  1. Caulfield track was never going to suit him. Glen Boss (Who Shot Thebarman) 13th: "He got into a good spot but he just can't corner this horse. He couldn't corner at Flemington so he didn't corner here very well."
  2. Sounds good. Well done Leigh. Looking forward to it.
  3. If Rising Romance had of held on Pogo it would have been rated one of the sensational Caulfield Cup rides of all time. From her draw just look where the filly is placed in the running. On the fence right behind the leader with a round to go. The leader ran out leaving a huge run on the fence which Rising Romance shot through. Might have been nicer if the leader hadn't done so until a wee bit later but James had to take the opportunity that was presented at the time. Beautiful ride on Racing To Win last week and beautiful ride on Contributer earlier today. PS: If it wasn't for the Japanese runner it would have been yet another (NZ) trifecta in the Cup. How did the (AUS) go?
  4. Turn it up Gubellini!!! The ride was an absolute shocker. I never had a bet in the race so I'm not talking through my pocket although I suspect those that did back the filly are spitting tacks. She was poorly placed last on the inner in the running and still there turning in, one of the worst places to be on a course like Caulfield. She tried to come out wider and look for a run but found nowhere to go. Switched back to the inner the filly storms home and is beaten a neck. She was positioned in such a spot that she was always going to need luck to get a run. Michelle should have taken that out of the equation. Even with a clear run out wide she would have won. I'm sure if one knows where the fillies name comes from, those that did back her will be calling Michelle Payne by the same name after that ride.
  5. Well done with the winner BK. Wish it had kept out of it though. I boxed up Rising Romance, Lucia Valentina, Brambles and Lidari in quinellas, trifectas and first four. 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th. Arrrgh!!!!!
  6. Yes James gave the horse a beautiful run, back 5th in a nice place and ready to strike turning in, just like he did last week with Racing To Win in the Guineas. Ngh did the job on Ginner Hart nicely as well. The young gun and the master. Good luck in the quaddie BK.
  7. Congratulations James! Just ridden his 1000th winner on Contributer. Well done.
  8. Correct Pogo Absolutely slaughtered.
  9. Former Kiwi horse. What a woeful ride on this filly in the first race at Caulfield today. Tragedy bashed, should have won by lengths.
  10. Politeness, Catkins & Sweet Idea Shamal Wind, Unpretentious & Miracles Of Life Lidari, Lucia Valentina & Rising Romance Cheers.
  11. Too easy!!! 2010 Pogo Descarado (NZ) Harris Tweed (NZ) Monaco Consul (NZ) All by Windsor Park Stud sires.
  12. There were a lot of similarties between Luskin Star and Vain. Both were lovely looking chestnuts and raced as colts. Luskin Star 9 starts as a 2yo 8 wins and a second. Vain six starts for 5 wins and a second. Their only defeats came on very heavy tracks when underdone. Both contested the Rosehill Golden Slipper Stakes, AJC Randwick Sires Produce Stakes and the AJC Randwick Champagne Stakes. Luskin Star won all three and Vain won two, finishing second in the AJC Sires Produce Stakes. The only same race they started in as 3yo's was the Caulfield Guineas and they both won the race. Both were retired as 3yos, Vain through injury, and both went on to be successful sires. Oh, and Pogo....Luskin Star was out of the NZ bred mare Promises (by Idomeneo ex Modern Touch (Fair's Fair).
  13. I would have rated Luskin Star a better 2yo Pogo. 8 wins from 9 starts, huge winning margins, won the triple crown and took 1.7 seconds off the 1200m Slipper Record. Top three 2yo's being, Luskin Star, Vain and Baguette.
  14. You raise a number of pertinent questions DYBI. Questions that certainly need to be put to the board.
  15. Just what do sectionals as a tool tell the average punter? Putting a horses sectional time say from the 600m to the winning post per se is meaningless. The best tool is a good set of eyes!! If people are basing their punting around the importance of sectionals then they are on the road to hell. Lets look at what can happen to horse over the last 600m. It could have travelled the race wide without cover, been badly held up, been in need of the run and blew out, the pattern of the race, sit and sprint or all going wide for better ground. Early in the day they may have raced against the rail and gradually moved out further and further during the day. Drawn wide so dopped back, had to work early to get across etc etc. The tempo of their last race won't necessarily be run at their next. Different tracks, surfaces, right handed. left handed. And a biggie, weight. There are too many variables. Eyes people, eyes, that's the best tool anyone can have.
  16. Agree Hesi, our top echelon will head across the ditch. We can't compete against those top stakes. I will clarify tonight when I have time but there must be an emphasis to increase stake money across the board in NZ and if the NZRB can't or won't acknowledge thism as in Glenda's statement then we will go nowhere.
  17. As I posted in "The State Of NZ Racing" thread : Glenda, just ask yourself this question. Why are so many of our top horses racing off shore? The bloody answer Glenda is STAKES!!!!!!! If those people at the NZRB who can't figure that out.... then they should Phar Cough! Top horses racing here creates interest, boosts attendance and stimulates betting. It's not far ken rocket science! And as Chevy has pointed out remember the Counties $30K race days. Every effort has to made to ensure top stake money is on offer and racing will flourish.
  18. Good effort today alright Rumpole. He's going well for sure. 2000. Perhaps at Trentham!!!!
  19. So have I Jess. My favourite High Chaparral mare was Linda Cristal......fiesty thing she was.
  20. Good to hear that physically she has recovered. Let's hope mentally she is ok also.
  21. Ms Scratchyanutz, Sangster is a gelding if you haven't noticed.
  22. Thanks for the call BK. I had completely forgotten about the picks. 30 seconds to look at the races and post. Whew!
  23. Norenbergs said the grooming of Trackside - notably its expansion from one channel to two - coincided with plans for a bigger profile on social media. "We need to build up social media and interaction with people as well." WTF! Expansion from one channel to two. What planet is from? Someone better tell him Trackside have had two channels for how long now. So another one brought in from off shore at what cost to do what other people are already paid to do. Yet another duplicate role! Is twitter something used by Twits? From what I have seen it is usually reactive and of little substance. Oh, and by the way, doing racing form takes thought. Social Media..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CK62I-4cuSY
