  4. Very sad to see a NZRS C0-C2 race that is funded by us all as an industry turn away young hopefuls. Surely this series was developed to encourage investment in breeding and purchase of NZ bred dogs to help grow the sport and break our dependence on drop-outs from Australia. NZGRA need to set the criteria for these races. Surely if it is a C0-C2 race then that is the criteria and form should be the only guide, if not then it is a C2 race where C1 may apply. Last start form is a crazy guide as even the best dogs can find trouble and have a bad race. An average of last 3 starts would be a fairer way. You would also have to question the down grade dogs being eligible as they have probably had a chance at one of these races already. Trainers and owners map out races for their dogs and target these races as a great way to get extra starts for promising young dogs to help them gain experience before getting amongst the big guns. This is a great example of why a centralised grading, field selection policy is needed. If NZRS is not for all comers, Scrap It! Chris Earl
  5. Her first litter are now 14 months old and they are Bombastics. She is probably going to Brett Lee next time, although we also have another Bombastic in NZ and a College Causeway in Australia for her. If you want any further info you are welcome to contact me on 033144173.

  9. My connections in PGG Wrightsons bloodstock have been interested in running a greyhound auction for the past several years, however we have held off because it is my belief that the market for greyhound pup sales here needs to be developed further first. If you were going to run an auction it has to be a success the first time or it will be the end of it. PGG Wrightsons have many years experience marketing bloodstock at the highest level with agencies throughout the country and would be a ready sponsor for the event. Pup sales in NZ are weak at the best and until we develop syndication and increase the pool of owners in NZ and change the culture of existing owners buying ready made race dogs from Australia or pups at Dapto Auction that have less breeding than what is available in NZ at twice the price it will never succeed. For an auction to work you need willing buyers and willing sellers and the recent online auction shows that we struggle for enough willing buyers to make an auction with a 100 or so pups in it a success. I hope I am wrong on this and would be more than happy to help in the setting up of an auction if everyone truely believed it would work. It is interesting to note that with the Dapto auction approximately 75% of the pups are buy backs and I can't see this level of buy back happening in NZ because the stakemoney in the race would not justify it.
  10. Hi there, we own Borat and stand him at stud in New Zealand. We are also doing frozen semen and could arrange to get some to Australia if you wanted it. You are right he was a fantastic dog with royal breeding and we are very fortunate that Paul and Diane Bartolo have entrusted him with us. His temperament is second to none and his first pups should be hitting the track in Australia soon. We have a DVD available of his races. My contact details are chrisearl@xtra.co.nz or +64 3 3144173 Cheers Chris
  11. Sure looks hard to call the 4 dog an outright winner and very interesting that the photo posted has no finish line. Does anyone know where we can get the photo to prove the 4 dog won the race, as we would like to get it framed.
  12. There is no way you will get a positive swab from meat purchased from an abatoir processing meat for human consumption. If you got a positive swab from a pet food company then they have broken the law as it is illegal to sell meat from dead animals. This carries a large fine and loss of licence and the live animals they are required to process by law have to have that health declaration form, so if you got a positive swab from this, both the abatoir and farmer would be prosecuted. If a farmer is supplying live animals direct then you require an animal health form before that animal leaves the farm which tells you which drugs are in it and the withholding period. If you do not have this form then you are both breaking the law. Farmers get audited on these health declaration forms.
  13. Re contaminated farm animals returning positive swabs. All commercially farmed animals when leaving the property require a animal health declaration to be filled in. This includes such information as any animal health treatments they have had and the withholding periods of these products. Failure to do this can lead to a $250k fine or jail term. No animal is allowed to be slaughted within the holding period of any treatments it has had.
