MissJools got a reaction from Insider in Come fly with Dee
Group 1 winning hoop Michael Dee has taken things to new heights – quite literally – by recently becoming a licensed private helicopter pilot.

By and large, traditionally many of them like to take to the golf course or fishing, some even take their fitness to the next level and run triathlons. Campbell Rawiller trains greyhounds, Ben Allen is a DJ and Remi Tremsal is a salted-caramel chef - these are just some that come to the top of mind.
But Group 1 winning hoop Michael Dee has taken things to new heights – quite literally – by recently becoming a licensed private helicopter pilot.
“I try to play golf but maybe it wasn’t a big enough adrenaline rush for me,” Dee confessed.
“I was always quite fascinated with how helicopters operated and thought I’d give it a go.
“I’m always looking and have the flight app and the radar and if I see a plane go over or helicopter I have a look and see what it is.
    “It’s a little bit nerdy!”
After completing up to 80-hours of supervised flying, post the spring carnival Dee successfully conducted a navigation course with an examiner and sat 3.5-hour theory exam to gain a license of a different kind.

“I am probably more comfortable on a horse at this stage,” Dee admitted.
“They are two very different things… a helicopter you have more control over but it depends if it was a real rogue of a horse.
“I had my first time flying to the races the other day and my heart was pumping flying there and then you get on the horse and your heart is pumping again.
“I think because I am at my early stages of flying I am really thinking about it and not as relaxed as I should be as opposed to on a horse, so that will come in time.”
While the hobby’s of jockeys may well be varied, some thought Dee’s new-found pursuit was even farfetched or not believable.
That was until he arrived at Bendigo races recently in his very own chopper landing in the middle of the racecourse with Jye McNeil onboard as passenger.
“I don’t think anyone really believed it for a really long time until they saw it with their own eyes,” Dee said.
“There’s no shortage (of passengers) but when it comes to pricing and what jockeys have to pay they shy away from the idea!
“The original idea was to fly to country meetings and more or less have a bit of fun.”
While Dee has no ambitions to fly commercial planes when his time in the saddle comes to an end, he does admit the license comes with its advantages.
“When you’re in the air and you see there is a lot of traffic especially over the Wast Gate or the Bolte Bridge or the Monash. you look down and just laugh inside,” he said.
“I am just hiring a local helicopter at the moment but maybe if I win a big race potentially that’s an idea (buying a helicopter).
“But I have to earn some more money first!”

The racing future of 2022 Melbourne Cup Winner Gold Trip is currently up in the air after he suffered a Tendon Inury, and a decision via a statement on whether he races again will be made in a few days. But he won't race for the rest autumn.  Gold Trip is an Entire.

Melbourne Cup champion Gold Trip has suffered a tendon injury, leaving his racing career up in the air.
Trainer Ciaron Maher confirmed on Wednesday that the Group 1 star will miss the rest of the autumn with an injury the stable described as 'on the less serious side'.
The stable said via a statement that a decision on his racing career will be made 'in the coming days'.
"It is with sadness we announce that Gold Trip has sustained a tendon injury, ruling him out of the Autumn," the statement released on X said.
"We will rehabilitate him regardless of whether he races on or not.
"His Australian racing career delivered arguably the stable's crowning achievement to date with his dominant performance in the 2022 Melbourne Cup.
"His win in the 2023 Turnbull Stakes was just as impressive, and he showed us how talented and resilient he is, competing in the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup in back-to-back years.
"He is an entire, and a horse of obvious ability, with his 4th place in the L'Arc De Triomphe sitting alongside a Melbourne Cup win that rated 106.
"Our rehab program has seen horses such as Ashrun return from extended time off, and while Gold Trip is a 7yo, he is relatively lightly-raced so the decision will not be an easy one.
"We would like to thank his wonderful owners for their support, he has taken us on an incredible journey and changed all of our lives. A decision will be made in the coming days after further consultation with our vets and his owners."

No, that's not correct.  Berri had an Exercise-undiced pulmonary hemorrage, it was an internal hemorrage and is different to a bleeding attack where there is bleeding in the nostrils.

MissJools got a reaction from Black Kirrama in Lupo Solitario sold to Hong Kong
Danica Guy’s talented three-year-old Lupo Solitario has been sold to Hong Kong.
A son of Satono Aladdin, Lupo Solitario announced himself with a bold winning performance on debut in August 2023, attracting extensive buyer interest.
His ownership group, including Leighton Howl who purchased the gelding for $82,500 out of Rich Hill Stud’s draft at the 2022 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales, resisted the sale initially, and Lupo Solitario continued to perform among the best of this season’s three-year-old crop.
“His debut run was really exciting, he was so green and he won so well. He really put his name out there with that run and he just kept improving,” Guy said.
Matamata-based Guy tested Lupo Solitario twice at Group level through his six starts in New Zealand and his runner-up performance behind star three-year-old Crocetti in the Gr.2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial (1400m) was one she described as his best.
“His best run was probably for second in the Annie Sarten, he hit the line hard behind Crocetti,” she said.
Lupo Solitario was rewarded for his consistency when defeating subsequent Gr.1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) winner Orchestral in the Gr.3 Bonecrusher Stakes (1400m) and had his only finish outside of the top two when finishing eighth in the Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m), also won by the phenomenal filly.
“I think he was only tripped up in his last two starts, one was a wet track, and secondly on Karaka Millions night, we were really badly let down by the track being greasy,” Guy said.
“With his low, flat action and big stride, he just struggled on the ground.
“But I think he’s definitely right up there as one of the best three-year-olds this season.”
Following his Karaka Millions performance, Lupo Solitario was subsequently sold to a long-time client of Guy’s stable, that had previously purchased her 2015 Gr.1 Levin Classic (1600m) winner Gaultier.
Gaultier continued on to win a further three races in the competitive jurisdiction, while his sire Rios was later purchased and stood at Guy’s Upstage Bloodstock operation from late 2018.
“I’m very excited to have sold him (Lupo Solitario) to a long-time client of the stable, who bought Gaultier off us years ago,” she said.
“He will enjoy the environment up there, he’s very laid back and not much bothers him, so he should acclimatise to it all.
“They have a different tempo to their races so I’m not sure how he’ll go, but I’d imagine the fast tracks up there will suit him well. I definitely think he can make the step out to the 2000m as well.”
