  1. A stallion marketed as a Champion Sprinter who couldn't keep up in Aussie G1s = Lotto Stallion but good on them if they have won Lotto again. Tavistock's limited success doesn't change why the NZ Breeding industry is at it's current lows. Cambridge Stud lost its way last decade when they tried to breed for the Aussie 2Y0/Sprint Market - others followed his lead standing 3rd rate sprint stallions, in the process diluting the stout NZ bloodlines with inferior sprint blood. But instead of standing quality sprint stallions to compete with Aussie's best, Patrick Hogan trotted out the likes of One Cool Cat, boldly claiming this was the future of NZ breeding. When Redoutes Choice was booming, Hogan gave NZ Lucky Unicorn LOL! Tavistock is typical of the "Sprint" Stallions Hogan persisted with. He had given up on Tavistock in 2014 and publicly claimed he had found the one in "Burgundy" - then let his used car salesman sounding Stud Manager to make outrageous claims like: "If Burgundy had won the Telegraph, he would be standing at a Hunter Valley Stud" and "Burgundy was the fastest horse Bridgeman had ever trained" - so fast that Bridgeman had to manipulate the weights TWICE for Burgundy to fall in to win 2 poxy NZ Listed sprints. How Tavistock progresses will determine how good he is, but doesn't change the opinion of most that he was a Lotto Stallion to begin with. Even Canelo who is singing his praises now, thought he was going to be Average.
  2. LOL you're quite entertaining and seem to comment A LOT about KFE from her dress styles to her age etc... do you have a problem with successful women because you're a self confessed budget breeder? Social climber? Born at the top so not much to climb... and no it wasn't me, I don't spend x amount of $ to supply the product so that NZTR/NZRB can jetset around the world or hire expensive hotel rooms, while owners have to race for pennies in NZ
  3. oh my dear bloke... who cares about being laughed at by the hoi polloi like yourself? You have showed your true colours n other threads having digs at KFE and Te Akau, JAFAS etc - you seem to have a big chip on your shoulder with the "HAVES" of this world. Or do you have a problem with Te Akau and KFE because they jumped into bed with Waikato Stud? Good on you if you sent your low grade mares to a Lotto stallion Tavistock and now have a chance to move up in the world. NZ industry desperately needs a stallion to stand up and be counted - we shall see in the coming years.
  4. LOL if you can't afford it as expected, just say so - calling out my integrity when you have clearly proven you have none in many of your posts is piss weak. I'd luv to have a drink and a chat with ya at Karaka but I won't be around for the Festival Sale
  5. Not dumb at all Canelo. I am happy to be wrong as stated above - it's a silly bloke who lacks any integrity who has stated OPINION as FACT for the past year that continues to think it matters if I am wrong. Breeding is not Lotto. The good breeders try to increase their chances of breeding a good one by breeding pedigree, confirmation, and performance to the like. Tavistock was marketed as a Champion "NZ" Sprinter who couldn't keep up in the Aussie G1 Sprints - Zabeel is making him look quite good. I am quite the CHILL person, and am thoroughly entertained as with many of the who's who of Australasian breeding; with the desperate SPIN that comes out of NZ these days because, as other Premier Sales continue to go from strength to strength, Karaka Premier has trended downwards. To be bitter would be to "miss out" - if I sent one of mine or my family's mares to Tavistock, they would be welcomed with the red carpet. Bloke who was one of the Lotto brigade who claimed Tavistock was the next "BIG THING" and his progeny have supposedly achieved that should BACK up what they say. When Zabeel was the "BIG THING" he was a Top 3 stallion at Karaka
  6. Can you NOT read bloke? I acknowledged above that Tarzino would romp home in the Derby when the fillies who dominated the colts leading up to the Derby were saved for the Oaks! I don't need a way out bloke because every one and sundry worth their pedigree in the breeding world without prejudiuce acknowledges Zarzino and Zabeel. Put your money where your Lotto faith is bloke. According to your "Faith", Tavistock should finish ahead of Savabeel or be a Top 3 stallion at Karaka Premier? Let's have a wager: If Tavistock finishes ahead of Savabeel at Karaka Premier, I'll pay your service fee to Tavistock to one of your mares for the 2016 breeding season. If Tavistock finishes Top 3 at Karaka Premier, I'll give you free lease of your CHOICE to any ONE of my Group mares to go to Tavistock for 2016 +.service fee including mare's airfare from Aussie(if applicable) If Tavistock accomplishes neither, you will donate his service fee or at least $2500(which ever is financially realistic for you) to a charity of my choice. Very generous on my behalf so BRING IT ON!
