  2. Thanks for running the comp. Think it'll be more luck than skill with the track conditions today. R1 - Washington Heights R2 - Malice R3 - Dublin Lass R4 - Hippopus R5 - Scratch Me Lucky R6 - Gallatin R7 - Villa Verde R8 - Weary R9 - High Harmony.
  3. I think that result pretty much settles it. A lot of rubbish posted on this thread, particularly by one of the classic naysayers in biff which I spoke about when I posted in August, one of the few who seem to live under a rock. It doesn't take a genius to realise she would've lapped them today. I mean it truly is a crying shame her career ended when it did. This would've been the big group 1 she deserved and would've cemented her status as a champion. Just the way racing goes sometimes unfortunately. Without her scratching Shamus Award would never have made the race. Still clearly one of the best to ever race in my book. She'll be remembered for a long time to come and if she'd continued racing she could've done anything. Let's hope her foals carry on her legacy.
  4. Racing is such a cruel game at times. A tragedy for Kav and connections that she won't be lining up on Saturday. Rips the heart out of the race. Anyone's for the taking now. Gee this hurts.
  5. Given the majority of rain is forecast to fall today (Tuesday), I doubt it will play a factor 10-20ml forecast and then a chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday. The track will be no worse than dead and Atlantic Jewel will take her place in the race. Now last time as the bookie, I took a big hit laying IAD, and you ended up with a theoretical 100k in your pocket, but like any bookie, I have taken it on the chin and will front up again and offer you 7-1 about the horse. Now if I'm willing to write a bet to lose 800k, would you be all in on the horse once again? I unfortunately allowed myself to be a little overconfident in the Underwood and was ignorant of a couple of things against her, namely the track conditions and the belief that she would lead completely uncontested and hence sprint too well, despite my strong belief she is a far better horse ridden cold. I have to say, on paper, the race is devoid of any real pace. Those saying it will be a high pressure race with a sprint from the 800m mark, I have know idea if they've bothered to look at the likely field. The only horse with any proper tactical speed is this little known import Mull of Killough who I've noticed tends to settle on speed from watching a couple of his races. Other than that, perhaps Happy Trails or Long John might push forward depending on barriers but other than that they will all be looking to swoop late and be coming from a fair way back. I have the mare running midfield off a moderate tempo and then dashing home the last 600 in a shade under 33 seconds and leaving them gasping. She has been set for the race for some time now. She is rock hard fit, she peaks for this race as Kav has stated all along and barring severe interference, the race is at her mercy. Fiorente a clear second pick although he could have an awful lot of ground to make up. IAD to run well but he could easily be too far back in running and there is always somewhat of a cloud when a horse has had an injury and missed a key lead up to his or her grand final. Much better suited on a big open track as well if you ask me. Will post my market later in the week.
  6. A dagger to the heart but I take my hat off to Jimmy Mac. An outstanding ride to not let her cruise along uncontested. As a bookie I'd have certainly taken a big hit on the race. Every now and then they do, but they always win in the end. She was coasting beautifully at the 300 but just ran out of gas when asked for the supreme effort and was worn down by a wonderful Kiwi horse. Beaten fair and square but she really isn't suited by running along in front and dictating. You'll see the best of her when she's back on top of the ground and ridden off the pace in a race with proper tempo. Time for a beer or 15 and a search for a deep hole to crawl into.
  7. If hypothetically I were in the shoes of a serious bookmaker with a $7-10 million bank roll and you were a decent client I'd be letting you back him to lose up to 100k. Would also offer you generous place money for him at around $2.80. No certainty to run in the first three for mine. Granted he's a different horse in the blinkers but he's still got a donut beside his name racing left handed and there are plenty of others who will be right in the finish for 2nd/3rd/4th!!
  8. I understand that the prices about the rest of horses are very very tempting indeed, but I assure you, the opposition will be at similar, if not greater quotes in both the Caulfield Stakes and Cox Plate. Now in general I would agree that $1.25 is extraordinarily short for any horse in a field of this quality and with any other horse in similar situation I would be taking them on big time. I I mean I've seen many a stupid price about horses in Group 1/2 races over the years. Ones that spring to Mind from recent times are It's a Dundeel in the AAMI Vase at Moonee Valley. Rolled at $1.22. Proisir in the Spring Champion, rolled at $1.28. Helmet in the 2011 Cox Plate at $3.80 was perhaps the most ridiculous misquote of all time. Pierro before losing the Caulfield Guineas was $2.70 for the Cox Plate and if he'd won the Guineas he would've been hyped into odds on which is unfathomable. Great horse but PANELS behind Atlantic Jewel. You just have to take my word for it that she is simply from another planet altogether, and try as they might, only an injury during the race will stop her demolishing this lot. Here is my Market at 115.55% Green Moon $31.00 Manighar $51.00 Mr Moet $41.00 Foreteller $41.00 Happy Trails $101.00 Ethiopia $31.00 Sea Moon $21.00 Puissance De Lune $16.00 Waldpark $61.00 My Quest For Peace $151.00 It's A Dundeel $21.00 Atlantic Jewel $1.25 Silent Achiever $51.00 Dear Demi $81.00
  9. A stunning field of top class Group 1 horses has been assembled for the running of this years Underwood. Being dubbed one of the best Spring fields in years! Only one horse anyone should be interested in placing a WIN bet on though, and that is the unparalleled marvel which is of course Atlantic Jewel. She is in a complete class of her own. A push button horse with incredible cruising speed and a dazzling turn of foot, she will simply break their hearts once again. Her win tomorrow will convince any remaining naysayers and see her propelled into an odds on favourite for the Cox Plate. If you wish to make 60% plus in what is essentially as good as bank interest, then don't be a fool, just climb into her. Might pay to wait till tomorrow though as she is on the drift with betfair at the moment, but $1.60 is fabulous money. I have her $1.25 in my market. Expect a big line up for the minors. Go wide if your playing multiples. Hopefully the kiwis can run home into 2nd and 3rd,they do have a wonderful record in it of course! Can't wait for the race. It'll be a hell of a spectacle!
