I was just about to write about this race after watching it.

He clearly anchored himself for 2nd in his Trifectas and First Fours.

If he doesnt get an extended holiday for that I dont know why we even have Stipes. Should be many months minimum. He's a serial offender and its about time the stipes did something about it

see your point but not sure I entirely agree. Yes drivers need to show urgency but having a driver move around lots in the sulky is perhaps not the way to get the best out of a horse. Some of the best drivers going around keep very still in the sulky, from my perspective I really like this as it keeps the horse even in it's gate and pace cleanly. Comes down to balance and i don't think this was the case with this drive on Monday.

Re the whip, Edward Rennell was quoted on Wednesday last week that the day will one day come when there will be no whips. Well that day will be the last day I ever bet on harness. It will be far to easy to hook horses and far too hard to prove that horses were hooked, it will be the death nail for the industry in my opinion unless owners are happy to be racing for ribbons only and no stakes.

Totally unfair to suspend him. It wasnt as if he was in a proper speed dual and chasing the horse up. The gaps didn't open up in the field so the other drivers weren't to concerned at the tempo they were running. More of a case on the hose being in a feild too strong for it and then ending up keen while in the worst postion. The rui should have a lot to answer for the stipes consistency and countless obvious mistakes lately Especailly in the north .it's turning into a joke. Friday night at Cambridge was one of the worse causes of incompetences and the chair stipe decided to go for a lessor charge because the initial charge could have a heavy penalty. Surely that's not teaching anyone and is a complete turnoff for punters.

Actually, it kind of is. The JCA reports mentions the prosecuting Steward Mr Mulcay basically went with a reduced/lesser charge as he thought the penalty for an improper driving charge would be too severe.

Yes and the JCA thought the charge to be sufficient to determine guilt and therefore upheld the charge. The power is in the hands of the JCA they could of dismissed the charge of evidence was insufficient.
Im my opinion the suspension was warranted and the term appropriate- what isn't appropriate though was the pathetic JCA imposed penalty on Robert Argue, he should of also got a couple of months..... This isn't the fault of the stipes though

I agree with the Precious Moment comments, it cost me a decent collect, and it was pure incompetence on the part of the driver, Robert Argue was lucky to get away so lightly with his suspension, at least Jimmy Curtins wasn't deliberate. I never had another bet after that race, I also can't believe he was waving his whip in the air as they crossed the line, surely he must have known he was in big trouble.

Cambridge one was a shocker Especailly as there was no attempt to move away from the markers even tho there was more than enough room to.
Classic example of should never celebrate before the post!

hsvman got a reaction from Justitia in Auckland - $400 per starter?
Auckland are trying to make it so that every horse no matter what ability will be able to earn some money each week/start. , at the moment a lot of horses go around week to week struggling to get a cheque say 1 in 5 starts or worse and sometimes when the battler horse finally runs a place they only end up with around $300 . Their aim is to increase both these starter payments and stakes in the future , small steps tho be patient . I'm sure you've owned or most people have owned  a lot more battling horses than good ones so your average loss on a horse will be less than what it has been in the past. With such low horse numbers in the north they needed to try something to either keep most horses and trainers in the game. Racing for the higher stakes they have tryed but so many horses people couldn't compete or earn a check so either sold or sacked those horses and a lot of hobbie trainers which used to make up a fair chunk of feilds have given the game away. Which means less starters less turnover. Those trainers may or may not return but at least with this payment to every horse and train may keep more poeple in the game.if as many trainers and and owners leave the game in the next ten years at the past ten years there only be about 30-40 racing each week.at least Auckland is trying something different rather than sitting back and watching racing fall apart.

