  1. Well I did suggest that Marlborough would beat Auckland last friday. The good people (paid and volunteers in Marlborough )can be proud of their collective efforts to run a great meeting with turnovers of $1.2 mill and 1.4 mill on friday/sunday Perhaps Auckland might like to put their turnover for friday night up as a comparison? (dont hold your breath though, not good for us seniors) The ATC might also like to explain the reason why only 41 horses were willing to front up to Alexandra Park. The President and committee may also like to outline the measures taken to try to boost these numbers ? I imagine all trainers were texted or e mailed or phoned to seek extra participants. even appearance money/travel subsidy /changing of conditions to suit available horses or simply asking for support could have been rewarding. Maybe all these were considered or carried out .Or is it too little and too late ? I hope not
  2. So the then vice President of ATC proved in 2020 there were plenty of horses to get good fields for racing 2 nights per week in the North. virtually throughout the season. Assuming most did not suffer from Covid I can only surmise the problem lies elsewhere. and can only react with song lyrics with a few subtle changes . (apologies to Pete Seeger and Peter,Paul and Mary.) Where have all the "horses"gone long time passing When will they ever learn When will they ever learn...................
  3. At Port Pirie harness racing recently, ,one arm of mobile barrier fell off causing outside 3 horses to break up (of course) I dont think ever happened this side of Tasman (hopefully never does !!!)
  4. Would imagine Marlborough will give them a towelling re. turnover. Perhaps the ATC President should TAKE HIS OWN ADVICE when referring to all lovers of The hall of fame collection ( most of which is of significant value)stating they should find another club or hobby if they dont like decisions made by his board..... (TV 1 news)
  5. and only 16 pacers left to race. How exciting is that for a friday night in the big City ?
  6. Agree Iraklis very interesting comments .However I see obvious flaw in Rays statement relating to the need for ATC and Cambridge to look at amalgamation.Franklin was "seduced" by the ATC to amalgamate. That proved total disaster so I doubt Cambridge would risk even discussing it . There are 70 million reasons to avoid such unrealistic expectations. But Ray Green does make valid point that the South (mainly centred on Addington)appear to get a favourable hearing from HRNZ in all matters racing .Perhaps HRNZ might consider moving to Auckland. I am sure premises and accommodation could be found in Epsom.!!
  7. Often the galloping courses are utilised say no more than 35 days per year. then with trials etc. another 30 days so a good 300 days is clear for additional income. The cost of maintenance on all racecourse facilities is high so many have catering facilities etc to balance the books. extra income from a trot meeting or two would seem logical but as Nelli and Eljay mention, many tbered committees do not want to help harness Racing at all and blame damage to their tracks by trotters for weeks and even months after usage by trotters.(this an absolute poor excuse for very little extra work involved.) The fixed costs of a galloping facility when amortised to each actual meeting it would be logical that extra income would be most welcome for at least the Bank Manager.Fresh patrons coming to the summer days of harness racing may even entice them to attend on Galloping days as well. The Industry must work together for its joint survival .
  8. Not a new innovation WD. we did have 2 days at Otaki last many decades. and have had dual meeting at Tauherenikau last 30 at least.(used to be shared until afternoon !) Point is starting at unusual time in morning severely effects turnover. as the casual punter prefers afternoon /early evening. I feel it is under sufference any racing in the lower North Island is permitted at all. Too dismal to list all but from say Te awamutu to Wellington except for a token Hawera we have lost New Plymouth,Stratford,Whanganui,Foxton, and Hutt Park. A smaller season is at Palmerston North but very difficult to assist Owners and Trainers in the large growing region south of Cambridge to Cook Straight
  9. early start today same as Tauherenikau, with TAB s usual opening10 am only allows for enthusiasts bout 30 mins betting time. Why do gallops always get better time of day ? Anyway nice fields today, am looking to 3 winners, Private eye, Manhattan Sunshine, and Smokinhotcheddar
  10. Agree Blue , I would not bet and so it proved .maybe those signs waved put the Champ off his game. They could be donated to the harness racing museum or placed around the Committee Room with the betting figures for the race for added interest. I did note the only tote turnover figure in win pool 30 secs before race was $4750 so as an indicator a sad situation for a once mighty leading Club.
