I don't think there are words to describe what the connections might be feeling. High hopes and disappointments are part of the racing game but the latter can run very deep sometimes.

Problem I have is frontrunners nowadays. Yesterday year, most set a genuine pace, even put plenty of space on the rest of the field.

Now, it’s a rush to the front, then pull up, it stuffs up the race.

Poundforpound and other lovers of Ellerslie........
When they do the lateral drainage, attend to the overall surface of the track, rest it, and then space the racing next year it will be excellent.
They need to drop some of the meetings between October and March (maybe 3, possibly 4) so that the Carnival/Group Races are run on the best surface possible.
I can be be done or will be possible if they don’t continue to be greedy trying to attract the yuppie (for want if a better word) crowd, and run too many minor twilight meetings.

Nothing wrong with having faith in a horse.   I think considering the way Kawi jumped and the way he ran on in that slow track, he did good, he was making ground on them in the last 50m .. he's got a lot of heart that horse and he just runs the best he can, always, despite what anyone says about him, and I will never knock him for that, in fact I think he's a beaut horse.

Well they dont come much better than Lazarus"s win in last nights Hunter Cup. The race had it all and was magnificent to watch unfold. A burn off the gate and Tiger Tara headed by Shadow Sax. TT immediately pushes off the fence forcing Laz 3 wide (very similar to what Purdon did on U Machete in Perth and he got a month) Laz gets the breeze and then Soho T charges around to get the breeze with Laz in the one one. Not content with that Purdon pulls Laz out out after 600 meters and sits parked with a lap and a half to go. Second last 400 down the back in 26.8 as TT pours it on. Thought Laz may have been struggling a bit  but like a true champ he grabbed the bit and was challenging hard at the turn when he hit the lead. Last half 400 in 28 so half in 54.8 and he is there to be run down but NOWAY. He holds them all at bay smashing the track MR by a full second. AND not forgetting Heaven Rocks who moved up 3 wide from the 600 and stormed home for 3rd.
As Adam Hamilton, notable Aussie scribe said, Laz had no right to win the race what he had to  do and he believes it is his greatest winning performance. I would probably have to agree and it must put Laz amongst the very top elite of Australasian harness horses. And as a 5 year old he just seems to be getting better.
There was no walking or dictating from the breeze tonight. He did all the chasing and hard work and still lifted to win when needed. No flashy late sprints like Lord Module or Monkey King etc just pure  horsepower and a complete professional racehorse. A true Champ.
Well done LAZ and M Purdon. A pleasure to watch.

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: "'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am". The man below replied "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude".
"You must be a technician." said the balloonist. "I am" replied the man "how did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip with your talk."
The man below responded, "You must be in management". "I am" replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fucking fault!

I think the sale of racehorses and who gets a cut and from whom and what the owners know or don't know is one of the great areas of mystery in the world...
I know a few people who didn't know a horse was even sold, didn't get consulted, never knew the actual deal etc etc... Only a rort if you aren't in on it methinks

    Agree Insider.
I know when I had a horse with Te Akau, the 10% came out of the sale price. Also when you sign up to taking a share with them, there is clause that you sign agreeing to this.
On the other side of ownership with Te Akau, and I have experienced this on more than one occasion, if the horse did not come up to their expectations, a credit was offered to a generous value of the horse at the time, on a future purchase of another horse with them.
    Cheers.
    Robert.

Postings on here over the years would suggest many of us are a tad jealous of some of the people who win the decent races..........do you really want to see Tony J prancing around hugging all in Sundry , Karen F-E hugging and dancing with the strapper and the big syndicates hugging and kissing even tho they sometimes own a quarter of one-per cent.
and aren't we jealous of the Eric Watsons the Owen Glenns ,the rich listers in general or the lucky buggers that own a herd of champions including Lazarus etc ?
Oh , Sir Slicks owner....what a ? , and a host of other so and so's who change trainers or jockeys or sell their good horses to gain a few more $'s.
    Im unsure what we want.
A start to experience the thrill of racing would be to return to the track.....see it live.......get out of the padded cell and away from the keyboard.
Oh thats right......theres too much PC security ,the drinks are poor or too expensive , the sound system is crap , bird shit on the seats ,the musics too loud and you always get caught in the queue behind some old fool like me putting my 50 cents each way on at the wrong meeting....on a scratching.
Despite the sarcasm , I think the sound systems can be improved greatly and horses should be asked to parade in front of the people and do a preliminary !

This guy Veitch is just plain Toxic on many levels and a poor choice of promo flagship for Te Akau, Racing and the yearing sales. How on earth did he push himself forward again. Must have a persistent agent!

He was an incredible horse.  Scotty McGee used to look after him. I see from Trackside coverage he now works for Mike Moroney.  Staff were a key factor in Lee Freedman’s success. However. Super was a freak. He was by Imposing, a son of Todman. They were invariably bad legged and rarely saw a full racing career. So the fact He raced until he was 8yo and rarely missed a prep shows you what a genuine freak he was. I walked with him the afternoon before he won the Cox Plate and he was in a magic mood, hence he carried my money the next day, even though an 8yo had never won the race.  Super memories of a wonderful horse.

It's pointless comparing Callers from different era's. Same as it's pointless comparing Champions from different era's. (Eg, Sunline v Winx). You can only compare with what's around at the current time. If you're the best of your time so be it. In today's modern era, Peter Thompson probably wouldn't win a British Open Golf Title - but the record shows he won 5 - in his time. Same for Race Callers. Some are better than others, some get thru the fields more than others, some will be more eloquent. "One" of The best callers I have heard, was Bill Collins, "The Accurate One". He never relied on the camera to give a result. He always called it in the closest of finishes. He even called "Kingston Town can't win!" and was proven wrong - but that was his opinion during the running and I dare say most people watching agreed at the time - including me ! But there you go, nobody's infallible - not even me  Give the callers a break.
