Funny. I didn't think anybody had access to a covid vaccine until 2021? Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me now....

Certainly not early enough to have 2 doses in 2020 anyway, even in Ormerica.

Thank goodness someone has come onto this thread to correct blatant misinformation spreading, and to break up the  Gruff - TA - Chevy anti-vax wank-fest, they've got going.

I played rugby for my province at primary schools, under 16s,under 18s and secondary schools level. I was in the 1st XV for 4 years, captain for 3 years, at what is now a Super 8 school. I loved rugby, was what you could call a fanatic., but I very rarely watch now. The whole game infuriates me.

One last observation... I left Nz to Aussie after high school and went to Melbourne. I love Aussie Rules football... It is my favourite sport. Fast, open, skillful, fantastic crowds.... I love everything thing about it. I played for 5 or 6 years.

They have had problems with the the game style over the years I have been watching but are not afraid to make changes to improve the quality of the game. The game is run by 1 body, the Australian Football League (AFL) and that is the huge problem rugby has with all the different groups around the world having different views. The northern hemisphere is certainly on a different wavelength to the southern hemisphere.

That's interesting about time in Melbourne wph

I had a similar rugby upbringing to yourself (although not quite that successful in school - but did play Senior club).

Then like yourself, I lived in Melbourne for a time and got exposed to AFL. Now back in NZ I'm envious as all hell that we can't have a game with the flow, excitement and crowds of Aussie Rules. Like the 90,000 for Collingwood v Carlton; Otago vs Wellington (NPC) should get a passionate crowd of 25,000 minimum.

I think the three things Rugby Union could take from AFL are -

    1. No cards - incidents are reviewed post game and players banned accordingly (extended bans - so it really hurts your team.)

    2. Clock stops when ball not in play.

    3. TMO only rules on groundings over the line.

  3. Like wph, I have lost interest in the international rugby game.

I agree with these points he makes, that might resurrect my interest.

More points for a try; 7 sounds good (I'd also add  - "all conversions to be taken from a set point" - maybe 15 meters in from touch).

TMO - Gone (Ref and his touch judges officiate)

A Timekeeper - Clock stops for stoppages.(You don't need your stopwatch wph, the stats are available and the longest the ball was in play at this Rugby World Cup was the AB's Ireland game, and it was 41 minutes ????).

Disagree with the no subs. Modern game much more physical than the Glory Days and subs needed.

Even though I think he's taking the piss, I also like MikeNZ's idea of Tier 1 nations play one or two men short against minnows. (Like a golf handicap)

  4. The All Blacks v Ireland World Cup match was a great contest. It reignited my passion for International rugby, which had been seriously on the wane.

And Boks get up this morning. All that talk about France and Ireland, but when the heat goes on, look who come out victorious...yet again. Let's hope both AB's and Boys haven't knackered themselves for their semi-final matches.

  5. I like Tony Lee, but think whp makes a valid point about his calls on Saturday.

I noticed, at least in those early races, he was focusing on horses that were battling into 4th and 5th at best.

Still, it's not a major and he's such an icon it will be a sad day when he goes.

  6. A League man who appreciates his Aussie Rules? You are a rare breed indeed Turnagain Tommy.

I'll be sitting down tomorrow evening and flicking between the races from Aus and the MCG Grand Final, of what is undoubtably the greatest sport in the world.

At Half time I'll fire up the BBQ and then cheer home the Mighty Fitzroy Lions to victory.... All sing - "Go Lions Brisbane Lions we'll kick the winning goal...."

This post reflects the average persons perception of the World and why we are going down the shithouse. Classic

    U calling me dumb???

Yeah, I'd agree I'm just an average bloke. I look out and I see Covid came - people died in large numbers - we got a vaccine - now people don't die in large numbers.

Climate - I see much more about droughts; heat waves and floods on TV than I ever used too. To me, the climate seems more volatile. I ask "Why is that?" So I read Race Cafe for the considered opinions of Gruff; Hedley; Tripple A etc; Then I listen to Scientists -  and then I weigh things up. :rcf-nerd:

  8. Gee, that phone call doesn't sound good does it. It's straight out of the Bullies handbook.

I really like the (Republican) Georgia Secretary of States calm reply - "Respectfully, President Trump: What you're saying is not true."

How many times could you use this line in regard to former President Trump??

Just for the brainwashed idiots who go down the fake news rabbit hole

J6 was a staged riot organised by the FBI and DNC to certify a stolen election.

When will the 40,000 hours of video tape be released. ...at the appropriate time....just like the Epstein flight log

    Enjoy the show

Sometimes you sound a little bit crazy 100-1.

WMO have claimed every record temperature from the past as unreliable so why exactly is this Claim a big deal? Who funds these Clowns and two individuals in Particular. Circus, and James Shaw is Bonkers

I'm happy to put my hand up and say I believe in Science and what Scientists tell us. You dispute much of what Science tells us, particularly in regard to vaccines and climate change. I'm always keen to hear both sides, so I need to know - Where did you study; how long did you study for; and what are your qualifications?

I am going to the Japan v Norway game on Saturday evening. I went to the South Africa v Italy game last night and Wellinton turned on its worst possible Southerly Gale with Hail to boot.

However, what a dramatic game which made me ignore the cold. The South Africans had some very skillful players and a few not quite up to it but they prevailed and there were amazing scenes after the final whistle.

I got to a couple of games in Wellington and found it a lot of fun. Weather mild; Crowds upbeat, Mexican waves; my companions kept handing me beers; I swapped teams halfway through one game - Loved it!

Reminded me you gotta get out and support these events when they come along.

  12. Was former President Trump a compulsive liar from an early age? Probably! What can't be disputed is the influence of gay lawyer, Roy Cohn, on Trump, from mid 70's to mid 80's.

Cohn was corrupt, ruthless and taught Trump the tactics he uses to this day. Exploit power; Instill fear. "Attack; Counterattack and never apologise."

Cohn was eventually unmasked and disbarred. He died in 1986. Trump has never been able to find a suitable replacement, but certainly continues to follow Cohn's mantra.

Nothing unprecedented about any of it , it's all been done before it's just a matter of how far back you want to look ,

An appropriate time to bring this thread back in from the cold. With record high temperatures and prolonged heatwaves being experienced in the US; China; Southern Europe and the Middle East; I need our resident ACT voting; racist; climate change denier to explain it away, so I might rest easy.
