hsvman got a reaction from tonkatime in Who decided on the 10 hit whip rule????
Hrnz try to be proactive instead of reactive to the animals rights people but as your say it's a backwards step and a lot of people will start putting there punting dollars elsewhere. Over summer on the grass tracks there will a few poeple getting charged with this new rule and that will Help the animals rights people as they will see a lot more excessives use charges and even tho it's not as bad as a current excessive use charge they'll still see that wording and want to dig there knifes into the harness game.

If you watch on the up close replay they have just after the race, the camera was right on him and he never hit the horse he waved the whip to make it look like he hit the horse but if u watch closely and can clearly the whip it never touchs the horse.so of the hit actions were going up wards and they last few were were just short downward motions as if to make it look like he was trying. Just look  his left hand and you will see hes had a very strong hold of the reins as well  . Had he left it run to the line not under a hold it wouldve won hitting it or not hitting it.

Seems odd that when's he's running 5th or 6th in a race there's more vigour trying to run a place. I know the handicapping system doesn't help horses like this but deliberately not trying to  is a disgrace and shouldn't be tolerated as long as it has been. Makes the game harness game look to dodgy to be true.

The first case from manawatu should've been dealt with well before there was a chance for the second one last night to happen. Both absolute shockers and just shows how weak/slow and how little   Respect the stipes and jca have for punter confidence. The have all. The equipment and videos needed on a given race night to deal with a case which involes something that happens in a race on the night yet they waste time and punter confidence by delaying these cases. The whole riu systems is becoming a joke with recent happenings and needs a clean out for the good of the industry.

you are dreaming! he raised that whip in the air in defiance, name me another race at cambridge where the driver holds his whip straight up to the sky, then makes some  mock gestures with it before deliberately and visually tucking it under his arm 50m of the finish line? i wonder why he has been charged again? the stipes must have been wrong?

Industries should generally look after their customers   first and not be overly worried about the opposition. Our customers are the betting public and and opposition is the animal rights people. If we let the opposition get their way it will turn our betting public away and will be the end of racing. The whip rule at the moment would be lucky to have 50  fined a year and when you consider how many horses go around throughout the year it would be way less that one percent of total runners fined for whip use. The new rule they are bringing in in the first of December will see the number of drivers charged go up which then plays into the hands of the opposition as they will see a lot more excessive whip rule charges and will then call for a total ban on whips. You give people and inch they will take a mile you watch how quickly they'll push for a ban on all racing if our leaders keep giving into to a small groups request.

How does Ricky may get fined $500 dollars for excessive use of the whip in the ffa when the rules state if you have a rein in the whip hand those strikes don't count. ? He never crossed the reins by the looks of things so each could strike should not have counted ! Clearly the stipes and jca make rule to suit them selves when they want?

How does her attacting for the team make sense or help the team. when her  more favoured stablemate was 3wide while she was making the record pace ? She drove the race to suit her horse and get the best result for the owners , if she wanted to help mark shed have let him get to parked without having to work extra. She new she had the best stayer and made it a truly run race rather then a walk a sprint. In hindsight had tony handed up to her  hed have had a cold shot at them as if she left mark 3 wide im guessing shed have left him parked also. As she did last year in the same race. There not team driving in terms of sacrificing one to benifit another. They clearly just have better  horses , big race drivers, and training skills they have them peak when it really counts .

Your an idiot there , theres no way the need to sacrifice one to benifit the other . Natalie attack the leader and left mArk 3wide  on a national record time . No team driving what so ever , and if u thnk that  u should give up. They were both were way better that the north islander whos trainer talks a big game but delivered such little

I agree , the all stars don't really need to sacrifice anyone as their horses will stay on better than most  , I also get sick of people claiming that he gets to buy all the top priced horses  a lot of his better  performers are not the highest priced yearlings  ,  he's got the best eye for a horse out there and can see what most of the others can't , instead of knocking him learn from him ! hats off to Mark Jones who said as much in print a few weeks back , he's changed the way he's working his juveniles and at this stage he's competing in the early 2 yr old hit outs  , only the weak give up !!!

Give me one instance when a Mark Purdon runner was "used as a sacrificial lamb" - yes they assist each other but that is done by many stables. In the old days there were many examples of using a sacrificial lamb by the Purdons but not by Mark - do not understand why you are so bitter re M Purdon and would make up such nonsense.

Amazing that they took days to charge the guy. His intentions couldn't have been much more obvious in the home straight!
In the last decade he's driven 9 winners and 53 placings. It's pretty obvious what is business plan is!

Bit tough to criticize them just because they take a bit of time to build a case, not looking good for martin though.  What did wayne higgs get for a similar drive at manawatu a few years ago?  Maybe martin will take a lead from higgs and claim  he strained a muscle which prevented the use of the whip?     What about race 5 at Auckland.  Z butcher hits the wheel of a horse that supposedly moved out a bit.  Ive watched this several times and cant see why this explanation was accepted.
