    Statement from the Chair
Most industries across the globe have faced the disruptive influence of the internet. Some have rapidly
adapted their business models to take advantage of the opportunities while others have not and now
face the consequences - declining customer numbers and falling revenue.
Interesting statement from the Chair, without saying or blaming anyone directly he was saying how the industry had not adapted there business model to the times and as a result we have $300 million of leakage. and now face the consequences, which is why our industry is what it is...A bloody mess.

I rode trackwork some years ago for Lee and he was a wonderful person. His brother at the time was doing the video for the trails and he was a top bloke as well.

You have to have a 'standard' Bimbo, I'm a lucky bugger, I get to see racing in Rio, Buenos Aires, Lima and Santiago/Valparaiso in the America's due to doing business there, I don't expect however to see racing in 3rd world countries [ARG excepted] exceed the standards here, and by Jesus they do. No one expects all jocks to be Hector Grey, he got away with blue murder also no doubt, but the riding standard here has dropped, not improved, and there would be many like me that have voted by wagering in Oz/SING/HK.....IMO but based on 40+ years in the industry in some way. Loyalty is admirable, however as much as it will piss plenty off, NZ jocks with a few exceptions are lengths behind their Oz counterparts and IMO behind many many of the Latino jocks....cue the stone throwers.

I saw some poor rides yesterday, poor, I've seen too many poor rides since I've been back in NZ. It's a bloody worry, you can forgive an apprentice and use it as a learning curve, senior jocks here are turning in some shockers, Spratt's ride on Zuccato yesterday, I have my own theories as to why this is not a phenomenon, the Aussie jocks are no angels, look at Chad Schofield, he's positively dangerous and if something is not done, the chickens will come home.
The worry here is there seems no accountability at all, the stewards here seem to be all 'mates' with the jocks, like a club. What gives? I've seen some roughhouse riding with not even a mention in the stewards reports. Now that does not inspire me at all.
Cup week down south looks like it was a raging success, with Christmas coming up and the summer racing it should be an enjoyable time, however I just can't bring myself to punt on racing here, the behaviour of the TAB is enough deterrent, but the jocks here are way behind......alright if you are playing penny-ante but if you bet 4 figures, it's a dangerous exercise. Sorry to say, my dosh goes on Oz racing, until we see an improvement. With great jocks heading offshore, the likes of Macca, Stackhouse and Collet et al it will always be hard to replace such talent, but I speak through my pocket, might seem rather scathing, but no apologies. Of course the incoming comments will 'have a go' it's a democracy after all, but nada will convince me otherwise, more's the pity.

interesting points. I am not trying to be a pessimist, just how I see it at the moment. To rely on the TAB to get the industry invigorated is like relying on the Mafia to get people back to church. The question I have though is there anybody who has the vision and passion who doesn't have a financial motivation to implement ideas and changes, round off the rough edges and lead a dying industry and if there was such a person or body of people would they be allocated the freedom to steer things in the right direction. I'm sick of the same old pretentious interests-Waikato Stud, Te Akau, TAB making out they give a shit about the industry when they are generally only concerned about their own perpetual routing of the industry for their own gain and create the illusion they are for the game when in fact they'd have equal or more passion or support for the slave trade if it were still legal and bolstered their bank balances similarly. To create a better, more functional, successful industry it should stand apart from the financial pretentiousness of an elite few and an old boys club of tossers but hey I suppose it's not coined the "sport of kings" for nothing. Sorry, I have lost all grasp of any point I was trying to make, just a bitter person with a bit of an idealistic worldview with access to the internet.

You can dress racing up as much as you want but it is what it is, it's a sport our culture has lost interest in, whether they can place a bet conveniently or not. The TAB can run all these cheesy gimmicks but it's a sad fact that average NZ people don't like racing much anymore and let's face it if they want to bet these days it's a lot more relevant gambling on sport where they have a genuine interest. There are no flag bearers in NZ  racing, there's no incentive to keep them here, we lose them all to Australia as with the James Mcdonalds and can't attract the Australian horses here, it's inaccessible, it's lost its soul and it's spread way too thin with what's left-too many junk meetings with no attendees, no prize money, diluted, dime a dozen races for nothing so who is actually being attracted to racing?.  NZ is a launching pad to Australia and Asia and has no stars, no Sunlines or Black Caviars to revive it but hey that's just stating the glaringly obvious. People outside the industry generally don't care anymore and it's going to take something pretty potent to change that fact, something a bit more weighted than TAB gimmicks.

Ted, you deserve all the success you get. You give your picks to most of us on here for nothing. What a great result, I hope  your pockets lined for the year. Not to many times the TAB get it wrong as they are usually giving you unders until the day starts and they see where the money is been spent, but every so often I find a horse that I have priced and it is overs and then I start doubting myself that they know more than me.

I think what so many of us love about racing is the horses and the personalities of racing. You have the rich, the battlers, the punters so many great stories have come about through racing and I love seeing people showing there emotions an excitiment, that is what racing is about. I love seeing the jocks showing there personalities and I love seeing the owners doing handstands an yelling and screaming when there horse wins it lets me think I am part of there enjoyment.

I socailze with a friend at the high rollers on the 5th floor at sky city and 10k is a small bet. There are plenty of people with money and they really don't care if they win or lose they just want a good time. For me, all I keep thinking about is that could be another house with some of the bets I see.

Matt any day of the week for me. Not to many times have I ever seen his mounts have bad luck. CJ well over rated, I seen him ride shockers that don't even get questioned then I see him ride like a guineas that he can be. But if I was having a big bet then it would be Matt with 100% confidence.

10k was used as that is the figure Graeme Rogerson used Bezerk.

My point is about lifting stakes at the bottom end (including free racing etc that Biff has mentioned) and then working up. Do a pyramid and base it on winnings for a season for each horse raced. Less than 10% for starters will have made it into the black for the year and and the base will be filled with those in the lower grades who have won diddly squat. Transfer that to the owners who race all the horses and where will you find the huge majority of the owners...that's right at the base corresponding with most of the horses.

Instead of throwing money at the top end (which only a few get) you need to encourage and enhance the base, that's were most of the owners are and incentives in that area will only provide more owners with better returns and encouraging/sustaining them to continue in the game. If you want growth work from the bottom up.

Racing in NZ has been either dieing or dead for years. The fact that it's taken so long for some alleged heavyweights to try and do something about it is a concern.I would go as far as saying that some of the racing heavy weights(not necessarily named in the article) have been part of the problem.
Good luck to anybody trying CPR on this game.

The PC world gone completely mad. Don't we hear that laws are been written or may even be law as I write with regard to what they call bullying on Social Media.

I really find what I have just read as the most bizarre piece of rubbish I have ever read, in fact no wonder the racing industry is where it is with stupid people like P in charge and to contradict himself with his reputation and to try and get a ownership of a horse named after his 90 horses is totally classic comedy.

What would someone reading the artical in the paper  who has nothing to do with racing think of the industry it is damming publicity that should never have got any traction. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO!!!!

I have a friend in Auckland that has a ownership of a horse and it races in the central districts.
His horse was trailing at Foxton and he was going to head down around 2am until I told him why don't you watch it on NZracing website the same night.

Well I have egg on my face as the results are there but no video at 12pm the following day. I do notice that video results have been up the same day from other trails in the north example been Te Teko last week.

Is it that the central districts run things a bit different like they don't give a .... about owners in the day of advance technology or did they run out of tape and screwed up, or does the owner have to wait till the Trackside screens it on during the week.

If anyone can shed some light as I have a lot of shouting to do and explaining to my mate this afternoon and what can I say.
