race on Melbourne Cup day for last start maiden winners from Yarra Glen with a stake significantly higher than the Melbourne Cup I might admit that the WRC is more enlightened than many of us thought.
This might be considered another dick post, but I tend to agree with Contentious.

Easy - put on a special conditions staying race the same day and make it worth $50,000 more than the cup!

Catalano reacted to Pheroz in Ellerslie
I was at Flemington on the weekend, over 50,000 there, masses of young people dressed to the nines and loving it, great facilities and atmosphere. If we can duplicate what they offer we are on a winner. Karaka Millions gets the younger set along ,we need to have similar events more often. They have music and DJs in Melbourne after the racing so its more than just a racing occasion. Some of those younger people will develop a love for the horse, the thrill of a winner is ecstacy almost as good as the other.
Ellerslie is the crown jewel, a number of our tracks are less than inviting and will not attract the numbers the industry needs. I think Entain will influence the powers that be and hopefully reinvigorate our industry. It wont happen overnight but the first steps are encouraging.
As they say, " Good things take time" Lets get in behind this great game and be a glass half full team.

Catalano reacted to We're Doomed in Winston’s back……
At least they are fairly simple-minded types and relatively harmless. Much more worrying is the almost twice as many people who voted for the communist, racist party with the environmental front-man. They are actually dangerous, as you saw on election night and from the rant over the weekend. And I doubt many of them would list Racing as their favourite sport.

Catalano reacted to Palliser in First 4 vs Trifectas
Just my opinion, but I think since the advent of first 4s, both them and trifectas now offer less appeal. Basically because our pools are small the money is split giving smaller dividends. This isn't the case with the bigger races, but run of the mill day to day races suffer. I think first 4s except on big race days with all races covered in that instance, should be limited to the 2 or 3 highest rated races on the card, so then Trifectas are then worthwhile enough to have a crack at. Hope to hear what others think

Thanks all. He’s no champion (1 win from 20+ starts, but that was on Cup day at Ellerslie!), so I’ll just let missus continue to groom him and have snuggles.

Catalano reacted to Michael Roustoby in Gone in the wind
No it won't
Surgery the only thing that will fix it but that comes with a side order of complications,a big bill and no guarantee it will work. Unless it's a champion pull the pin

And do your best to utilise stallions that have demonstrated the ability to train on successfully for several seasons.
For the same reason.

And if it's a mare DON'T bred from her, as it's hereditary.

Catalano reacted to gubellini in Gone in the wind
Catalano best to retire the horse. If put back into work you might sneak a weak maiden sprint but zero chance of winning over ground.

Catalano reacted to Chris Wood in Gone in the wind
Michael has pretty well summed it up, I wouldn’t bother with a wind operation in any form or fashion, huge vets bill and no guarantees.

Catalano reacted to Nerula in Sharp N Smart
Just to expand. I serve on an Owners Committee and sat next to Craig Leishman last night. A call came to Craig and he left us to take it. He came back and said the results of the S and S blood test came in and the white blood cell reading was off.
Because of what I do I hear things. I would prefer not to divulge so try to be careful.
What people need to realise is that most owners love their horse/s and it is hurtful that nillers make a fuss when the horse has a problem. It can descend from interest to gossip.
