    OP

Ha ha .... only VS thing about me is that I'm "Very Special" ...... but so is hubby - so I will be keeping him on for the time being even if I am forced into working until I'm 75 to pay for these goddamn ponies! ....

Open Class - R121 Report post Posted 7 hours ago something we all aspire to Sometimes in my more glum moments I think my husband might already be there Col ....
  3. If the foal's gender matters to you I'd also be asking if the foetus has been sex-tested. Most vendors can be contacted and you can do your best to get more info - also in this day and age it should be possible to Facetime (or whatever app you use) to get a bit of livefeed showing the horse if it's not possible to go to see it? Sorry to hear about your experience Dibbles ... pretty disappointing. Maybe they should consider introducing a feedback system like Trademe has ...

    Power To Queensland

Yep. I like him but agree anything over that on current standings would be too much IMO ...

    Power To Queensland

Burgundy is off to a reasonably good start but there seems to be a bit of a lull now in Burgundy starters ... going by the thread about books to various stallions he served a swag of mares in 2017 so should have a fair chance of things as he goes on ... What stud fee 2018 you reckon?

Don't know - and not sure whether decision dates back to Sir P or if he doesn't fit the bill for the new owners at Cambridge ...

    T K Allan - Done it!

Huge achievement - and great marketing ploy keeping us hanging on like that - tuned into every jolly race meeting this side of the black stump for the last how many weeks ... hope NZTR gave you a cut of that Tony But seriously - a huge feat and something to be very proud of. J.

  12. It seems to be how it all works at that level in this tiny country ... Maybe this individual is the bomb! - I don't know. I do know there is a tendency at high levels in many organisations these days to opt for transferrable skills rather than specific subject-experts if you like. But in my humble opinion this needs to be an approach which is balanced with people who do understand and have experience in what (commodity/service/industry) you are dealing. And then if Iwas to play devil's advocate - I might say "never let the notion of a meritocracy get in the way of good old fashioned cronyism ... " I leave it to the `cafers to make their own minds up ....
  13. Col you should start a travel blog ... I'm rather enjoying (vicariously) the adventures of when Col ventures north ... keep `em coming! And good luck with the punting today. PS: don't forget the women's mag market ... we will need to know who ( I'd usually say "what" - but I think the real fancy people say "who" as they wear designer clothes ...) Mrs Col is wearing at Ellerslie today

Interesting analysis weasel - thanks for sharing. Maybe it will help convince those who find patience an elusive virtue, to be prepared to take their time with them ... J
  15. She'd be a fascinating study in biomechanics (and in a number of other ways of course ...) - she just looks so effortless and efficient in the way she gallops. Paddymc summed it up .. could watch her all day.
  16. Just ..... breathtaking. What a mare.

Congratulations on your win at Avondale today. Didn't follow the races closely today but noticed you standing in the stirrups for quite a distance as you rode down to the gates - hands held high with your grip on the horse's mouth being used to balance yourself in this upright position. Pretty hard on a horse's mouth to ride this way ... have a look sometime at a rider like Chris Johnson and how kind he is to his horses and what beautiful hands he has ... not only is this a kind way to ride - but it often pays dividends and you regularly see Chris get the best out of his mounts without punishing them. And some owners are a bit particular about seeing their horses treated well ... I know it makes a difference to me and who I like to see aboard mne ... Just my 2 cents worth to take or leave as you please ... all the best, J
  19. All the best with the horses tomorrow. Colors look good on the screen! (and will look even better returning to scale riding along next to the Clerk ... ) Cheers, J PS: those Burgundys haven't been going too bad lately eh ....

oops ...A Puha post ...... wrong thread ...
  22. No idea but would hate to think, Chris. Speaking of junkets and ill-spent monies - wonder what would happen if someone complained about the governance of racing (body / individuals) to the RIU. Remember - "I" stands for integrity ..... (PS: my question was posed rhetorically but nevertheless I think I know the answer ....)

Good luck Mr & Mrs Puha

Ha N1m! - no pressure ... but hopefully they acquit themselves well! Have been keeping an eye on the Burgundy horses generally though ... hopefully Puha has a nice one

Scooby I was reluctant to bother replying to that but can I just say - there wouldn't even be a racecafe if the only ones allowed an opinion here were people who had done it +/- been champions at it ... And I can't be bothered offering my credentials to try to justify what I thought was a respectfully expressed observation ... J.

    2018/19 Stallions

Letham's new horse an interesting prospect .........technically arrived last season I think but 2018 his first serious go at the open market .... A Grp 1 winner and durable with it, winning 10 in total ....haven't seen him in the flesh but great looking animal from the pics .... another option esp for CD breeders who wish to keep their mares local ....
