Was about to comment on the time as well - fastest ever 2600 mobile. regarding UM taking the trail, I recon they might have swapped again but for the fact more eyebrows would have been raised again. hard to call it team driving on that sort of record pace but defined collusion to give both horses the best chance....almost, as swapping the lead again as I mentioned would have been the ultimate way to sort them out. Parking Vincent was never going to happen as Mark left the gap big enough to make sure UM got out and got the front.

  3. I've never really been a Mark Jones fan full stop! No real reason but we are allowed our opinions. My only real 'warm fuzzy' with him is the fact he drove my favorite ever horse to his last win on US/Canadian soil. Lyell Creek N, before he came back and showed whose who, one more time. Anyway, I write this as I was wrong! We all hear about horseman this, outstanding that, stockman this, bla bla bla. i never liked it that every man and his dog was the most outstanding trainer/driver/horseman/stockman etc - I would not have included Mr Jones in this category- I just wasn't a fan. I was wrong. it did in fact take me till today to realize this. Plenty of examples prior, especially rocker band and the lavros trotter lately, but what has really changed my mind is the value now held by the horse I mentioned in the title. Looked average, had some tough luck previously, but still...... Now we've got a broodmare out of mainland banner, by Bettors Delight who wins one out of every 4 starts. The owners must be pinching themselves - as must others like G Brodie and K Kotzikos whose reputation precedes them. my apologies to Mark Jones and I hope that rugby player paid you back.
  4. If they still have the 'rounding pool' at the very least some transparency should occur. Have had issues with this for at least 10 years. Used to piss me off with successful 2-5 leg all ups but looks like a great deal more might head to that account nowadays
  5. I'm generally on the 'cheats on seats' side and struggling to recover from a big punt on volkoff 2 races prior to the ride in question BUT......is the 1.50 and .50 on Kawi real on a 31k win pool and wtf was the punter thinking unless the most insane all up of all time was in play?
  6. Hi All, I'm currently an expat but with a small share in a c2 trotter than was nominated and withdrawn from that very grade in S.I this weekend. However, if I was racing at Cambridge tonight we should have snuck in to the rating 49.....(maidens to 8 wins) would like to think I am still reasonably up with the play through this site and harnesslink but have I missed some mail? Initially I thought it was a Tab error but Hrnz says the same - gallops type rating?? Do all harness horses need a S.I and a N.I classification now?
  7. nutwood (?) my fav free legged pacer - used to come home so fast (occasionally) that it got the speed wobbles. Anyone remember who trained it? I've got colours similar to Mike Austin in my head but pretty sure it wasn't him. anyway, agree it's great to see Ray faithful with a good horse again and it looked like a great days racing all round. Takes a big effort to beat all stars in a race their horses have been set for and great to see it can happen (sometimes)
  8. Race 1, C1 3.07???WTF I don't believe it's all down to breeding improvements, training advances bla, bla bla. "If somethings seems to good to be true, it usually is"
  9. My maths got me around $220 for $1 so no doubt it would have been more than useful. hard luck bwd
  10. I agree to a point but with the prize money on offer at Alex park, who else worthy would have wanted his berth. If Cran Dalgety had anything good enough or going good enough to head to Auckland, you might have found Emmett Bronsnen along side Anthony. Surely the only invitational series anyone would give up great northern derby night for is the world champs. Luckily for Dexter it only cost him a support race win.
  11. First sentence should have ended in last 200 meters
  12. I agree you have to wonder, especially the way the 2 national record quinellas ran away and hid the last 2 minutes. I do, however still have to give them the benefit of the doubt and if I am correct, and not insanely naive, it makes 'all stars' the best outfit in Australasia, daylight second. reasoning.... 1. Didn't think of the hug the wind angle as above, but makes perfect sense - would he really do that to his brother? 2. would he really do it to his father 'mbe' with this more the better? 3. With her legacy secured with blacks a fake alone, and the fact they are no longer an item, would NR, not have hightailed it back to oz? 4. Legends such as Jim Gibbs, highly regarded people such as Casey, Pilcher, etc. Would he really risk losing face with these folk. im not sure I fully believe my own logic, but it can't be anything they're currently testing for and if there is a magic formula that when comes to light, is found to be highly illegal and/or unethical, he must know retrospective testing will be done. unless, he's banking on hrnz not wanting to open the biggest can of worms of all. also remember he trained scuse me, which is now the most revolutionary broodmare of the last 40 years, he trained shesadoozie and he's picked the eyes out of the Aussie sales with fairly cheep purchases like Waikiki beach. He's shown the way how to perfectly campaign a 2-3 year old from October to the following August and peak them at the right time to the point we might see a million dollar earner before its 4th birthday soon. im very quick to look at results at any level and suggest to my mates 'he's got the juice', if I even half suspect it. In the case of Mark Purdon and the All Stars team, despite the form he had, I'm not sure he would risk it this time round.

    2 Year Olds

Although something that saw our horse sent back down south didn't quite sit right with me, I didn't have an issue with the trainers because they turned the horse around from averaging more than 2 gallops per race for pretty much it's first 10-12 starts to winning 3 races. If we didn't take the offer for the horse to go north, then I would still be waiting for my first winner. Yes, we could have elected to not accept but we're not talking about a world beater here - 'beggers can't be choosers'. The clubs discretionary powers, and the way they used them, was what concerned me at the time and still does. We were eligible for the race we nominated for, as well as the one we ended up racing in. Some others were only eligible for the race with the bigger prize money and therefore, on that alone, and despite having questionable form, they got to stay in it, when our horse was more deserving on it's recent performance. Anyway, accept I was off topic a bit so i'll shut up now

    2 Year Olds

They did something similar that pissed me off last winter with having too many noms for a c1-2 trot with 13k and not enough for the 1-4 7k one which was over a different distance. There was an age restriction of some sorts that meant some 4 year olds got to stay in the race with the better prize money, but when one of those horses had a disqualification pending, it makes you wonder if the horse and the trainer should have been balloted out for loading his horse up previously. I also wondered how some of the others that were eligible for both got to stay in the 13k race - would hope it was names into a hat rather than a case of not what you know but who you know. Anyway, we got shunted to a race worth half as much up against a horse at open class (eligible only due to being a claimer), that we did not nominate for. Guess what, we win the race, the promotion from finishing second to aforementioned drugs cheat comes through , trainer thinks we've met our mark and sends the horse back down south. A few more placings in the 13k races would have been better for our modest syndicate than winning these 7k races. Funny game this harness caper.
