john legend reacted to Nelli in Should NZ racing follow NZ cricket?
Especially because there's so much reality show garbage being aired on other channels. Cricket has moved with the times to make the game interesting to watch and showcase the players.

The memories of the semaphore boards on the course listing drivers, riders, that had to be changed after every race, also the old tote boards, with the bands, and the balloon going up, my hasn't technology come along way, for the better? well that's a matter of opinion, hard to forget the good old days, things far less complicated.Â

The good old division races. They used to run a race in 2 or even 3 divisions.at Hawera at Easter.   Tote numbers used to go up to 24 I think but I cant recall how many they started in each division but after all numbers up to 24 were allocated they added an "A" and if necessary a "B"  The divisions were all under the same pool and a win dividend was declared for each division and I think 2 place divvies.   All divisions were warmed up together and quite often a driver would drive in each division.  These guys were returned to the starting area on the back of a truck or some similar vehicle.   While the first division was run the horses for the next division were held in a chute near the starting area.    As far as the tote was concerned there were no "A"'s or "B"'s so you could get a horse with the same numerical number running a place in each division whereby the dividend for that number was doubled.   Sounds complicated but really it wasn't.   And no computers in those days.  Â

It was always strange when one backed a chosen runner who ran down the track, but it's bracket mate [who you didn't like] gets up to save youÂ

Trainer has 2,3,or 4 in same race.
They all go under one no and brackets were the norm. Double the divi if two run 1 2 or 3 on the place machine.
Wouldn't work today ?
Imagine at those cheating dogs where numerous trainers have all runners 😆.  Just a bit of useless reminiscing .
Those were the days. No team driving in those days eh! 😆Â
Old Ces Donald after feeding the staff Beef for breakfast ,lunch and tea used to have 3 or 4 running under one no and always a great place bet.
Â
Just bored with trackside on mute 🔇 waiting for Stothard to finish his shift 😉Â

"A few levels down" lol.
The rest are at the winning post Stothard still working out if there's still a round to go!

Thanks, but that means nothing to me. Only that whoever directed him to wear fancy dress or if he directed himself must be mad or blind .. or both 😄

john legend reacted to Pure Steel in 2024 A G HUNTER CUP
Was a top run like that in the NZ Derby a couple of months ago too Rakman. The Dreaming One circled the field to sit outside Merlin in that, and then was closing on him very late just like he was doing behind Leap To Fame last night. He's a real Stayer DSD.
The Chariots of Fire and Miracle Mile are coming up in Sydney soon so should be some great clashes. Jason Grimson (the Swayzee man) is firing up about 4 horses like McCarthy used to do for that big carnival , so can't wait to see if Mark and Grant Dixon can de-rail the Grimson Freight train .
Grant managed to hold Grimson out in Brisbane at the Interdom Dec, with home track advantage . Mark sadly slipped on the banana, and had Swayzee ping him in the NZ Cup when Akuta was going well on the NZ home track. so Menangle might see him (mark) gain redemption and pop Grimson bubble on his home track (all going well) Â

Also looks like he's mugged off a jockey and pinched the suit at the last race meeting he went to . Looks like an older Joe Ninety .

john legend reacted to lamour in Captain Crunch
He was a bit disappointing with his first crop in the USA.  Although he left the 2. Year Old Breeders Crown winner he didn’t have a great deal else from his first crop.  It’s early days here for his first crop but he has had 3 reasonably impressive trial performers so far.  It’s going to be interesting to see how his season develops.Â