  7. Sorry Col but I don't need to know for a fact because it's REECE JONES - his reputation is well known and MANY an owner won't put him on! Like I said: Too many NZ jocks just "Turn Up" and the horses make them look good most of the time
  8. Totally agree with you Bimbo about worse rides. But if the proper lead up form/video watching was one, Kawi should NEVER have been ridden up to hold a position inside Farm Boy. These jocks are "supposedly" professional sports persons. If they aren't prepared to do the ground work leading up to races(especially Group races which are meant to be the pinnacle of the sport) they should find another career or stick to the amateur races. JMac or Opie would have won on Kawi because they put in the form work leading up to their rides. Too many NZ jocks just "Turn Up" and take the ride and collect their fee - that's a FACT and the owners pay for all the associated costs leading up to the race.
  9. Kawi was the lay of the day once Reece Jones was confirmed as rider. Having the chance to watch the replay over and over again(not talking through my pocket as I backed Soriano), it was a TERRIBLE ride. Ridden up rounding for home to hold a position inside Farm Boy when it's well known the horse needs clear air to stretch out. The result: being held up most of the straight. If Jones had done his form and watched Kawi's videos as the good jocks do, he would have seen how the horse has previously been snagged back behind horses before being steered into the clear to unleash his finishing burst to win. Should have eased behind Farm Boy then brought outside him for one run as is Kawi's racing pattern. Connections rightfully PISSED off - all the hard work getting the horse to the races to be given a poor ride by a jockey too lazy to do the form or homework leading up to the race.
  10. I am more than happy for you hoi polloi Lotto breeders who grasp at any bit of hope of a "Lotto" bred horse and some success - the battlers need success also y'know? Well pleased for you lot so you can't complain that the "Haves" have the majority of success! What a wonderful mare Zarzino is turning out to be - from a wonderful NZ female family and by the mighty ZABEEL who can make any stallion look good! What a huge LOSS ZABEEL is to the NZ industry! Going by ALL you Lotto faithful, Tavistock should be a Top 5 stallion at Karaka Premier 2016
  11. When the fillies who had dominated the colts leading into the Derby were saved for the Oaks, it was obvious Tarzino would romp home in the Derby - weakest Spring crop of 1600m+ Colts in years. OUCH? LOL! Far from it - well PLEASED with Tarzino's win in the Derby I anchored Tarzino in my quaddie and got 250% share of the $4 million quaddie on SupaTAB which set me up for an A-MAZ-ING 2 weeks of racing and social events in Melbourne.
  12. The only stupidity is a bloke who SPINS opinion as fact when Time Form ratings, Race Results(franking form) are readily available for the intelligent to utilise. If you feel insulted by the fact that Patrick Hogan publicly claimed he had found "The One" in Burgundy, instead of your beloved Tavistock, then you need to take that up with him!
