That result right there is why Melbourne racing and it's traditions will always be streets ahead of Sydney as it's "Races with no history" crassness.
3 year old plodders put the $8m Sydney race completely in the shade. That Sydney race could have been run for $1m and got exactly the same field.

Sticking with Surprise Baby , C Williams up and draws 7 , drew 20 last year and ridden like he had 2 Phar Laps inside him , track will be good , and has been set for this since last years cup . Only 2 runs since that cup , both crackers . I expect he will be ridden a lot closer than last year . All over him like a bad rash .

Have just done a quick tally of weights versus points( ignoring sex and age) compared to AVD at the top ,and sir dragonet comes out way above the rest followed by russian camelot, warning and tiger moth ,and then AVD and VE are level pegging BUT VE is a mare and the russian and tiger NH3yos and would normally get allowances, so will have to be very good indeed on cup day.So sir dragonet ,warning,AVD are top 3 all things being equal, if only it was that simple.

I'm no expert but I think VE is a big chance Tuesday. Classy multiple Grp 1 winner,, well weighted, in-form, handles all tracks (rain no problem) and has the 'will to win' written all over her, if you watch the Caulfield Cup replay the last 50m she had every right to cough it up but dug deep. Could she possibly be another Maybe Diva  in the making? Capable of winning over 1600m-2000m at wfa early in a prep and just gets better and better.. The thing I like most aout her is the ability to put in a very fast 200m sectional -that destructive 'turn of foot' that we saw in the CC. If she can 'go to sleep'/ switch off in the first 2400m of the Melbourne Cup ,she could brain 'em! If she pulls her head off, forget about it!

One of the earlier postings which everyone has probably forgotten about was that I mentioned dead-heat rules apply, so wondering if you took into account the 2 x dead-heats for 3rd for the day. In both races you had 1st, 2nd and one of the Dead Heat horses for third
For the Dead Heat for 3rd you got 0.5 points, plus the 5 and 3 points = 8.5 points
Then there were the 2 trifectas so allocated 5 points for the Tri. So 8.5 +5 meant you were allocated 13.5 points for both Flemington races 1 and 4. 
So based on the dead heat rules you missed out on 11 points which is the difference between your 78 and my allocation of 67...
Hope that explains everything okay, probably answers lots of others too wondering why their lower than expected allocation of points.

Enormous effort . Won 2 AFL premiership as a coach. Was a hard nose coach. To see him so emotional shows you what racing does to people. Owns the horse as well. Not a bad days work.

Another fantastic story , Denis Pagan , won 2 titles as a coach in the AFL , got his trainers license 6 months ago , had 3 horses to the races , all owned by him , one of them won a race and then on only the 12th time he takes a horse to the races he lines up one in the VRC Derby , G1 , and wins . Dreams are made of this stuff and the reason most of us are in it .

Plus , often good class Aussie races  to bet on against  mainly maiden races in NZ, plus much greater pools for Quaddies etc in  Aussie.
I do wonder why you seem to delight in the put down of NZ racing when you held one of the most respected posts in NZ racing plus owned a good horse which did pretty well in the NZ racing environment !

No meetings on Labour day in NI or other holidays because of the cost of staff possibly, no thought of offering meetings to some of the smaller clubs that would make something of them and actually promote the sport in a digestible manner.
Most clubs have sold their souls to the booze up crowd at the expense of rewarding race horse owners with a good race day experience, most meetings you go to youre lucky to see your horse come up the straight , let alone parading because the club have sold a section to a sponsor or a party or built/put a structure in the way, but this is all important to the clubs making a living and promoting the sport -what a farce!
Facilities and infrastructure for the horse/participants are an absolute joke at 90% of the race tracks around the country, in fact they are an after thought ! - but isn't the horse the reason we are supposed to be there in the first place?
Why would anyone bother going to the races now , the experience is absolutely vanilla and youre liable to run into a crowd of yobbos the racing club have given the best sit in the house to cause they are spending money over the bar.
Don't get me started on the amateur hour prevailing at nearly every racing club in the country, surely NZTR could make sure that side of things actually worked?
The entire sport needs a complete rethink and new faces .

Let's face it. It wasn't a vintage renewal of the Cox Plate. The race could only be rated 118-120. The form is franked through Magical and Anthony Van Dyck. Probabeel ran to her rating although she probably wasn't in the best part of the track running for home. She worryingly changed leg at the 200m. Shows the detractors just how good the imports really are. 
When we get a good one down here, they're competitive. The problem is that we don't get enough of them

After starting the day just in front of mid-pack, Disillusioned had a good day and and has hit the front.

Moonee Valley Race 3: Insider, Nukkledragga, Tasman Man II and Fredd002 with the First Four.
Moonee Valley Race 5: mrzim and Pegasus9 with the First Four.
Moonee Valley Race 6: What a nightmare to figure out the points with just about everyone having Young Whether in their selections which was a late scratching. Ended up Memphis2, Ohokaman, Seddon, Scooby351, Nukkledragga, Tasman Man II, Cabbage, Ivanthegreat, Caroline, and Gruff all striking the First Four as a result of the Scratching rule.
Moonee Valley Race 7: Cabbage, Tarantula, Gruff, Jenlove and Caroline again got the First Four because of the Scratching rule.
