Thanks Porky and Van - and just for the record - I'm not critical of George S if this is what was said - if anything I find it refreshing that someone in that position comes close to saying it how they see it rather than paying the piper with the rest of the sycophants ...

the only consensus is that there are a number of people being paid ( note I did not say earning  ) massive salaries - and they are not contributing to the benefit of the Racing industry.

    Quite.
And to drag the content of another discussion here,  the expectation that an opening address from W.P indicated an 'announcement' - I was told that such was imminent -  has left many feeling underwhelmed, to say the least.
All that was indicated was that an allweather would be desirable.
Successive Ministers have said  ' racing,  get your house in order, we can't help if you don't '   ....and we consistently do nothing to help ourselves.
What,  exactly.  has the closing of tracks [ alluded to by Jess ]  achieved for the industry overall ?    How does the larger racing fraternity benefit by the removal of a volunteer-managed community asset?
An experienced former administrator told me that,  in his time,  Annette King was the R.M....and he found her obliging and extremely competent.  But in the end,  she threw her hands in the air and said to him ' I give up,  you lot are impossible to deal with.'
There are plenty with opinions as to how to 'fix' things,  but so many are motivated by self interest, and there is still no consensus - about anything.

tell those that run trackside - they stop showing celebrations and move to let the audience watch dogs dump on the track at some outback aussie place.

Bottom line - Govt is not a benevolent society.  When it comes to racing - they'll put money in where they can see a return.
Otherwise - we're on our own.  And it's hard to argue with that actually ...

True and I don't think it really matters. Government doesn't generally give handouts to industries that may be struggling from time to time. I wasn't there but it sounds like Peters has basically said that racing needs to sort out its own s%^t, the same thing Carter told it 10 years ago after Peters  previous wasted largesse had ended or gone into place.. So, I think participants and leadership need to focus on doing that instead of hanging out waiting for some additional handout from outside the industry to rescue them.

There are always plenty of little ppl burned in these situations too ... all the contractors & suppliers - and as Nas points out - even down to the people with LFG ...
Don't know the details of this one but in general terms I've seen enough of the brazen types who run up the red type on the balance sheet - go into insolvency / bankruptcy - welch on all their liabilities (whilst often somehow managing to hang onto personal wealth & lifestyle via wives, trusts etc) - then re-invent themselves only to do it all over again.
Never make good to their creditors.  I don't know why people would even deal with those types.  I guess in some cases they don't know their back-story ....

OK.  So in the CD they've killed off Foxton, Bulls, Feilding, Opaki, Marton and probably a few more that I can't call to mind.
Some of those I believe contributed to the RACE outfit.  Awapuni has had millions poured into it.
And where precisely did that round of track consolidation get us?  And just how well did that massive investment in Awapuni turn out?
And I think we need to remember that the abandonments have been no means  been limited to the small country clubs/tracks ....

Hi i am Exquisite Jewels very proud joint owner /buyer. Unfortunately she injured her tendon again after 13months rehab and had returned to trentham for one race. She is too valuable - 8 carat family to risk again racing. She has now tested in foal positive to  stallion Power!! I am excited beyond belief.  I rushed up to buy Game Duchess when put up for sale and she was withdrawn- rest is history. I am going to this years select sale to look only......yeah right.. good luck to all. Game Duchess has a yearling in book 1 be interesting to see what it goes for.

If you are going to start comparing strike-rates of the likes of David Ellis then to be fair you need to start correcting for purchase price - compare like with like if you will  ... because  obviously he spends a truckload of money and massive individual sums for many yearlings ..  if you command domination of the bench at the top end of the market it's a bit tough on the rest to start comparing the success of those horses (often royally bred) with the more modest types other buyers are spending much less on ....,

I am keeping the faith with the husband AND the horses for the time being.  As for retirement? - I would except for the horses.  Husband has eased right off but I can't afford to ditch the day job as I've yet to breed the champion that starts filling the black hole back up with money!
Gotta carry on while I can I figure - one day will be too old to wrangle the beasts and as I'm hands-on in this game - a few more years at work and a few more foals and I'll be both broke and worn out.  But I won't die wondering ....
    All the best, J

Love those stories - not so much the experts getting it wrong side of it - but the canny "amateur" who cottons onto a good thing and goes for it.  I followed that EJ for just that reason knowing the history - smart race record as you say Breeder and 100,00 im stakes to her name - I will be interested to see who they've bred her to as  she hasn't raced since Jan 2017 and I'm guessing has retired to the broodmare paddock ...

    Correct, Tonka.
Probably a waste of time responding to Patrick - but in brief:- the worst thing about conflicts of interest is those which aren't declared.  It's not a matter of whether or not I "like" the studs or the individuals.   I think your analogy is a poor one - comparing apples and oranges.
However I'm sure Te Akau appreciate your consistency and loyalty in leaping to their defence in your few contributions here on the cafe.
Cafers generally work things out for themselves - in terms of their views of posts - and of posters....