  13. Again: Bitter about MEDICORITY? lol lol lol - your delusions continue to get worst. Clearly you continue to display you can't read: Firstly a post about 2YOS and now you sate the bloody obvious about Patrick sending all of his Zabeel mares to Tavistock after the question was asked: "How many Group mares or mares from quality families outside Cambridge Stud did Tavistock get? Also remember that Patrick Hogan claimed "He had found the one" in Burgundy - NOT Tavistock lol It's ok to dream Bloke and continue the way you do - and I DO hope that you win Lotto and breed a Tavistock that race results, Time Form, people without prejudice: world class trainers, bloodstock agents and breeders rate, because the NZ breeding industry DEFINATELY needs a stallion to step into the shoes of Zabeel after losing it's way for sooooo long!. Let the Sales Results, Race Results and Time Form Ratings do Tavistocks talking - cause your "opinions" are actually making him look like a Lotto Stallion
  14. Oh PAH-LEASE bloke! My POST in it's entirety is about 2YOs and only a "Spinner" would look at it any other way! The fact that you ASSUME I went quiet because of Tavistock's 3YOs winning in the worst crop of 3YOs in 20 years, it is you who are clasping at straws - if I had been in NZ for most of this year, would have followed NZ racing more closely and already previously stated: no point debating the Lotto brigade until Tavistocks stepped out of restricted 3YO age racing and UP against the big boys. Tavistock's book was full shortly after the fee was announced because there is far too many low grade mares in NZ that were sent to him instead of one of the other Lotto stallions standing in NZ! How many Group mares or mares from quality families outside Cambridge Stud did Tavistock get? re TRAZINO, we'll see how the form of a field of 1 win/maidens stack up in the coming weeks! This is a thread about Tavistock, so I will refrain from commenting further about Cambridge Stud or being accused of insulting Patrick Hogan.
  15. Very noice attempt to SPIN what I said Bloke - it is to be expected from the Lotto brigade! I'll post the entirety of my original post, which was back in 2013, after a Tavistock won a $7k 2YO maiden at Otaki. "OH Come on you lot! This was a NZ 2YO race not an Aussie 2YO race! A mid week 2YO like Ockam's Razor(sp?) is good enough to win the Karaka Million while last season's "NZ champion 2YO" is yet to place in 5 runs in Aussie. If the Tavistocks are any good, they will end up winning in Aussie - simples!" The POST was referring to 2YO racing! No Tavistock 2YOs have won in Aussie to date! ps: TRAZINO beat a field of 1 wins/maidens and won't win the VRC Derby!
  16. Bitter about mediocrity? The delusions of grandeur continue from the Lotto brigade! The fact that is known and will be reflected at Karaka 2016 is that Tavistock 3YOs' made an imprerssion during the weakest crop of 3YOs in 20 years! There was no point arguing with the Lotto brigade until the Tavistock's stepped out of "age group racing" and against the big boys. The results, are as expected: How is VSB going against the big boys? Why is Hasslehoof still racing in the lower grade NZ Class races - it's not like the owners can't afford to put it on a plane to race in Aussie? I'm still waiting to be "Gobsmacked" about the Gloaming Stakes starter? The bubbles keep bursting as reality sets in after all the spin, spin SPIN! The cream always rises to the top with RACE RESULTS and Time Form Ratings - y'know, the cold hard, facts that SPIN can't buy Dal Cielo(Per Incanto) went super in Melbourne, Mongolian Khan keeps progressing impressively(oops TAS bred)... the Savabeel's continue to run well in Australia with the very unlucky G1 winner Pasadena's Girl etc etc etc... so yes I do enjoy the success of the quality NZ based stallions
  17. WOW! I see the Lotto breeders are out in FORCE! Despite the progeny stats and the Time Form ratings that are available for all and sundry to see - the spin, spin, spin continues; that only the foolish of yesteryear would believe because they don't goggle all the available information out there! All the world class trainers in Aussie along with the NZ trainers, bloodstock agents and breeders in NZ without prejudice would DEFINATELY know what end of a horse to feed a carrot to - they certainly haven't been lining up to buy the Tavistocks! High Chaparral left So You Think, Monacul Consul, Shoot Out and Descarado from His 1st Crop. Anyone who thinks Tavistock is outperforming High Chaparral because of VSB in a very average crop of 3YOs or Werther beating a small field of veterans in Brissie = High Class, really are delusional! Zabeel(God Bless) is what is the making of the Tavistocks as 3YOs. And now the 1st Crop are racing with the "Big Boys" - Tavistock who??? Can't argue with race results! Sceptical? Yeah Nah - just REALISTIC!