Yes I too was amazed and disappointed with Allstars. Yes it maybe the owners decision but as you say Wanna - a real kick in the guts. Guess if Smolda wins tonight he will get dragged again.
I thought Blair Orange made the wrong choice in leaving Allstars but I am sure now he made the right one when things like this happen.
Loyalty counts highly but apparently not at Allstars or maybe with the Dunfords.
I have always been one of Allstars biggest fans but they lost a lot of respect with this

hsvman got a reaction from Alittlebitofknowledge in Stipes consistency / do they really watch races ?
Is there any consistency in the north with the stipes or do some weeks they want to use the rules and others looks straight past them? Last week one driver gets fined for starting from the incorrect barrier . Then last night 3 drivers just get warned for the same thing. One  clearly made sure they weren't following the horse the were meant to be following out. Stipes need to be more consistence otherwise it makes a joke of the system. Last week they missed and absolute shocker of a drive towards the line that was as plane as day for every punter to see and never even got a mention in the stipes report

Am I missing something here? The horse was given the perfect run and had every chance.  Did not get 2nd but 2nd last.    How could you possibly complain about that?      It appears you want him to start team driving by pulling out to let his stablemate through when there was only room for 1 horse?

Regman may or may not be right but we will never know anytime soon due to the RIU policy of keeping everything a big secret when it comes to announcing positives.    Their policy while clearly an attempt to limit any negative publicity, only leads to the    conclusion that there is something unsavory going on in this industry which is best kept out of the publics eyes.

hsvman got a reaction from rangi in New Points System?
Unless it's black and white itll be no different , ATM Kevin smith and Andrew Morris I think talk it over and decide per horse but by the looks. It's up to their discreation , originally they said points would be added for wins , 2nd 3rds and 4ths no changes and then any place 5th or further back . All horses that qualify start at 50 pts. But looking at a few horses rankings maidens that have placed seem to be above the 50point mark. There's maidens horses currently ranked higher than horses that have had two or more wins in the last season . If it was a black and white formula this would not happen .

Happy Happy sunrise please get real, Anderson give Titan Banner to Purdon and publicly stated why with the travel and intent to get the best out of the hore, are you like Brodie saying that Junior has been given to Dunns as either owner taking the horse off Butt or to improve it please oh please it is common sense it has been to done on the intent to give Dunns another winner, no different to Dalgety getting gifted winners from other trainers and it was pblic knowledge one of Dalgetys winners on the final day never ever stepped onto Dalgety property
I have nothing against Dunns but did hope the TAB could run a book on this premiership but no wonder they cant when horses randomly change stable to assist one or possibly both stables,i would like the premiership to be won on it merits not given horses in final weeks to win it
Iagree the Dunns deserve to win a premiership and they race far more many horses than anyone else and work hard , but why begrudge Purdon/Rassmussin winning it with their own horses all season and winning 4 x as much money, why do people moan about Purdon/Rassmusin? because they win so much money for their owners and maximise their return? aren't they doing the best for owners instead of racing 20 start maidens and one win horses for 6k?

Don't follow Auckland races much, only the Tuesday type races or the grass tracks.   Auckland with their dominant stables and small fields just too boring.      But  to name just a handful did I not read where T Grayling,S Hunt,S Argue and G Rogerson were not about this season. Could be wrong and they may still be going. Sure there would be a lot more who had not made the  papers.         Don't think anyone is knocking the atc attempts to run races.  Just some appear to lament the lack of importance some at the atc put on the racing side of things. Others know more about it than me.                           Hsvman has hit the nail on the head when he questions why the horses you mentioned should run for lower stakes. I'm guessing it is because those horses have owners, trainers who have little voice, despite being the life blood of the sport.    Still cant understand why they would trial a points system somewhere where they have cut back the number of meetings due to  lack of horse numbers . Do they want it to fail?

What is the start crews / crash crews job?
In my opinion it is to help horses before the start and to assist if there is an accident. Once the barrier strands are released, then the race is on and they should have no influence on the race.
So when a horse plays up at the start and goes to turn around in a standing start after the tapes are released in my opinion they should not interfere. It is unfair on the rest of the field for them to assist this horse it is not their job. I would call it an out side influence. If a trainer can not educate the horse to begin from a stand then it should  not be there.
