talk reacted to tasman man in Excellent Boxing Day Racing
Ellerslie really turned on an outstanding days racing.
Good weather, good track , a bumper and enthusiastic crowd producing plenty of colour and atmosphere.
And the horses and horsepeople responded with very competitive racing ,horses winning from all over the track and the cream rising to the top.
Our top jockeys and trainers certainly led the way with Te Akau just brilliant.Ditto Oppie and Danielle !
Great to see several big syndicates winning...over 50 people in some of the winning photos with Te Akau and Go Racing highlighting this important pathway to ownership and interest.
Fashions and sensible partying all to the fore with plenty of first time youngsters / young adults on course and more picnicing families than in recent years.
A sellout crowd , all enjoying themselves and mostly well connected to the show on stage.....the horses and the racing !
Well done Ellerslie .

talk reacted to Mattski in Jason Waddell
I have watched a lot of races in the last 40 odd years and JW's ride on Jenny Eccles from gate 18 in the Oaks was one of the best. Pure genius. I think he jumped from the same gate we he won the Thorndon on Shadows Cast. IMHO he is in the top handful of jockey talents we have had in the last 30-40 years.
In another life I ran a few half decent marathons and I thought I was skinny when I weighed 67kg. Some of these guys are average height men riding at 54/55! Sometimes I think we underestimate the impact of constantly living in a starved dehydrated state.
I have no idea whether Jason or one of his friends reads this page but I wish him all the best. As much as I would love to see him back in the saddle, more than anything I hope he finds some health and happiness. Thanks for the great memories.

Trump, we all do our own kind of homework to varying degrees then make our decisions accordingly but buying yearlings is perhaps the biggest gamble of all. At that stage we only know they can walk, we don't know if they can run. But invariably we keep going back to find the ones that can. Racing would be lost without us.

If anyone had being reading the track work on the love racing site, the would have taken total sass that she trains, had been working well, I find the track work segment a huge help when trying to find a winner, definitely a welcome edition to the site.

talk reacted to Cubes in The 2 Cubed reasons we went to the Rangiora Trials today
#1....Nice day here in Canterbury
#2....Nice people down here and spring is in the air
#3....NZ Cup week is just around the corner and oft punters can get good form and info from the trials.........remember 'Cafers the ol' saying....."Trial form is good form "
#4.....Can get real good yarns going with the jockeys...
#5.....Cubes' donkey ran last
#6...Matt Cross is quite a nice bloke
#7....While we are on the subject...Mark Mac was too
#8....The Cubinator heard on the buzzword that tickets have just about sold out for Cup week here 'cause the people from Auckland and Up Northness are not going to Melbum or Sudney thus year but instead are going to Chch to see what all the fuss is about.
#9...Back on topic.....when one goes to the trials one usually does not lose too much mullah on the punt
#10...Cubes thinks Cubes is a racing tragic
#11....The food was quite good although @ Ashburton they do whitebait fritters
#12....Cubes isn't quite sure why they trial there and don't race....something to do with jockey safety....maybe kilo4kilo knows about that ????
#13....Dodecahedron drove Cubes so Cubes could talk on the phone all the way there and back

While we put the All Blacks and league players as tough/hard or whatever we must acknowledge just how jockeys probably beat the lot for courage putting themselves at risk day after day, week after week,I personally reckon a lot want gold medals for their efforts that in many cases aren't acknowledge by the general population.

$35,000 put through the TAB (pick 4) would have incurred a takeout of about $9,000

talk reacted to Cubes in Riccarton Park this Saturday
Any 'Cafers going along on the day ?
Omen bet Russian Fable Race 2
The Cubemeister hasn't been allowed to go to a racetrack in yonksville so may pop along for a sly one....
Also The Cubinator likes this time of year when one can kinda back a Ruccarton race and then a Hawkes' Bay race and then a Canterbury race and then a Hastings race and then a......someone with School Cert Maths back in the day got the secret of the good joke....
12 Race card looks like a long day even for the best
Happy Punting All
Cubes will be in the Grand National Stand from Race 3 onwards for any 'Cafers fancying a cold one....

Sorry JJ but you're dreaming if you think the loss of trackside radio on the airwaves has been catered for by the new app or ROVA or however ever you get trackside nowadays. It's hands down the worse decision made by the current regime. I won't blame them for a second for anything to do with the website, I agree that was the responsibility of a previous regime that got them into this mess. But no trackside radio is simply absurd and having an awful impact on the sport, I'm sure like others many are seeing that on a daily basis .
