  1. Just watched this race and the whole field looked like they were in a trial running down the straight. The only one who showed any urgency was B Orange and then that broke when pushed. The track was obviously trickier than it looked and being maiden trotters they all were holding them together. Saying that R Allen made no effort to use the passing lane and at least look as though he was giving his horse a chance to close on the winner even if he wasnt going to make it. Not a good look when there was no opportunity given to the horse while held right up on the leaders back. As for the penalty, given he seldom drives even his own horses, he would not be missing many drives in the coming months. Interesting to note the horse was 5/4 in the betting.
  2. Yes prefer to watch a longer race myself as it gives a horse time to get into the race. However mile racing is what improvement in the harness breeding is judged by and hence makes stallions and broodmares a lot more valuable if they have a fast MR. As a comparison can you name the mens 10,000 meter, 1500 meter or 800 meter champions but everybody knows the fastest man in the world and that is over 100 meters. He is also far more marketable and much more wealthy. Mile racing is here to stay and will probably get more common in NZ as well ie The Jewels. Embrace it or there might not be much to bet on in the future.
  3. Yep in front of the TV but not over east live unfortunately. Hopefully a great race with a great time with two horses wanting to lead at all costs. Could be a 1.47 mile if they go to war which unfortunately is the only way I can see Laz winning. Never have thought of him as a sprinter so it will truly be a Miracle Mile if he can get up. Heres hoping for that miracle.
  4. Thankyou for all the participants in this post. It has set me up for the day. Havnt had such a good chuckle for a while reading them all
  5. Correct Brodie. I will take this as almost a withdrawal of opinions getting confused with facts. We are all entitled to unsubstantiated opinions but not such for facts. I enjoy your "opinions" some I agree with some a I dont as I am allowed. Cheers.
  6. So its not illegal. No big deal. Thanks for explaining that.
  7. Com on Brodie lets have a bit of rationality here. "A known fact by all owners" Well that is a straight out lie for a start. Do you know ALL the owners in NZ and Aus. 99% would never have tried to get ahorse in the All Stars barn so would have most likely have no idea if it could be done or not. A know fact Come on Brodster! Now listen hear. You made the statement so when challenged it is up to YOU to prove what you are saying is the truth and factual. You cannot twist it around just because you have no evidence and ask the opposite side of the question to prove that it isnt. Thats not the way slander, liable etc works. If a statment is made and challenged you either prove it correct or withdraw the claim. Otherwise you are deemed to be in correct. This is not the first time I have asked you to prove an outrageous and unsubstantiated claim and been met with silence or I have to prove what you are saying is incorrect. Just be cause Brodie says a "fact" is right, like when Jack the Ripper said he was innocent, does not mean what comes out of their mouth is correct. All I "damn well know" Brodie is that you dont deal in facts only your unsubstantiated opinions which you are entitled to make AS opinions but NOT facts.
  8. Can you prove this Brodie please with some facts. Easy to say such a definitive statement, but much harder to back it up eh!
  9. So he got fined for administering a serum within the holding period. Whats the big deal. There are many many legal products that cannot be administered within a 24/48 hrs holding period. Yes he broke the rules like MANY others have and got fined. Its not as thou he was giving a banned or illegal substance. If the horse had not had a trial the next day all would have been fine. He admitted his mistake, got fined now MOVE ON and stop this nonsense.
  10. Yes seriously. You made the comments and when taken on about them wont back them up. No mudslinging on my part. If your going to say derogatory claims at least back up when challenged.
  11. Brodie I am confused by your comments. All stables are loyal to their clients and place their horses to the best to maximize their earning potential whether it be in NZ, Australia, USA or Scandinavia. That is why many stables have the same clients year after year, because they are loyal to them. Your inference then is that R Dunn has not been good for the NZ harness industry because he took Master Musician to Australia many times and "plundered the stakes of major races" Just as many Australian horses have come over and won NZ Cups, Rowe Cups and many more races. Are they then disloyal in Australian Harness racing? I am sure this is not what you meant so I think you should rephrase your comments and also explain who you are referring to as being disloyal and give reasons why. "I know who is more loyal to NZ harness racing and does far more for the NZ industry" It is not good enough to make random unsubstantiated comments such as that one without proven facts and justification.
  12. Brodie what defines loyal to NZ racing and what does a person/trainer do to be unloyal. Who is it that you know is more loyal to NZ harness and who is not. Please explain your reasons for this loyalty so we can understand who we should shun as I have no time for disloyalty.
