And Club staff manning main doors to stands without a single fluoro jerkin loitering at bars, doors and behind every tree. Riccarton even worse and hence I will never go back there after last year's incessant "screening" as if I was a crim or ISIS member.

It was indeed Cox Plate Day.
Winx won. The only race I watched Live on TV.
Saturday I had Radio coverage of Pete  Earlys program.
I Relied on "Pictures being painted "as a race progressed.
    Audio.
     The marvellous race commentaries from
Mark McNamara , Aaron  White  and Sir Bruce SHERWIN  did that so well.

Replay their calls. Weren't they Colourful, accurate and with xcellent voice modulation?
On Sunday I  watched the replays. First time seeing and their calls were so accurate as to what was happening.
Aaron White at Ellerslie, with the rail out 10 metres. R 5 he spotted Crafty Jess .
Mark with his great calls  on Avantage, Ever Loyal.
Bruce Sherwin  had never called at Trentham.
( I did verify that tonight ,with him) .
    Bruce's  Sherwin's race calls ,
which are too seldom heard, are a blessing.

Yep stopped going a couple of years back. A group of us went to spend up large and walk out after they tried to charge 20 bucks a jug. At least pickpockets do it behind your back, these clowns try to pass it off as progress and slap you in the face with it while trying to fleece every last dollar out of you

I thought it was a great ride. It is suicide to sit on the fence at MV. He was on the best horse, and he was not going to leave it to chance. Humidor and the rest of the field could afford to take their chances by conserving energy staying on the fence as they were not going for 3 on end. I thought Hugh Bowman gave her the best chance by trading ground for safety, knowing he had the horse power under him. How many hard luck stories come out of MV sitting 1 back on the fence.

Her class saved some blushes for Hugh Bowman in my opinion as it wasn't the greatest of rides on the champion mare yesterday.
In an 8 horse field he had her three and four wide around the first bend before getting one off. At the 1000m he eased her out three wide without cover and from the 800m she was four wide before hitting the lead out wide at the 350m. She spent the majority of the race three and four wide without cover.
Meanwhile Blake Shinn was giving Humidor the prefect ride. On the fence for the first 1000m and then eased one out with cover and improved one out from the 800m before switching three out right behind Winx with 350m to run and then trying to get past her. That ride would have won most Cox Plates but the champion mare was not only class but also courageous after covering a lot more ground and she would not be denied, refusing to yield and Humidor had to settle for second, in what was the fifth fastest time for the race since it has been run over 2040m and the fastest this century.

I read a lot of foreign stuff about racing.  I read how the betting authorities in England were disturbed by the bookies' practice of reducing the odds on any horse vetted at the start.  What that means is that the deduction for a late scratching increases.
So imagine my surprise when I saw Chatauqua's odds slashed as he was backed out of the barrier to be vet inspected immediately before the start of the Manikato Stakes.  Yes he was a late scratching, and so the deduction from fixed odds bets on the winner were suitably increased.
They are not bookies; they are fleas.

    Hello nice option, ill try.
    1.  they will have a schedule in place.  The plan would have been to fly out to Melbourne presumably this week.
    2. Travel can be really tough on horses
    3. he travelled to hastings, (no race), travel to Caulfield underdone,  more travel for the horse, and connections may have had a schedule were the run in the livamol would have been designed to have him peaking for the Caulfield cup.
The costs are extraordinary to fly to Melbourne, race in the cup, then fly back.  It would not make sense to travel given the prep hasn't gone to plan, would be on a hiding to nothing and potentially cost the owners.
They realised that using a NZ programme, that they needed to have a plan B.  The plan B is to now target the emirates, 2000m at Flemington.  They will design a new plan.
I hope that explains why it is possible they wouldn't just go to matamata or somewere else, they are trying to stick to a plan which they might think gives the horse the best chance, considering travel, racing, recovery.

that's what I would assume anyway.

Mr Ellis should not be completely surprised by this anyway, he knew before hand it was a possibility.

Mr M Baker knw this too, well I think he did, and I think explains why he decided to prepare his horses in Australia.  Perhaps he felt over there it is easier to stick to plan a

Can someone answer this question for me, however simple it may be...
Why is it some important for Gingernuts to have contested the Livamol and, more importantly, why does having missed the race mean the Aussie campaign is over?
Couldnt they simply head back to Matamata (or find a track with decent footing) , get a few other nags and simply race Gingernuts really hard over 2040 metres, essentially replicating the race?
Now I realise that the opposition will be hard to get and will in no way replicate the field he would have met in the Livamol but im sure that Te Akau could pull a few strings in that regard by even looking within their stables.
It just seems to me that you are poutting alot of eggs into the basket if the Livamol is the make or break for an Aussie campaign.

I disagree with you Insider. GST is the best tax u need when you don't want tax. Everyone pays it according to their spending ability and habits. Jacking up PAYE is stupid. It doesn't help the economy - it pays for a bloated govt. The very reason Aust has so much govt debt. A bloated govt, high personal and company taxes and a  lack of spine to broaden the GST base. Labour want to make it even worse! It's in their DNA.

Yet another crazy decision , what needs to happen is the entire Saturday morning slot needs to be devoted to the weekends racing from 8am onwards.
The rugby or sports show on trackside radio (that takes up an hour slot, about 20 mins a week of that is on Stafs taste of music) has a prime time slot for what reason I have no idea.
You have punters in and out of TABs across the country at this time having to listen to a panel talk about the rugby or netball or warriors when they should be discussing the NZ racing content. It would surely help!

Disgraceful that Best Bets cant get off their arse and update Wednesday's Riccarton form for a Friday publication.
Over 30 horses involved, form not updated. Not good enough!! And the NZRB expect the public to buy their book and punt!!
Didn't happen when Bob Lovett and Mike Browne were in charge of Best Bets!
What do all that staff do at NZRB? Nothing but collect their pay packet.
You all at the NZRB should hang your heads in shame, especially you John Allen. Instead of your rehearsed propaganda program Home Straight,  concentrate on your domestic product.
You put the price up, yet cant update the form, otherwise employ others that are prepared to do the work.
I am pissed off I spent $6 for a book not up to date!

Well BB, smoking isn't illegal you correctly point out. But it is banned in many public places, school grounds, sports stadiums, on trains, buses etc. I can remember back when smoking was allowed anywhere! Including aeroplanes, movie theatres, buses, offices, etc. Now nearly all, if not all, Office Buildings are smoke free. So yes, not illegal. But neither is urinating. But urinating in a public place "is" illegal. Just ask Dover Samuels !
