It makes me angry to read, listen to comments on greyhound racing, even some of you people on this thread.
The trainers absolutely love their dogs, they are incredibly well fed and looked after, they just love getting to the track and racing, just watch them get excited before they race.
Most of the people who comment negatively have never been to a greyhound race, or seen one in the flesh either during their racing career or afterwards as a loving family pet.
I have emailed the PM and despite his office assuring me they would get back to me after their “settling in period “ they have so far failed to front.
Re the drugs side of things I am led to believe it is recreational drugs ie cannabis and P , not given to the animals but contaminated by halfwits who appear in all walks of our current society in NZ.

Unbelievable ... he is boring, monotone and can't call a whole field because of that, he ranks at the bottom of greyhound callers along with Pip Morris. I think they are just letting her get on with presenting now, not sure there is anything else on offer for Rosanowski because in the studio he manages to send you to sleep as well, sounds as though he's reading you a bedtime story

Even though he hasn't called for years, he was great today at Palmy. Head and Shoulders above Rosanowski, so come on get him back fulltime and get rid of Rosanowski as a commentator.

Waller wanted to retire her Stodge, he understood her better than anyone.
After the Melbourne Cup win she had nothing else to prove…..and had put over $14m in connections pockets, which wasn’t enough apparently.
No need for her to go to Europe and plenty of quality stallions here for her. I bet Waller is seething privately that his advice was ignored.

Yep, and only got themselves to blame. I can't believe what has gone on over the last 10 - 15 years particularly, and nobody and I mean nobody has done a bloody thing .. it's getting worse. They talk about some dogs lacking in the top 2 inches ffs. It's a shame because there are some really good people within the industry but they are surrounded by incompetence and other which I won't say.

To the Martin's.They have a seriously good dog in Harry Bond great to see he is well looked after, reminds me of the good old days of dog racing. Was friends with Val and Gerald Jackson and remember they loved their dogs to pieces, especially Dusty Fog. All the best going forward 👍

    Animal Welfare

There have been two articles in The Press recently calling for the closure of greyhound
racing. The writers' agenda appears to be nothing more than jumping on a bandwagon that spreads misinformation and distorts outdated facts to suit. If they are genuinely concerned about animal welfare and euthanasia then their argument reeks of biased personal views and conveniently ignores the shocking truth about the welfare of cats and dogs in New Zealand. Unlike Greyhound Racing New Zealand, animal welfare organisations do not appear to have a central data base for gathering reliable and accurate information. The only figures I could find are from seven of fifty plus local councils From July 2021 to June 2022. 1662 dogs were euthanized and 5628 had “a happy ending”. Total estimate for the whole of the country comes to around 20000 deaths of dogs each year. There are no reliable figures so don't you think there should be? Thank you Greyhound Racing New Zealand for leading the way and providing the public with accurate figures and showcasing your concentration on animal welfare in your industry. You really love your dogs and they really like to race. To single out individual people who have already been dealt with by the industry is uncalled for and spiteful to say the least.

I do expect others to wear them, yes, but only in the same areas I wear them and that's the places that still have signs up stating "the wearing of masks is still compulsory"  in such areas; they being hospitals, dentists, GP's, chemists and blood test laboratories (that I've been to personally)..Outside of that I DON'T  wear them anywhere else, not at two crowded indoor concerts last weekend for example, .and I don't expect anybody else to either (although a few did, but that's their individual choice). Mask wearing was not exactly uncommon Auckland-wide in the years leading up to Covid. It's hardly an imposition for 15 minutes here and 30 minutes there.

exactly. I've grown up in greyhound racing. been on both sides of the Tasman. worked in kennels and owned dogs and from where I am now, racing in NZ is too difficult. I no longer own any dogs. last few recently retired and I don't plan on getting more as I now no longer have a license.
The issues regarding certain tracks have been ongoing for a decade. Even recent issues were not acted on until numerous dogs died (e.g., the Cambridge rail breakdown where the club and grnz knew for 5- or 6-months remedial work had to be undertaken). If I was this incompetent in my job now, id be fired. I certainly wouldn't hire any of the people in this industry to run something because they couldn't.
If I were a young trainer in NZ right now, id be looking at moving to Australia ASAP as I doubt racing here is going to last or even be sustainable long term

I made a post on 2June 2022 and asked for some advice on how to get started in Greyhound racing.  700 views and not a single reply. But after reading all other posts here, it looks the Greyhound racing ain't what it used to be. Thanks.

Complaints full on deaf ears with the board. They usually just ignore any complaints you raise. Its why many people have decided to leave the industry in the first place.
Ive spoke  to a few people who have sat on the board and theyve agreed the board is largely enept and out of its depth in relation to actually addressing issues within the industry.
Grnz are also reluctant to update and replace equipment. Part of the problem is no register exists currently of what grnz owns and doesnt own. Nor do they know where their assets are at which clubs. If you called up and asked for a register, they wouldnt be able to provide one.
Trainers gave up their rights about 7 or 8 yrs ago in regard to board decisions when they lost their representative on the board.

The fact is Cole has a giant monopoly on CD racing, nobody can compete and so they simply give up. It is steadily creeping up the North Island where the likes of the Craik kennel ( incidentally awesome trainers ) will eventually struggle, but before that others will fall by the wayside. The bigger picture is grim and NZGRA have done nothing to regulate by trying to create a more even playing field, they just watch as one kennel gradually invades everywhere. There is nothing wrong with being the biggest and or the best, but for the betterment of the sport how about thinking about promoting and encouraging people to get into training and ownership, create competition. You could introduce some sort of capping system for instance. My guess is the Cole kennel would have about 60% of all dogs racing in the C.D, and near on 50% in the North Island. How does that look if Mr or Mrs Bloggs looks at getting into the sport ? .. and people of influence like Rosanowski need to stop waffling on about how wonderful the Cole kennels achievements are ... boring boring 😴 .. imagine if the Premier League consisted of only Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd playing each other every week.

It's embarrassing because they can't compete, monoplies do that. God help us if the likes of the Craiks and others have to give up. As for Coles ludicrous statement about being bored shows the mentality of the man, he created the monopoly.. now he's bored ffs. On a positive note awesome to see Up Your Quota win the Railway, and fantastic interview with the lovely young lady who handled the dog, that's what we need to secure the future of Greyhound racing in NZ .... are you taking notes NZGRA bloody do something, and stop these idiotic trackside presenters spouting how fantastic the Cole Kennel is.

Greyhound racing is in decline in this country, steadily creeping towards oblivion for reasons I have highlighted in that silly thread about it growing. Today at Manakau lure breaks down .. no back up lure, absolutely brilliant ffs

Kurious .. agree with you, but as you can tell by the amount of content on this forum, greyhound racing in NZ particularly the C.D is dying in respect to participation, and those supposed to be doing a job, aren't doing a thing and frankly don't care or are just plain incompetent. The industry is tainted and there are to many mates and boys clubs. Tracks are shut down, commentators are all over the country with no consistency, they are not up to scratch apart from Andy McCook and maybe Aaron. The C.D is a monopoly and a joke, the so called top trainer appears to be a ghost, she may have been on T.V but I have never ever seen her ? .. does she even train dogs ?  .. everything is so Mickey Mouse. I used to own dogs and loved them, had an awesome trainer she trains in the South with only couple of dogs now because of disillusionment.
