Dear Mauro, Sean and the Board   I sit here today typing this on a Sunday been my day off which is always a family day but I'm in such a annoyed mood I need to put this together so I can carry on the day in a much more pleasant way. First off the greyhound board playing burry your heads in the sand and say nothing to media is nothing new to me as have been in the code for coming up 12yrs. However your inability as a C.E.O. and the current board shows a complete lack of the feeling out there for the grassroots people up and down the country. Now greyhound racing in N.Z. usually follows Australia's lead with most matters and occasionally they try something of ours but you dropped the ball on this one. Weather Cole is guilty or not will sort itself in the future however how the board have handled it is piss poor. The thing that really grinds my gears and I'm sure plenty of people in the greyhound code is the way that live baiting in Australia was dealt with, disqualification and dogs deregistered with anyone been on site of that particular raid were gone burgers, fair or not. It showed some effort from the leaders of the code at the time to basically save face with the public and were prepared to take that issues on later down the track. Now the Greens have publically stated they don't want the greyhound code anymore, no real news there but if the next election is tight and push comes to shove regarding deals then where do you think we all will be ????? Don't take the example of greyhound racing N.S.W. as they all looked like a bunch of dicks for doing what the entire leadership structure of G.R.N.Z. is doing currently - NOTHING!. Grant and Baird went bye bye and the only reason for that wasn't great leadership from the people that are in charge of the sport it was because the grassroots participant got up in arms, there shit sorted, and the right people in their circles and saved the code in N.S.W. Hell even Rodeo N.Z. have a media spokes person and their are hammered every year by the anti's. I want all of you today to grab a cuppa, head outside by yourself and have a dam good think about what is happening to this beautiful sport. Because if nothing is done fast you all will be grabbing a cuppa, sitting outside and thinking to yourselves I should have done more .....   One upset grassroots L.P. from Timaru   Regards     Marek Dunne

For what ever reason they will no longer be taking dogs in.... so who will be?.....if anyone. Surely they can iron out any previous differences they had with the previous GAP lady who always seemed to me to be genuinely trying to do her best for the dogs. My impression anyway. The list situation has to be sorted though they should go through the programme in the order they are put on the list. Sure, have a supplementary.list for cat friendly dogs for people who have a prerequisite for a cat friendly dog. There has to be a fair system with some assemblance of order so EVERYONE knows where they stand. This could be a positive thing, a chance to change things for the better...

I think you have to blame our own board for not spelling out the terms proberly ...and thats in the past and if again our board had some b.lls we would have sorted it....my point still stands on the present any loss of any race meeting effects us all in the pockets...so i have no problem seeing a all weather horse track as i enjoy watching quality horses racing....

Well not shocked of this appointee at all.  I have had dealings with Mario over his time on the board.   He is moulded very well.  As when the  vote of no confidence when through the first time on a board member he left the club reps  hanging for  a few hours to seek legal opinion so the clubs vote could sway in boards favour, must to his degust on return he was wrong,  No apology at all.   Shado Lans corruption he was also involved.    Hope he changes his stripes or I can see very little changes for us LP’S.

No a better idea would be for the useless NZGRA to do what they were supposed to do, that is monitor all dogs from the cradle to the grave. The useless tossers at the overstaffed, job creating under performing NZGRA touted this was going to happen years ago.
I remember the last time the shit hit the fan when the code faced a crisis much the same as the present one. That was about 6 yrs ago, and the then CEO Jim Leach being interviewed by Channel 1 news sitting in the stand at Wanganui stating all that was going to be done in regards to welfare and looking after the Greyhound. He even created new rules where it was a serious offense to put a Greyhound down without a Vet Certificate, and they were going to track all dogs. They even created a new position at the NZGRA. A Welfare Officer to oversee all this. Fast forward 6 yrs, and what do we have. I will tell you, sweet fcuk all, no tracking from cradle to the grave, Stipes reports that eliminate any mention of dead dogs, just changed because they were forced to.
I have brought up the subject of tracking dogs or lack of over the last few yrs. How hard was it for the newly created position of Welfare Officer to check the computer records of all dogs whelped or imported to certain propertys, and then target some of them by arming the equally useless RIU with a list of all these dogs along with their micro chip earbrand ID's, and go and do an audit. Any missing dogs would need to be identified as to where they are, and any dogs that have been put down a Vets Cert, or the name of the Vet so as records could be checked. If there was no satisfactory explanation for a missing dog, then charges should have been laid. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a prosecution of a dog been put down without a Vets Cert. This tells me they have sat on their arses and done nothing in regards to tracking. There is no excuse, they have all the computer records of all dogs whelped and imported into NZ, and they had a Welfare Officer to oversee this. They have an RIU that is grossly overstaffed, so why didn't it happen.
Now we have the present CEO telling us that we all have to change. I think a better idea would be to look at his own backyard, and review just how badly they have performed from the Chairman down in serving the code, and not carrying out what Jim Leach said was going to happen sitting there in the stand at Wanganui not that long ago.