  10. Just incredible to watch. It was pure bliss to see her come back and blow them away like that. When Michael was fair dinkum kidding on her coming to the turn, I couldn't help but break into a big grin. To come back after 16 months off in a high quality Group 1 race and trounce the opposition like they were mid week horses is nothing short of sensational. I hope all of you took notice of what I said earlier. She is the best, there is no other like her. Save any arguments and just enjoy the spectacle every time she steps onto a race track.
  11. Exactly. Can't believe our bookies have him $4.80 and $1.65. The Run To the Rose is a cracking field. Almost didn't know where to look. I really like Ike's Legacy. He'll furnish into a very nice colt. Zoustar trialed superbly, Napayshini is one I've got plenty of time for. Sidestep overrated for mine.. My market is as follows, running at 123% Sidestep $8.50 Criterion $21.00 Zoustar $4.60 Va Pensiero $14.00 Eurozone $7.50 Dissident $16.00 Marseille Roulette $21.00 Windjammer $14.00 Equator $31.00 Into the Red $21.00 Napayshini $8.50 Cluster $11.00 Ike's Legacy $6.50 Spurrendous $51.00
  12. He's a very good horse It's A Dundeel, but I wouldn't be touching him tomorrow from barrier one over 1400m against one of the best to ever race. He'll be far better when he gets up beyond a mile and he seems a new horse now so I can't see the Melbourne way of going being too much of a problem. Here's the market I framed for the Memsie tomorrow running at 115% Atlantic Jewel $1.35 It's a Dundeel $16.00 Ajeeb $31.00 Ferlax $21.00 Happy Trails $21.00 Silent Achiever $61.00 Luckygray $26.00 Second Effort $51.00 Fiorente $31.00 Super Cool $26.00 Green Moon $21.00 Seville $101.00 My Quest For Peace $51.00 The $1.90 you can get for Atlantic Jewel is OUTSTANDING money.
  13. Yeah you're absolutely right. Promises to be a cracking day of racing alright! Bring it on!
  14. At long last, Atlantic Jewel, the wonder mare, will be returning to grace Caulfield in the Memsie this Saturday. I for one cannot wait. Having followed every small step of her recovery, the agony will finally be over and race fans will once again bear witness to one of the best ever seen. She is a truly exceptional specimen who's adaptability and brilliance will be on display for all to see this Spring. Her opposition will be trembling in their boots every time they line up against her and rival trainers will shake their heads as to how Mark Kavanagh's mare is able to do what seemingly no other horse can. There will of course be the doubters and critics who try and nitpick any little negative they can concoct. A few will linger like a bad smell simply because they have nothing better to do. But in time, provided she remains sound, she will silence the lot of them and have them gaping in awe. From a punting perspective, the $7 in the Cox Plate will be shaved in half by bookmakers after she dismantles her opposition on Saturday and should she end up at Moonee Valley on the 26th October, I would be surprised to see little better than even money available regardless of the opposition. As for this Saturday, if you are placing a win bet on anything other than her, I would implore you to consider giving to a charity instead as the TAB gets enough money from mugs as it is! Enjoy her people. She truly is a privilege to watch.
  15. Been away for a while but I see there's still the usual banter flying around here! Nice to see Pogo making a few concessions about BC. Old Gruff as grumpy as ever! What are you on about when you say she hasn't run any time to back up her performances?? HELLO, 55.42 at Flemington in the Lightning on a genuinely good track, broke a long standing track record on the bit. Yesterdays time of 1.09.65 was outstanding on a dead 5 which was cutting up a bit. She ran 0.85 seconds better than Arinosa in the previous (which equates to roughly 4.5 lengths) and he thrashed a group two field. I though it was a magnificent day of racing at Randwick yesterday, they really turned in on for everyone who went along. The new facilities looked super, the sun was shining, the crowd was thronging on the lawn, just fantastic scenes, what more could you want! Can't everyone just enjoy the racing every now and again without having a bicker?!