  11. A time honoured race for $50000 with a backmark of 30 metres a gift for 1 horse. this really is the ultimate disgrace for the AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB .I assume they tried to entice more than 4 participants and looked at subsidised travel and discussed with every trainer alterations to conditions to get a better field. (or am I assuming there are only 4 trainers /owners interested in a share of $50000 ?????????) Or do I"assume" too much of the ATC
  12. agree JJ, but it is a Saturday which is virtually reserved for thoroughbreds .Any intrusion and the Galloping fraternity would be crimson with rage at even thought of giving up some minutes on TS 1.
  13. Yes Eljay, with first small crops has been amazing . He is an outcross to some extent through Always a Virgin but does trace back to Western Hanover. He was a 1.46 world record holder (so perfect conformation) and will no doubt be a leading sire as his popularity increases (both at stud and sales time)
  14. As predicted above the results for A Rocknroll Dance have proved even better than expected .The end of season is near and A rrd. 4th on all age pacers from small total crops . The 1 big crop of live foals,3 year olds, He is clearly in 2 nd place only behind superstar Bettors Delight. A tremendous effort for an underrated sire in NZ . (certainly well supported in Australia)
  15. Congrats to the winners of the super stable competition being AJ Murdoch and runner up J Pitman. (writer got 44th so ok but no cigar or Spa Pool lol ) A well run competition and a lot of fun. for 750 entrants. Thanks HRNZ
  16. Last day of Super stable comp. like me wanting a miracle this arvo. to get among prizes, but remember points doubled for last day so around 1 mill points on offer.Good Luck (I need every point as well !!!)
  17. And even worse when Cambridge run on thursday ! It seems they spend more time on getting diners to have meals on course than their core business.Other clubs have meetings abandoned for better acceptances and ATC would have used the excuse that Xmas at the races had huge bookings for patrons.A record low turnover ?,most likely .(noticed 1 race had 7000 in win pool 1 minute before start !!)
  18. Has the ATC lost all sense of its true purpose. They seem to be grasping at straws to alleviate their lack of judgement in decision making over last 10 years. In my opinion they have reached a point where the trotting lovers have been sidelined completely . their lack is clearly demonstrated by tonights farcical 41horse harness meeting with all races except 1 having a horse called EnTeeDee placed ! DONT DEMOLISH THE HALL OF FAME BUILDING. Perhaps all committee parking etc should be removed first or rent space nearby. PS.my first trips to the hallowed grounds of Alex Park were in a push chair age 3 over 70 years ago. and have loved trotting ever since. What a sick joke ATC has become.
  19. true Iraklis, as trotters used to mature later say 7 years old (on average) to reach their peak for longer races 5 wise men has enormous potential. 2 and 3 year old trotters do get good opportunities now which is great but a bit of age always helps.Ivan bred the horse and its dam so good to see him well rewarded after years of effort and patience.! Ivan won't mind me stating that he is still the WHRC. President for Life...(go hutt park)
  20. Good on Ivan mcnic for getting his brilliant young trotter to fill a place in the Dominion today. a great effort for a 4 year old .(Ivan a sometime poster here.) From now on he should only get stronger and the big group of owners will have a very profitable time over the next few years.Congrats to all concerned !!!
  21. From a couch potato view , great to see warm enough to see all the ladies dressed up andmany strapless. The not so good the drone view of races .to me doesnt add any enjoyment to see horses from above. the start can be seen at normal filming level .lets hope the TAB does not progress this to first 400 metres or beyond as maybe planned. (or am I just a grumpy old man ?)
  22. doubt Tony would force Mark (Akuta) to use up petrol to take lead.!!!!
  23. Thanks Iraklis, Akuta off 3 wow My early pick and the RRDoo will need to walk off cleanly he willbe coming around as soon as order settles (thats a guarantee) and I imagine Copy That and Bd Joe will both go close. first4 boxed .way to go.
