  1. Bullshit. Simple fact is if they had really had her best interests at heart, she would have been retired in Australia and this doesn’t happen. Nick Beshara and others sold out because they didn’t agree either. Kheir and Sokolski made that decision. There was nothing to be gained by going to Europe, it did nothing for her reputation or rating, which went down. Greed and egos pure and simple.
  2. Correct Pegasus. If this wanker had listened to Chris this would never have happened because she wouldn’t have left Australia. Crocodile tears from a bloke who thought he knew better….. https://www.racing.com/news/2024-02-19/news-lth-owners-mourn-verry-elleegant?utm_source=rdc&utm_medium=edm&utm_campaign=racing.com
  3. Waller wanted to retire her Stodge, he understood her better than anyone. After the Melbourne Cup win she had nothing else to prove…..and had put over $14m in connections pockets, which wasn’t enough apparently. No need for her to go to Europe and plenty of quality stallions here for her. I bet Waller is seething privately that his advice was ignored.
  4. https://www.racenet.com.au/news/melbourne-cup-hero-verry-elleegant-dies-20240218 Just awful news to hear we have lost the great mare and, it seems, her foal……… We weep with you James and Chris, she will never be forgotten.

  8. A furious Ciaron Maher said he was at a loss as to Craig Williams’ tactics on his hot $1.26 favourite Jimmysstar, who led up before being run down by $151 winner Makram at Flemington on Saturday. “Craig just had an absolute brain fade,” Maher said after the race. “I don’t know why he did that. That was not the plan. It has never been discussed. “It (plan) was ride comfortable wherever he lands back in the field, like he does every start. “A very, very poor ride. Just stupid. “I don’t know why he would do that and that’s all I can say. He’s ridden the horse before.” Jimmysstar jumped well from barrier 10 of 12 but instead of drifting back to find a position as he had in his three previous Australian starts, Williams pressed on with the horse eventually taking the lead. He travelled well enough but could not shake off his challengers on the home turn and after finally shrugging off Savannah Cloud, he was left a sitting shot for a charging Makram. Part-owner John O’Neill said connections were surprised to see Jimmysstar in front. “The horse has never led in his life,” O’Neill observed. “Craig made a call and said they went a lot harder at the start than what he thought. “He went forward and had the chance to go back and take a little breather in behind the pack and obviously he thought he was an on a $1.20 thing and could just go across and lead. “Completely foreign territory for the horse, Disappointing for the punters and the owners and I know Ciaron is pretty annoyed and frustrated. “To Craig’s credit he came back and apologized. He said I made a blue with the ride.”

  21. In her last start she finished 6th behind Atishu at Flemington, didn’t help her much there did it ? My point is she has had issues previously and the on set of laminitis appears to have become apparent in Australia and progressively worsened. The daughter of Proisir developed a foot issue and has undergone treatment at a rehabilitation centre, however, a veterinary examination spelled the end to her racing career, with a focus now turning towards a breeding career for New Zealand’s reigning Champion Middle Distance horse. “The mare has developed a foot issue following her return from Australia,” vet Greg Quin said in a statement. “Initially the mare showed signs consistent with a mild foot bruising. She appeared to respond well to management changes and returned to the stable with a view to return to work. Due to persistent signs of some increased heat in the left fore foot, and very low-grade discomfort she transitioned to a local rehabilitation centre. “As signs of increased heat in the left front foot, survey radiographs were obtained. These showed that there has been a shift in her pedal bone position consistent with laminitis over the last few weeks. Due to the degree of changes present in the left foot, the mare will require a period of specialist farriery treatment and rehabilitation. “Once changes of laminitis have developed to this degree, it is very uncommon for horses to return to the stresses of racing. “Her response to treatment will be monitored closely over the next weeks and months and the current aim is to restore her foot to a condition that will set her up for a breeding career.”
