When Black Caviar retired in 2013 I never thought I’d see one better then along came Winx. After getting towelled up early on in her career by First Seal who could imagine the horse that she would become?!
My favourite memory of her will be seeing how she keeps her head carriage so balanced when she knuckles down. You can see a switch flick in her brain and that undeniable determination is impenetrable to the other mere mortals.
I’ll be interested to hear what Darren Flindell has orchestrated once she crosses the finish line one final time.
Farewell to the Queen. Thanks for the memories. I will savour every second of today and will cherish the experience forever.

I did have to smile at the announcement on the NZ Racing website that they have begrudgingly added a maiden 2,000m to the upcoming Ashburton meeting. But it will need "reasonable noms" to proceed.
Yesterday's maiden 1,600m at Riccarton was the only maiden race further than 1,200m for colts and geldings between 22 Feb and 3 April in Canterbury. And North Islanders think they have it tough. When you consider that virtually every race meeting at Riccarton over the last few months has had at least one race dropped because of insufficient noms, it does seem ironic that a sizable pool of horses has no racing opportunities at all. It might also explain why horses aren't coming through the grades and allowing the higher rated staying races to proceed.
Perhaps if the industry started getting the little things right before spending $50m on computers and shutting down racecourses everywhere.

TWITTER TROLLS ... GIVE IT A REST
The next time racing’s twitter trolls start giving a jockey a disgraceful bake, they should think of two words.
    Tye Angland.
It’s extremely distressing to consider the situation Angland finds himself in – he simply went to work one day to do his job and now he finds his life forever changed as a quadriplegic.
I’ve always had enormous respect for jockeys – small individuals who sit on 500kg+ horses and put themselves in harm’s way every single time they are legged up on one.
It was one of the reasons I kicked up for them on Racenet last year when they were fighting for a pay rise in Victoria – and my stance at the time was unpopular with many sections of the industry.
Jockeys are highly paid sportspeople and – just like other highly paid sportspeople – they should rightly be subject to scrutiny and criticism when they put in a poor performance.
But the amount of atrocious verbal attacks on social media I’ve seen on jockeys lately, from mostly anonymous types who hide behind fake identities and have probably lost $5 betting on a favourite, is beyond the pale.
And at times it has been worse than that - Angland himself had his car vandalised by a disgruntled punter after he was beaten on Press Statement in the Group I Golden Rose in 2015.
It was certainly great to see social media flooded with sympathy and well wishes for Angland when the sad news was announced the other day he was a quadriplegic.
But some people need to have a good, hard look at themselves.
Some of the very types that were expressing sympathy for Angland were only a day or a week earlier giving some of his riding colleagues disgracefully abusive serves for what they perceived as poor rides.
It’s got to stop – there’s a huge difference between acceptable criticism and personal and foul attacks.
The Racenet family wish Angland and his wife and family the very best for their future.

I do not know much about how the NZR/TAB support clubs. Obviously there is the input into the stakes but in terms money to up keep tracks and other infrastructure , I do not know the detail.
But if a club can upkeep a track and associated building without central industry support  why should it have to close down the track? As for the money from a community asset going to fund uncontrolled expenses etc. in Petone --they can take " a running jump".

Exactly,  the clubs involved - and anyone else who cares - are only too aware of that,  but there is/will be a great deal of resistance.  The scrap hasn't started yet......
....which will be pointless if  NZTR in its ineffable wisdom refuses those clubs a licence to race.
Will be very interesting;  certainly I have doubts that Winston will have the cross-party support to get any legislative change - and who would want to give extra funding to the current mob to further mismanage anyway?

That's very true...I  [ among many I think ]  was most impressed by Luke Radich's reasoned dissemination of the M Report ;   while it is clear SOMETHING must be done,  ripping the guts out of rural NZ to support a hypothesis is a tad scary.

I appreciate where your your coming from and i certainly don't have all the answers but i do know closing these tracks to save wastage isn't going to be of any great consequence in the grand scheme of trying to save  the industry . I do know that if tracks close a lot of people won't be in a position to just up sticks  and move to another track , they will have family , work that will make it unfeasible , properties to sell , who's buying their stables with no track , some will make the move but i know from talking to people a large number say it is simply unworkable with these commitments . As iv'e said participation numbers are so low now the industry can't afford to take a substantial loss of participants . Only my opinion but the cost savings IF all the listed tracks were closed won't make a ripple on what is required to turn this industry around . If the clubs are losing the amounts you suggest the clubs won't be able to sustain the losses and they will have hard decisions to make , but let them make those decisions , they've earned the right . If there as many struggling clubs as suggested then natural attrition will sort it out .

Exactly the point I was trying to make - the horse wasn’t sold to Waller’s owners, he is still SI owned - read an article this morning about Patrick Erin and Chris Waller no mention of a bloodstock agent and kudos was given to the Anderton’s and the horses owner’s for sending him to Aussie.

I'm a small time player in this game, I punt, I breed , I race , I'm involved in the local club ,a member of some associations,I go on the Stallion Parades, I buy the odd horse, I look forward to the summer race days , it's a huge part of my life and has been for decades.
I'm worried there are several persons in the sport just like me. Well I'm totally disillusioned with it dumbfounded by the lack of respect for the persons like my self who have been kicked to the pavement with very little regard. I'm told not to worry as the racing game will replace me with the 18-40yo syndicate crowd and it will be the better for it.
I'd like to be out of the game tomorrow if this all proceeds , now in the greater scheme of things I don't matter and the racing industry won't be impacted by losing me, but I wonder if there are 50 to 100 or 200 persons across the country out there just like me who feel the same way if that's the case I don't think racing will recover without its hardcore.
The manner in which the changes have been suggested feels like waking up one morning and finding out your lover isn't the person you thought they were.