  18. LOL LOL LOL you are an ABSOULUTE NUMPTY! So NZB's Premier/K1 sales figures are SO AVERAGE because: * The SMART Kiwi buyers buy cheap, get them ready win a trial and sell to Hong Kong's finite horse population for massive" profits * Aussie buyers, NZ's biggest market at Karaka must be stupid because they spend average amounts instead of buying cheap, getting them ready, win a trial and selling to Hong Kong's finite horse population for massive profits * The Stud farms must be more stupid for selling at Karaka, instead of getting them ready, win a trial and selling to Hong Kong's finite horse population for massive profits * Te Akau and David Ellis must be the even more stupid buyer cause he spends the most at Karaka instead of buying them cheap, getting them ready, win a trial and selling them to Hong Kong's finite horse population for massive profits * Inglis Easter buyers must be the stupidest of stupid for spending SOOO much, instead of buying them cheap at Karaka, getting them ready, win a trial and selling them to Hong King's finite horse population for massive profits. Wow oh WOW - NZB should hire you as a consultant as to why their K1 sales results are so average huh? The old man that claimed Mongolian Khan was NZ bred, that the Grafton Cup was a major Aussie race etc etc etc..... It's no wonder Chris Thompson made such a fool of you from your ramblings in the past; that you had to change your name from "TheApprentice" to Trumpet - eh? Have another drink or get some new medication for your old age - you're actually looking the stupidest of them all by the day ERNIE
  19. LOL still blowing the same old tune Trumpet. No scrambled egg at all - the Sales Results at NZB would show that the majority of buyers think the same as me re the NZ Breds.
  20. Whilst I am in agreement wit most that Savabeel is the best currently standing in NZ, he hasn't even come close to the deeds of a Sir T or Zabeel to command a 100k fee in lil ol NZ with the current breeding climate. I have to disagree with the afore mentioned re "Conceived Fee" vs Sales price. Conceived Fee affects Vendors' reserves but buyers buy "In Fashion" or "Racetrack Boom" Savabeel's K1 average was $189.3k and K2 $68.3k this year. He's not exactly setting the world on fire like Zabeel did so: Will he be in fashion in 3 years time? Remembering that the Market doesn't take much notice of NZ Race results, Lloyd how do you come to your Top 3 Australasia conclusion? Zabeel was consistently a Top 5 Stallion on the Australian General Sires list when he stood for $100k - Savabeel has yet to crack the Top 25! Good luck to Waikato and the 30 outside mares. For $100k+, the better outside mares will go to an Aussie stallion with a much better stud record and sales record.
  21. Insider..... I agree with you re NZ Stud fees being delusional compared to what's offered in Aussie and what's happening at the Sales. If I may offer some points based on my last couple of weeks in Sydney: Australia is NZ's biggest market and their racing is based around 2YO and Sprint racing. NZ doesn't have any "quality and marketable" sires that cater to that Market - so here's hoping PER INCANTO can maybe do something based on his NZ results. Australia are buying Ready Made race horses from Europe for 4YO+ and 2000m+ Racing and they have proven far superior to NZ Breds. So that just leaves the small market of: 3YO 2000m+ horses for the NZ Breds. And then a Tasmanian bred wins both the NZ and AJC Derby Hence all the spin coming out from the big Studs and NZB - only problem is that this is the 2010's, and everyone GOOGLES before they buy
  22. Trump..... Don't know who your "first hand" folks are but the general consensus whilst I was in Sydney for the racing and sales was that people are more than happy with buys/sales. There was a horse for every budget, it was an even Market and that's a good market for all. 423 Lots Offered..... Sold: 350 or 83% Gross: $102,110,000 (+23%) Average: $291,742 (+17%) Median: $200,000 (+11%) Top Lot: $2,200,000 83% clearance with many more sales accepted post Inglis Easter; Gross up a whopping 23%, Average and Median both up decent amounts so contradicts your "first handers" accounts don't you think? The only thing for NZ breeders/vendors to take from this year's completed major sales is; if you have a yearling with pedigree and confirmation, you should be selling it at Inglis Easter 2016!
