No doubt Ohokaman, but I'm more interested in why Thad didn't want to talk about the bet rather than the horse's turn around in form as usually they are quite bullish about saying so and so has had a bet of such and such placed on it.

As I said I thought it was strange at the time.

Nice to see a horse get up when someone does have a go.

rdytdy got a reaction from Ashoka in Pewter
Pewter hasn't won a race since his second start two years ago Ashoka. He is also a rising 8yo but is only lightly raced having had just 15 starts to date.Interestingly ten of those starts have been at Trentham and he has been in the money in five of them with a win and four placings, all on wet tracks. He has had the four starts at 1400m for that win and another placing (another 50/50 percentage).

If you want to look at plusses for him tomorrow then they are,  1. He strikes a heavy track. 2. He is droping in grade from R75 last start to a R65. 3. He also carries a half kg less in weight. 4. He has two gear changes, ear covers going on and more importantly a tongue tie being applied (he may have been getting his tongue over the bit etc) 5. He has drawn wide on that heavy track.

So if you do like him Ashoka those are the factors I can find to consider him and you wouldn't need much on as he should be paying plenty.

My attention however will be taken by Bishopbriggs as I am currently racing a half sister to him by the name of All Razzle Dazzle. He is lightly raced having only had the four starts, running second in his first two and winning well at start number three in July of last year. He resumed eleven  months later at Waverley where he got back in the running and was still well back turning in and being pushed along. He wound up very strongly the last 200m and nothing finished better than him as he charged home into fifth.

That run should have improved him no end and he steps up to 1400m here. He carried 59kgs that day and after the 3kg claim tomorrow comes in nicely with 55.5kgs. The only concern would be the very heavy track which will be badly cut up by the end of the day. However he does have ability (as does his half sister) so i will apply the double L factor with him. Logic and loyalty.

    Good luck Ashoka.

Maybe one for the get out stakes in the last Cubes.

    Howzat

Six starts, five in the north and one in the south and never been placed. However,  his first start in the south at Ashburton was a pretty good run for eighth. He was last turning in and was making ground well when he ran out of room and had to switch down to the inside finishing 3.5 lengths from the winner. By Sir Peter he should appreciate the step up to 2100m and should be at good odds.

Should be some good viewing this afternoon with Matamata races and the ABs playing Manu Samoa.

Not sure if I will get over to Matamata as I have just picked up my new pinstripe suit from Luigi. It's made from french silk  and as I swayed like a king I did a little oompa loopa dance. I said thanks mistaar and and I'm now off on my road trip.

    Have a good day.

What a performance put up by Craig Phelan and Emily Farr at Te Aroha this afternoon.

Craig training four winners Bahhton, West End, Notabadrooster and Worthiswaitingold with all four capably ridden by Emily Farr. Two over hurdles and two on the flat.

    Fantastic achievement, congratulations to both.

Incidentally the jockeys that rode there today were very happy with the track that was presented.  Some very good competitive racing today and a good day for all concerned.

Want some afternoon entertainment then get along to Te Aroha today.

Kicking off at 12:05pm a nine race card with five jumping races and four highweights (last race 4:24).

A heavy 10 track with the rail out 7.5 metres there is plenty of jumping action plus you will get to see the Great Northern Steeplechase favourite Amanood Lad have a run on the flat in R5.

Runners from from the top jumping stables of Dummy Myers and John Wheeler will be in action and the place will erupt if the local Waitoki Ahi can win the maiden steeplechase R6.

The day dawned cloudy but that has gone and now we have a brilliant blue sky. There will be music playing out the front of the owner/trainers area so get in early and grab one of the outside tables there which provides great viewing of the horses in the birdcage and is also right next to the totes.

See you there and good punting.

That no try gifted the Highlanders 7 points right on half time so they went in with an 8 point lead. The margin at full time.....Highlanders win by 7 points and the video ref probably thinks he's done a great job. There has to be some accountability by these blokes. It is not the only completely idiotic decision by video refs in the competition, there has been some absolute clangers. You have to wonder what they are on.

Ardie Savea was sorely missed and don't mention about Julian Sava bombing a certain try. Unbelieveable.

George will be fine if he can put the work in.

Sunday mornings if he gets out to Anne Brown's and puts in a couple of hours up and down and around the hills on her property building stamina and strength he will find the Auckland Half should go well. Another long undulating run midweek 1 hour 20-30 plus the shorter recovery runs during the week then he can do it.

Prepartion, perspiration and inspiration Georgie. You can do it!!

I don't follow the form down there too much Cubes but a former Northerner having her second start in the South may be worth a nibble.

    R4   10   Soviet Song

The 1200m was too short for her fresh up and the step up to 1400m will suit better. She has won and placed in her two second up runs and a dead track also suits. She is down 1.5kgs from last time and Sam Wynne stays with her.

    Good luck.

Always good to see someone have some success (especially when unexpected). E-mail from the owner of Cullch Forty Five and with his permission:

    Subject: Cullch45 Winner

Well the unexpected happened today at 2.22pm.  To most of NZ race followers a huge shock  Cukllch45 came from last into the corner under a very hard ride to get up & win by a long neck.  A long sustained run to get the chocolates in just his 3rd start at incredible tote odds.  The distance of 1230m was far too short for him but fresh up he coped very well showing some of his mothers speed.

    Fixed:   Closed $151 to win & $26 a place .
    Tote:  Paid $79.30 a win and $17.70 a place

I ran out of time to travel down to watch him as I got busy with a Mens urinal leak(not mine)  & decided not to rush down to watch him come down the track.  I did have a feeling though that  he might show something like his close freshup 2nd on Boxing Day at the Pirongia trial & so it was.
He’s always worked well but was either too weak, not trying or tracks didn’t suit….or all of the above.  He’d had 11 trials since a 2 yr old and today was only his 2nd run on a rain affected track.   We were always hopeful as racing folk are although the trainer was scratching his head at times.  Cullch45 even got his hurdle ticket last year as he tried to mix up his work.

Patience personified gets it’s just reward.

We’re now hoping he goes on with it & being by a staying sire in Duelled & with a win under his belt we can start planning the rest of winter & getting him over more ground & maybe into a Saturday race

Regards my betting, Well I ended up with over $600 from just $5 on the fixed win odds at the time $101 & $5 a place BUT I managed 13.88% of the Pick 6 or $16,500 so that was brilliant.
I took no other multis like trifectas, quaddies etc  because I was not expecting him to run like that.

So the message is, they’re only animals, they can’t talk & tell you how they feel,  If you like them then put something on them regardless of their price…or regardless of what the trainer or anyone says.  Occasionally, today will repeat itself.

Cheers & thanks for the best wishes….Many other around NZ have shared this excitement with us !!
