  1. Is there anyone not using there stallion noms this year? Intrested in selling ?
  2. Outright Winner-New Zealand Jockey Premiership 2022/23 Wiremu Pinn41.00
  3. Then I read this Monroe still making a mark at mares’ sale DECEMBER 3, 2017 More than a thousand horses, the majority fillies and mares, have been catalogued to go through Tattersalls’ ring at the December Sale over the four days from the 4th to the 7th of the month. Most are either broodmares already or will be bought with a future breeding career in mind. The most number of winners produced by any broodmare in the catalogue is 14, a score reached only by the trio of Fanfreluche, Welsh Garden and Monroe. Monroe wasn’t a champion, but like the other two prolific broodmares, she had plenty of ability. A $300,000 yearling purchase by Robert Sangster and trained by Vincent O’Brien, Monroe was by Derby winner Sir Ivor but was all speed; at two she was second in the Phoenix Stakes, while her biggest win came as a three-year-old in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown over five furlongs. Monroe was bred to be above average – her brothers Gielgud and Malinowski won the Champagne Stakes and Craven Stakes respectively – and, as a daughter of Best In Show, she was bred to excel at stud too, her dam also producing those other fine broodmares Sex Appeal (dam of El Gran Senor and Try My Best), Blush With Pride (grandam of Belmont Stakes winners Jazil and Rags To Riches) and Minnie Hauk, ancestress of several top winners in the Niarchos colours, including Irish 2000 Guineas and Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Spinning World. Monroe’s 14 winners came from 18 foals of whom 17 raced. A couple of her foals, Masterclass and Diese, were Group 3 winners in France, but the pick of her offspring was Xaar, Europe’s top two-year-old of 1997, when his wins included Prix de la Salamandre and the Dewhurst Stakes, races also won by his sire Zafonic for Xaar’s owner and trainer Khalid Abdullah and Andre Fabre. As a foundation mare for the Juddmonte operation, Monroe is present in the pedigrees of other top winners in the Abdullah colours. Senure, a son of Diese, won the United Nations Handicap and Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship, while Xaar’s sister Silver Starbecame grandam of the champion US older filly Close Hatches whose sister Lockdownfinished third in this year’s Kentucky Oaks. Half-brothers Bated Breath (now a good young sire for Juddmonte) and Cityscape, one a top sprinter and the other a top miler, also trace back to Monroe who is their great great grandam. Their dam Tantina is also the grandam of Suffused, the 2016 E. P. Taylor Stakes runner-up who won a couple of Grade 3 contests at Gulfstream Park early in 2017.
  4. Diomed just had a quick look at your broodmare and stallion choices, without the expertise and not going back further than 5 generations plus not delving into the pedigrees, i notice a lot of Northern Dancer. Cotai Glory 4s x4s x 5d x 5d.. Camacho 3s x 5d x5d. Scissor Kick 4s x5s x5d and the broodmare 5s x 5d . Obviously there is some reasoning and as you have explained the matching up the broodmare to the sires and you have spent a lot of time analyzing the pedigrees, but is Northern Dancer never to much.?
  5. Well diomed you have got me. I would like to know how to use your expertise? and won the inaugural running of the Derby in 1780. My only problem is the comment (test-mating foal have the ingredients that in the past have produced good runners. Of course there is variability in breeding. You can have good ingredients and a bad result.) The best commercial stallions get the best race performed horses does this not bias the results ?
  6. I see now SavetheShire what you are saying the broodmare Moldovian she only 18 ?
  7. SavetheShire I have no idea what you are showing this is some breeding chart of a mare. Not the sire born 2016 in Ireland Circus Maximus (IRE) 2016 sire
  8. Not true because the breeding buffs have generations of info at there disposal. That's why they do it, we can all say after the facts yes savabeel a good sire etc. That's why his stud fee is $100 k. Yes I agree it is hypothetical but does the pedigrees stack up to all the Nick's and inbreeding outcross etc that the breeding buffs spend all the time on.
  9. Diomed you seem to be very knowledgeable in this subject indeed. When breeding we all have to make a choice in the end, there seems lots of ideas how to do it. I have the utmost respect for breeding buffs and of course a lot charge for that knowledge and advice. But I think Louie Cullen in this case is looking for suggestions and ideas of a stallion for his mare. I dont have any shares or associations with any studs. We could go round and around with merits of breeding etc but if I'm not wrong he's looking for a sire and name he can look into and make a decision. You look like you have a vast knowledge in this, is Circus Maximus a good choice or not, even I'm intrested in this and what sire or sires would you recommend.
  10. Looking e Nick's. Circus Maximus triple A+++ Based on
  11. Shocking looks a very good match in fact G1 20/20 match and they going very well at moment
  12. Cambridge race dates 31 Aug, 14 and 28 Sept, 12 Oct, then 17 May what happens from Oct to May .?
  13. I was looking at this cross with mating my mare with Noverre this is part of the reply from stud (Semipalatinsk who looks to add a speed component to the cross. There is a 5 x 5 cross duplication via his daughters and we can see he has combined in a pedigree with Savabeel in this manner to produce five runners of which four have become winners and one a Group winner) Blue Army
  14. Or does a nick need to be different sires .?

  16. The mating of Probabeel to Almanzor. Is this a case of putting the best to the best we have in NZ, that we have seen in a lot in the past. Or is the some nick or cross for picking the sire ?
  17. But you would think he couldn't be more expensive than ZED at $6k. I was hoping someone with pedigrees knowledge would give insight.. Without promoting or knocking the horse, or do they only do that once runners on track proving there theory.
  18. No breeding buffs on pedigree. Nick's.? This site a bit slow these days.
  19. Any thoughts on him. What the stud fee going to be.
  20. Good to see the people in Wainuomata rally to protect there rights and property.
  21. Why was Ryan Elliot suspended and fined. What was the offence?
  22. I met Rick at trentham sales a long time ago he was buying a horse to win the 2yo million dollar race at trentham on behalf of a guy who had just discovered, the hills on farm was made of iron ore. Instant millionaire they bought a horse, and I took them to Wellington to party, we finished up at some posh hotel Rick had very expensive taste wine top shelf etc. The poor guy who was multi millionaire asked me is there any chance I could just get a normal NZ beer to try, i got him a pint of lion brown, is face lit up when he had a sip said the best drink he had had since arriving with Rick. But i didnt have the heart to tell him the breeding of the horse he bought would never win a 2yo race. We went to trentham races the following day, trentham made him a special guest and he dragged me along no expense spared. During the day I mentioned to him I think the press are saying you are bankrupt. His reply do I look bankrupt and we went on to part all night in Wellington what a character and hard case. R.I.P.