the records are kept for the horse code. you get sent a list of horses you have/had in training every year  and must advise authorities whether they are still in training,if not you must advise what they are up to.
Greyhounds may be an easy target, thats even more reason to get things in order and be transparent. Everyone  of those who are pushing for change on this forum want to see the sport prosper and just be comfortable they are supporting a sport where animal welfare is a major priority. Real head scratcher  why those practices are not already in place and being properly policed.

Was watching the tv one news tonight and here they were highlighting the  apparent deliberate lack of transparency  by greyhound nz when it comes to record keeping.
I could not help but think of the post aquaman made last month about the very same subject, where he called for just that..  Interesting to go back and read those who supported his comments and those who rubbished his comments.
So here we are today listening to the news where the greyhound industry is being rubbished because your leaders have failed to do what it appears the majority of your participants want, all to deceive the public.    Its shake your head  and throw your hands in the air stuff.
It also highlights that in some of the threads Scooby has closed down, the very same subject matter is what we are seeing on prime time tv,on radio,in newspapers and on the internet.

If you all can have discussions like above and come to some sort of consensus your sport will be much stronger and united for it. I guess the key is to get all participants on board and for everyone to have an understanding of why it is necessary. Of course it would be just as important for everyone to understand that any transgressions will have severe penalties.
Some may say the rules as they currently stand are sufficient, and its your governing body and the RIU turning  a blind eye which is responsible for the current situation, because of their failure to enforce rules that already are on the books. They obviously need to show some leadership and need a change of attitude.

How can you be so deliberately obtuse? The rule has nothing to do with activists, they will never shut down the sport. This is about public opinion and also takes into account the opinion of the sports own members. The rule which states "dead or alive" is also called blooding which is a more accurate term. And it is the blood and guts of a dead animal that you seem sadly hell-bent on holding on to. If you remove the word "Dead" form the rule you leave the cheating door wide open. Why because you are giving permission for those who wish, to kill animals for the purpose of blooding their dogs. "Dead?", is that killed yesterday, this morning, 2 minutes before the poor animal was tied to the lure? Was the live animal acquired for the express purpose of baiting a dog and did you kill it in front of the dog? But your honour it was dead when the dog chased it! Get a grip people, you are living in fantasy land if you believe changing the rule would be to the advantage of the industry.

A tanned skin is a by-product of the food industry, a product sold and used for several purposes. If you cannot train a dog using legal means like plenty of trainers do, then you need to hand in your license. If you do not possess the skill to train your dogs without the use of blood, you need to hand in your license. If you cannot change your methodology to produce chasers, you need to go! And what about the opinion of potential adoptees? Those wonderful people who give our dogs a forever home after racing? Do you really believe that group supports your outdated belief? If blooding increases pray drive, then does that prey drive switch off once adopted? A percentage of dogs will fail the temperament test due to genetics and natural prey drive levels. Why would you want to increase that level of failure by blooding a dog? Have you read the comments from adoptee groups? Do you fully understand the harm that this particular investigation has brought upon the sport? NO, no you don't! You are a selfish little man who can't see past his own immediate needs, and you need to go as do the others that support you. The dogs no longer compete using live pray, outlawed many years ago, and guess what the sport survived.

The world changes, you change with it or you die. The rule exists, there is no room for interpretation which eliminates the will to cheat. That puts everyone on a level playing field. People reading your comments will now be wondering if the money they wagered was just a donation? Was the outcome dictated by more than punting homework and racing luck? Was it? To be considering any of the above questions is to the detriment of all. And before you come back with some pathetic excuse to bring back fresh skins, along with your usual tirade of abuse, plenty of good trainers are saying F#CK U!.
