Levin.. Course proper is closed except for jumpouts or Jumpers as the jumps are in the back straight. No 1 grass is always open for fast gallops except if water makes it dangerous. No.3 grass open Friday and Monday for right handed working while the inside No.4 track is open Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Saturday and Sunday for left handed gallops. We don,t get a lot of rain in Levin and we only have about 50 horses going around daily.

What a great push for racing in to tonights paper.Right in the middle of the front page of tonights Manawatu Standard."A taste for Black Caviar", with a photo of ex Levin Jockey Patrick Bell and Black Caviar with an update of his progress in Suffolk and how more than 100 journalists watch Paddy ride her in a track gallop.Paddy said they were use to the media attention in Australia but over here its gone to another level..Well done to Mathew Grocott for the front page article.

Sculptor is running with Peter,s mares at the moment.Of the 5 live foals only one is still surviving and is up Wanganui way somewhere.Who knows maybe one of the mares will get in foal?

The horse was Wairau Belle(sometimes listed as Wairau Queen) paid 1032 pounds.There was one 10 shilling ticket on it so the pool must have had about 600 pounds in it

Years ago they tried that with the pick 6 run over aperiod of about 60 mins.It was a disaster,one of the meetings ran late and the races were all out of order.It didn't last long.

Agree on this one.I work at the TAB at odd times and someone asks for the next race and gets a no TV race.The no TV races should be taken out of the. next race to go easybets .

Manny Papadopuous always use to tell me that it was related to Phar Lap and was deliberately bred that way .Dont know wether thats true or not.

If they can sponsor a soccer team how bout sponsoring a few horse races?.They do in Aussie

John Dowling had 7 wins out of 8 races a few haircuts back at Gore.

What a complete waste of a race day.I do the TAB on a Saturday at a local pub and we were chocker all day.Punters had money in their pocket ready to spend and all we dished up was that load of bollocks.We did about 15k most in 1ew and easy bets,we could have doubled that with a Northern meeting or a Southern meeting with reasonable size fields.

Been helping set up down the track this afternoon.Its in great order about a 3 and tonight at 7.30 not a breath of wind, not a cloud in the sky,the Otaki ground staff have done a wonderfull job should be a boomer tomorrow.

At the Levin jumpouts yesterday they ran the 600 in 35.2, the 1000s around 59 and the 1200 around 1.14.We had 8 mls of rain overnight and lots of wind.The wind died down around 9am and we have a beautiful fine day now with no wind.The forecast is for more wind from the south but no rain.Only a couple of horses galloped this morning 38.6 and 39.4.Although were in Levin its just up the road.Can,t see it being more than a 4 but they will mark it.
