Uriah Heap got a reaction from ziggy09 in Super 15, 2015
It's about to kick off this weekend.
Possibly a bit early for my liking.
I haven't really completed a good pre-season. Mostly a diet of cricket watching, which doesn't really prepare you for the rough and tumble of 1st class rugby viewing. My remote arm feels a bit soft and not yet hardened.

Still, what can you do? I'll be there Friday night at 7.35pm in front of the telly.

That was great footage of when the Cops finally stormed the building. I hope they all knew what they were shooting at cause from how it looked it surprising everyone in the building wasn't killed.
Interestingly in line with earlier Postings on here - It was a sniper who alerted his mates to go ii, as he saw things were turning ugly inside the building. Clearly he could not get a shot away.

This thread basically reads "We all had plenty of fun enjoying Guy Fawkes and Christmas when we were young. But now we are old and grumpy, so it's time to ban them. In fact let's ban anything that's fun. I didn't get where I am today by having fun"

The Waldorf Criterion near Britomart in Auckland has Trackside Racing (had all sports channels), is well located and the rooms are great (superior to Sky City).

That's a ridiculous Post Crusty. YOu need to get a grip.
Show me one sports star anywhere in the Western world who doesn't make bulk money. Many of them well in excess of anything Richie McCaw could even dream of. E.g. Christiano Ronaldo makes $700,000 a week and Real Madrid pay his tax for him so he gets the lot.
Most of these sports stars then invest wisely. E.g. In property or Rest Homes. I'm not sure what alternative action you are advocating for McCaw to follow.

Cunliffe and his wife clearly see it as his destiny to lead Labour out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land. The problem is that he does not have the personality to do so. The man is deluded. I actually think he might have a personality disorder.

    Good on ya Rambla
Not only does it increase brain function, if it's a language you identify with then it will raise your sense of self worth. Gives you more pride in yourself. That can only be a good thing for NZ society.

And what of all the myths and legends, the Maori gods, the Taonga, the haka?. Should all these be gone as well?

Uriah Heap got a reaction from tasman man 11 in Super Rugby Final
Well it will affect my life because I will not have my Cantab supporting mates crowing about it for the next 9 months. So that's a good thing. Plus the NSW victory should provide Super rugby with a far bigger boost than it would have got should boring old Canterbury have won.
But that is not the point. Debate needs to continue because we don't want Ref's deciding Grand Finals.
Refs can find a penalty for either team, at any ruck, if they of a mind too. He could have just as easily penalised the Warratah. "Player on the ground must either get up, pass or release the ball" says the rules. That fellow did none of those. He turned his body and moved a metre off to the side. "Penalty Red"

In such circumstances, we need Refs to be certain and preferably just put the whistle away. Just as Ref Joubert decided to do in the final three rucks, each of which NSW sealed off, by goin off their feet, in fine Southland style.

That's a fair point you make there Crusty. But it's the way of the world isn't it.
For instance I don't know about you, but when I get together with old rugby mates we happily recall our old hedonistic, risk taking days full of binge drinking, damaging pubs, driving in unwarranted cars, etc. All the things we lecture our kids against today.

Black Caps have a big win in a series away form home, against a half decent team. On the same day Lou Vincent decides to purge his soul to the media and grabs the headline.
Ahhh Lou, one bad decision after another. Can't you get anything right?

The new Principal comes on board and wants to "exert his authority". Wants to be seen as a "hard task master".
No doubt that is true - exactly what a new Principal at a traditional all boys school would want to do and what the majority of parents would be wanting him to do.
    "The kid is rightly miffed".
I'll bet he was, as were the others who got told to get their hair cut shorter. There are many rules at many schools, especially the traditional all boys schools, strictly enforced by Principals, that make kids "miffed". Do we want to challenge them all?

Where does this leave our new Principal now. Somewhat emasculated I'd say, having been seen to have been put in his place by the "miffed" kid, his father and the High Court. Is this what the majority of parents wanted for St Johns College and their new Principal - I'll bet it's not.
    A short sighted victory.

Someone now needs to go to the High Court and challenge Bars that won't let you in if you wearing $250. trainers, but will (let you in) if you're wearing $30 black school shoes from the No.1 Shoe Wharehouse.
It's another arbitrary rule, made by the person in charge, wanting to show that they are in charge. It's just waiting for some zealot to get all worked up over.

Is it my one eyed bias, or did a frustrated Steve Walsh just decide that the Hurricanes were not going to win HIS game last Saturday night v The Warratahs. One penalty for "mucking around", a Hurricanes "forward pass" that even the Aussie commentators disagreed with and then Perinara penalised for back chat. How often does a player get penalised for "back chat" these days? Fair go!

Ahhh a Kiwi wish list. How appropriate at Xmas time SS.
I will start this open discussion.

I see NZ utopia as beginning with NZ being a Republic, with a left leaning Govt, led by a Maori Prime Minister (fluent in Te Reo), with a NZ'r of Samoan decent as Deputy, and a NZ'r of Chinese decent as Finance Minister. Maori seats retained, but the
Greens wither and die, because their trendy, comfortable, middle class ideals ultimately impact most on the NZ working class.

Yep, 20/1 to 15/1 is not a huge move percentage wise, but I'll bet the stable hands had a piece of it.
But isn't this what we love about Aussie racing.
That shady, deceitful, untrustworthy, on the take, underhand, rip off your own grandmother side of things.

Actually that sums up what we love about Australians in general.