  13. I was not referring to having a poor level in supporting smaller clubs, to the contrary I think everyone applauds that he has horses at most meetings. It was the poor level of his business acumen that I was asking you about as I see it as Dunn having very good business acumen in that he places his horses to the best of their abilities and thats why he gets the results. A smart man. Also there is no mention in FTM post of the All Stars and there is absolutely no implied message that R Dunn has no business nous. In fact the opposite. Are you sure you are no just having ago at FTM as I know you two do not see eye to eye on most topics.
  14. Well I read it as a very good level as he places his horses very well. Thats what you stated earlier." Robert dunn supporting the smaller clubs week In week out' How do you read it as a poor level
  15. Sounds like the All Stars stable Brodie!
  16. Who has mentioned this FU. If you are referring to FToo Much I read in his comment that he was in fact saying that Dunns business acumen is such that he realizes where to place his horses for the best results which this season he is getting. In other words A Very Smart Man. Correct me is you and several others have read this another way somehow
  17. Incorrect. All betting agencies have issues from time to time. The WA Tabtouch which I use failed twice last year being unable to use fixed odds or get results paid out for over two hrs and then only dribs and drabs at a time. However they did place $20 in your account on the mon to compensate and did appologise.
  18. I hope so Iraklis and that he wins the MM. If he does so he will become the first to win the ID Hunter Cup and MM in the same season. Many have tried. all have failed SO FAR. I do have a worry over the mile thought with his lack of gate speed. When a speedster leads and runs them along as in last years MM he is vulnerable to a sit and sprint situation. Lets hope he can get parked or even the lead and grind them away to another record. Hence my comment re the Meadowlands where racing is almost all a mile. Rather that then Yonkers though ??????????? You are preaching to the converted just in case you hadnt noticed
  19. Whens the next 2 miler at the Meadowlands?
  20. Yes interesting comment. He did quantify it as well by saying that he was live at all the above you mentioned. I beleive he was justifying his praise by the time they ran and the amount of work Laz did in the run especially when chasing hard from the 800 to the 400 and then still be able to hold off the ones with softer runs. You are right there are many great performances to choose from and all involve massive staying efforts on track record times.
  21. Well they dont come much better than Lazarus"s win in last nights Hunter Cup. The race had it all and was magnificent to watch unfold. A burn off the gate and Tiger Tara headed by Shadow Sax. TT immediately pushes off the fence forcing Laz 3 wide (very similar to what Purdon did on U Machete in Perth and he got a month) Laz gets the breeze and then Soho T charges around to get the breeze with Laz in the one one. Not content with that Purdon pulls Laz out out after 600 meters and sits parked with a lap and a half to go. Second last 400 down the back in 26.8 as TT pours it on. Thought Laz may have been struggling a bit but like a true champ he grabbed the bit and was challenging hard at the turn when he hit the lead. Last half 400 in 28 so half in 54.8 and he is there to be run down but NOWAY. He holds them all at bay smashing the track MR by a full second. AND not forgetting Heaven Rocks who moved up 3 wide from the 600 and stormed home for 3rd. As Adam Hamilton, notable Aussie scribe said, Laz had no right to win the race what he had to do and he believes it is his greatest winning performance. I would probably have to agree and it must put Laz amongst the very top elite of Australasian harness horses. And as a 5 year old he just seems to be getting better. There was no walking or dictating from the breeze tonight. He did all the chasing and hard work and still lifted to win when needed. No flashy late sprints like Lord Module or Monkey King etc just pure horsepower and a complete professional racehorse. A true Champ. Well done LAZ and M Purdon. A pleasure to watch.
  22. Will be a great nights viewing. All good races with plenty of chances. Word on the street is Red Hot Tooth will be leading at all costs so your Spur is going to have to do it tough. Lets hope he is put in the race early to be able to outstay them. And I hope you are a stayer as well tonight Iraklis.
  23. Thanks for that. With a moniker like Eclipsed you would certainly know. Did you follow Eclipse the horse or perhaps did you even own it?
  24. Yes indeed the memories Was at Addington 1973 for the NZ Derby (I think)with two mates down from training in Wellington just for the races. Eclipse trained and driven by DD Nyhan scooted 5 lengths clear at the 400, much to the shouting of my mate who had followed it and backed it to pay for the weekend. Then at turn ran off heading for the stables. My mate was livid. The race was won by Koarakau driven by RP Nyhan and Kawerau Gold was third. Later that night I remember backing the trotter Mighty Dollar for $10 a place. That was a big bet for a young lad and my biggest of the night. Paid $7.70 for third so my $77 was a fortune. I think we paid around $32 return airfares from Wellington and stayed at my parents place. So at least I paid for the weekend. There were a lot of very good and even horses racing in that period, well my memory tells me that anyway!
  25. Unfortunately not this week, will be at the local having a few cold frothies and watching but hope to get there next week for the WA Pacing cup.