  23. Good to see you're still breathing old boy Trumpet FYI: Mongolian Khan is Tasmanian bred. And CONGRATS must go out to the NZTS(New Zealand Thoroughbred Swim) Team for the amazing results at the past 2 Autumn Carnivals! *jokes* Seriously though; I will always cheer Kiwis home first - hell I even cheered the stand down for the Darci Brama girl to win the Oaks lolz BUT these race track results must be a big WAKE UP call for the NZ industry! Because they certainly don't reflect in sales at Karaka! Take away the Aussie based sires' progeny, and you are left with a gaping big hole in gross at K1. While average sales continue at NZB, Magic Millions had a cracker this year, and Inglis continues it's juggernaut results! The question NZ Bloodstock and NZTR need to be asking is: WHY are NZ's new wave of "New Money" and the next generation of "Old Money" spending up large on ownership at Inglis and shared ownership of multiple horses in Australia but avoiding NZ sydicates/ownerships like a bad rash? A good chunk of NZ money is going into Aussie racing and it's not because of closeness to dollar parity - it's been going on for a whiles.
  24. NZ was promised a better and more accurate timing system than what Hong Kong and Singapore had. But as NZ still waits, Australia just got the below: TIME for NZTR to ask for a refund THE introduction on Friday of the world’s most sophisticated timing and tracking device would have quickly changed Shane Dye’s claims that he didn’t cover any extraordinary amount of extra ground to lose by the narrowest of margins on Veandercross in the 1992 Caulfield Cup. In one of the most infamous rides in Australian turf history, Dye did concede he might have left his run a little too late on the favourite. Longines Announce Launch Of The Longines Positioning System Longines vice-president and international marketing boss Juan-Carlos Capelli and trainer Peter Moody at the launch of the Longines Positioning System. Picture: Getty Images The Longines positioning system, launched at Randwick on Friday, would have given answers to all aspects of Dye’s ride, including data within a few centimetres of just how many more metres Veandercross covered in the 2400m race. It will provide an assortment of data in real time and give punters, trainers and jockeys unprecedented information on horses in the run which can be used for assessing performance and form analysis. Also provided is instant data on the exact position of horses during a race, race rankings, the distance between horses and instant speed of the horse. And it boasts accuracy down to five centimetres and features up to 1000 measurements or data per second. Data can be customised at any time during a race to show the movement of any horse and can reveal the speed of horses when they have received checks or been blocked for runs. The system, which will be used for the first time at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, is a game-changing development for timekeeping and track technology in thoroughbred racing, according to Longines vice-president and international marketing boss, Juan-Carlos Capelli. A 62-gram tracking device with a battery life of five hours is attached to the saddle cloth and transmits to 12 antennas on the track which relay data to a base station on the track and then show on screen. Capelli said the system will be used globally at race tracks in partnership with Longines. While on-course punters at Randwick will be the first to benefit from the state-of-the-art system, Capelli said he is excited with how the technology can be used in the future for TV viewers and mobile phone and tablet users. Leading trainer Peter Moody said the data would be able to individualise each horse and provide so much more than just traditional, sectional times. “To be able to split it up individually to concentrate on your own horse is so important,” he said. “I can now see where my horse lost ground, made up ground so I can then work with my jockeys and the way I train my horses and where I need to improve and it will become a valuable took in analysing pre and post-race.” Racing New South Wales stewards have expressed interest in exploring whether the system can assist them making judgments on riding tactics and interference. Australian Turf Club chief executive Darren Pearce said the Swiss watchmaker’s technology would allow more people to analyse the running of the race in real-time and then be able to analysis the performances of horses for future form assessment. Pearce also announced that Longines was the new sponsor of the Golden Slipper.
  25. ANGVELLA looks a moody dog and on form, looks due for a miss the jump at box rise. I'm a fan of the CROUCH but FABIO just keeps improving faster! Looks the goods from box 7 so is on top for me to win the Cup. LITTLE REGUS is 6/8 from Box 6 and watching his races, he's not a demon railer; tends to track mid to wide. Will stay out of trouble and swoop round the outer to win going away. Load up the double folks, then buy me a thank you drink at Manukau if ya there after Race 11
