    Hmmm

I remember at Manukau a few moons ago..a pair of littermates from leading kennel, one lower grade dog and other higher grade. Both successfully passed kenneling process, and first made it onto track and raced..finished unplaced. It was only when second dog was being race rugged and ears checked that error was discovered!!!!!!!

  5. My first recollection of seeing R.J.M.Smith in a Racebook was when attending my early Racemeetings at Alexandra Park.Ron was a Trainer/Driver based on his Rural Howick Property. Flashback to 20 July 1974,and it was the Final Day of Driving in the Career of Legendary Reinsman Maurice Holmes. For his momentous last race,he sat behind a battling old trotter named Transmitter Sound, trained by RJM Smith. As fate would have it,Ron got to welcome them back into The Winners Circle, and be part of this Racing History. Fast foward 25 years, and I got to meet Ron when I started attending Greyhound Meetings, where he was already enjoying success as an Owner/Trainer.As mentioned by other posters above,he was always such a nice person to converse with. As stated by Hound Fan,I also recall the day at the track in March 2007 when Thayne Green relayed the sad news that Doctors had given Ron 2-3 weeks to live, and his dog Paddy Flyin' had just been the quickest heat winner for The NZ Derby,to be run in a fortnight. It seemed 'touch 'n go' whether Ron would get to see his dog compete. Well,Derby was run and Ron had the misfortune to see Paddy take a tumble and fall. However,Ron's health took a turn for the better, and he got to see Paddy taste Group One Success later that year when winning the time honoured Waterloo Cup. And being such a determined character,Ron continued his Greyhound Successes for another 7 years... With such pedigree and racing blood in their veins,I shall look out for Sons John and Mark to keep the winners coming.
  6. Oh Yeah..Quick Cat to Ruakaka..and Big Marquee just past winning post.Remember an early trip up tested the 'Sea Legs' of many, and lots hitched rides home.Their mistake, was smooth as glass trip home, and heaps of extra dinner portions for gluttonous punters like me.
  7. Awesome sense of humour, very intelligent and talented, great storyteller and attitude to enjoy life. To use Lenny's own words only a week old.."I didn't get this fat by eating McDonalds.I ate the best you can eat.And I have already lived longer than the Doctors said I would.." A Special Mate, will be missed, but never forgotten.
  8. Not quite (yet!!!) Track Record 29.78 set by Miss Koonawarra in the Top Gun Invitational of 2008.(stake $40k) She was a 'wild card' selection, holding a winning sequence of 7,and fresh out of C1 ranks. Was one of five starters from The Fahey Kennels, led from box 6 and strolled home 6.5L,paying career best price $8.20.
  9. Thanks for interest shown. Dog no longer for sale. Regards,Geoff.
  10. THRILLING DYLAN: Male Dog..Bombastic Shiraz x Thrilling Gert (whelped July 2011) Lightly Raced.14 starts.1 win,6 placings. WInner Cambridge 457m (March 2014)..8.25L..25.84. Currently Racing in Central Districts. $2,500 Contact Owner:Geoff 021-956970
  11. "The Sky Fell In" on the $1.30 Fav.
  12. Well done Nadzeya..That's Really Clever..big congrats.
  13. As an aside,Geoff kept Miss Koonawarra as a Pet when her racing career was cruely cut short after only 17 starts(12 wins by total 95 lengths)She was fresh out of C1 when lining up in $40k Top Gun Invitational 2008,and it was in this race that she created the still standing track record. Believe me,Geoff was not waiting for 'Goody's' record to be broken. After a 4 year wait, she finally came into season, and was to be mated with a Bombastic Shiraz straw.Sadly she passed away recently.
  14. Oh No..how much such misfortune can one person encounter. A couple of years ago,Maxine disturbed burglars on her property, and was violently assaulted (offenders never apprehended). No one deserves to suffer such a brutal assault once, let alone twice. Trust scum that did this are swiftly caught, and receive the full punishment that law allows! So sorry for you Maxine.Hope time can heal all wounds.Kevin.
  15. I remember Daveyboy Scott had a grand CD Sprinter a decade or so back that had over 100 consecutive starts in C5 Ranks.
  16. Oh Dusty...Re-Read opening post = First In First Served. Poster #2 picked Blitzem Mayhem..then 4th poster (and Co-Owner) also picked same, before being told to have another pick! Then you post hours later and pick same..thus "Funniest post" jibe.lol
  17. Barker..are you 'playing with a full deck' lol. What part of FREE RACE DOG don't you comprehend!!!!!!!
  18. In The North Island Maybe..but In The South Island (Sefton) your punting is legendary.$50 shot every day I recall!!!

  21. I seem to recall that after the Park Rage non-race..when Brian semi composed himself..he used the classic line "Ah..fair suck of the sav" lol.
  22. For Trainer Jean Fahey,January 24 will always signify the day that her Sister Barbara Mathesonsmith lost her extended Battle with Cancer. When this cancer first reared its ugly head,Barbara relocated from Auckland to North Canterbury for both cleaner climate/and family support. When her health permitted, she carried out all the duties around the kennells, took Race Team to Addington, and handled dogs on track. When Jean/Dave took a rare holiday,Barbara also took Team to Hattrick. Thus when the field paraded to the start of tonights Opawa Racing Wellington Cup,handlers wore Black Armbands as a mark of respect in memory of Barbara. Racing Gods don't often deliver the best result, but on this occasion they obliged,as the Fahey Trained Brighton Bullet defied both a tough box and 5th favouritism to score an emphatic victory. The Kennell also sent 5 dogs to race at this afternoons Addington Meeting, and ALL Five also Won. A sentimentalist could be excused for believing that today The Whole Racing Team Ran Their Best For Barbara. Rest Peacefully.Barbara.
  23. 2001 SILVER COLLAR. Aqua Mouse..Sole Edition..zzz The Lion..Astro Teddy..1length covered first four home. A flying Astro Teddy held huge lead into back straight (similar to heat before gobbled up by zzz The Lion/Track Record),and Pete commented that surely he couldn't get beaten this time!!!! First 3 home hit finish line almost as one,and I think Pete's first word was "shit"!
