The memories of the semaphore boards on the course listing drivers, riders, that had to be changed after every race, also the old tote boards, with the bands, and the balloon going up, my hasn't technology come along way, for the better? well that's a matter of opinion, hard to forget the good old days, things far less complicated.

Tony is one of the best race callers there has been in NZ..for him to be told to go is really sad, why could they not have just let him go after two years like the others are doing, he makes most of the ones they are keeping look 2nd rate...poor decision and I for one wish him well in whatever he chooses to do from here on...thanks for all the great calls over the years Tony and thanks for your lifetime of service to the industry.

Overcheck got a reaction from Palliser in Worst Drive Ever
The way I look at it Palliser is that the horse in front of her was under pressure, and she had a decision to make as to whether to wait and hope for a gap in time or go wide with a certain run. She may have done the wrong thing but theses drivers often have to make their decisions very quickly and it doesn't always work out. As a punter I would have been glad she did what she did with the certainty she would not be held up.

Didn't see the race. Haven't seen the race. But we know that 9 times out of 10 a drive/ride is seen as worse if the person concerned has backed that runner. That may well be because their eyes are glued on that particular horse throughout the run, thereby noticing the error of judgement but missing far worse mistakes at the same time.
The horse was paying $9.30 to win from a second line draw. Third could also be considered a fair result. Although I admit I might think differently had I of seen the race (who on earth watches all these non-event affairs at this time of year?) and especially had I actually backed the runner in question. Might have a look at the replay.
PS: have now watched the replay, and in retrospect I suspect she made the wrong decision, and that waiting for the passing lane would have been a better option. However, as said above, such decisions are made in a split second and not from the same angle as the camera showing us the race, and not with the knowledge of the final result. Crystal would have known approaching the home turn that she was travelling the best of the first 4, but looked in danger of getting held up with a wall of 3 horses in front of her. The parked horse had just taken over from Stickyfingers (the leader throughout) who was obviously struggling well before turning for home. She made the decision to get into the clear ASAP and not risk getting caught behind three runner that had done more work in the running than her horse. Sometimes a tired leader veers into the passing lane, so her move guaranteed her a clear run for the entire length of the straight. It didn't come off, but I don' believe it can be called "a shocker" either. The early pulling of the earplugs was strange.

We were all asked if we were happy to remain on the gate and continue rolling and everyone said yes. So the starter is not at fault. 95% of horses are better if they continue on as if they’re fired up allowing them to relax on the gate is much easier than trying to pull up a horse that was ready to race and then ask it to circle round multiple times and go again.

Andres horse was very fired up from the get go which is why there was a false start and once it couldn’t lead it over raced fiercely, hence why it was retired from the race. It showed similar  manners last time but settled before the gate went and was able to lead so relaxed. I wouldn’t blame either the starters or the stipes in the situation. And I think Andre said the false start fired it up not doing an extra lap it would’ve been equally as fiery if he had of had to circle round for another ten minutes

Gambling awarness week ended yesterday .... phew back to normal. What a stupid concept. The funds spent on a pointless exercise could have been diverted to better causes.I resent being told virtually that I have a problem and must pause every now and then to have a rest for a while  Bad luck if the pacer you have been following has finally got a good draw, the right driver,a weaker field and the right distance.and track. And is paying good money.... Gee I have to have a rest Does your horse win yes or no but youre not on it so what does it matter. It would turn you off more if it did win  from betting again... Having been a gambler for just 60years dont tell me to take a rest .....it just P.........s me off.

I can't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to race on their own all weather tracks, and it does provide variety.

Alrajah One was scratched from this race last year with a suspensory injury. This is his 1st race back off 2 qualifiers.  He is now 4-4 in North America and was timed in a race last year his last quarter in 25.3 which is good enough to beat many pacers.

He also bred to over 130 mares in Italy by way of frozen Semen and bred like 30 here as well. This horse stays healthy and he destroys the world trotting record for a mile which is a tick better than 1.49

you should be crucified for saying that .  Two of the best things still going on in Nz harness racing. The summer picnic grass track racing for all the family to enjoy . And the time honoured Nz Cup , Auckland Cup  , Dominionon Trot Handicap , Rowe Cup Handicap and Easter Cup. All over the 2 Miles stand !!!
they have sadly done away with 'Handicapping ' any runner s at all in those events, and done away with the Easter Cup altogeather ..... that's progress for ya ....
You would of seen some enthralling Nz Cups 34 + years ago in the 80's then (before you left)  ??  Armalight, Steel Jaw, Bonnie's Chance , Lord Module all streeting the field ,
and the great Hands Down v  Delightful Lady . How could you say to do away with that then? for a 'dime a dozen' mobile mile lol . drive a nail into your hand mate....

Don't really see your problem.     Damn near every sport has a handicapping system.       Harness races have raced for longer than I have been on this planet  however back a generation or two the punters accepted handicapping and treated it as just one factor in the equation when picking their fancy.    Why change the rules - look whats happened in the ball sports with all the rule changes.     Yes we all like to make an easy buck, but if that was possible the sport would not exist.      Incidentally regarding last weeks incident which the naysayers have been quick to jump at - the problem was not altogether the fault of the horses.
