A bit of a mis-fire there Guinness. The demise of the industry rests with the "office" bludgers, not those that roll up their sleeves and dedicate their lives to the noble beast. Can't see the millennials resurrecting the situation via Twitter , Facebook , Tinder and "hands-off" training regimes.

Thats a i piss poor post from sicko.
Say you are a trainer and a young person comes asking for a job and an apprenticeship even. You ask about experience the YP has had and are told its done pony club for years so you put it on Quiet ones on the exercise track. But being animal of flight none are 100% safe. If the person has done pony club for years and wants to be a jockey you could assume the rider had got out of a canter.
So who messed up the pony club or the trainer. Because you can get done for a rider having an accident and being found the rider had the not galloped a horse experience. How can you get experience of galloping a horse without doing that? So the first time a horse is galloped and it goes through a fence and the rider is injured then that person in charge liable? OSH think so.
Its not like a car where you can have instruction with dual controls and learner plates.
The intention of OSH is to bully down accidents by being grossly punitive in high claim industry.
Cases happen when the unfortunate take a huge hit to set an example for the careless

Expert Eye gave James McDonald his first Royal winner and put the jockey back on the world stage when running out a comfortable winner of the last race of the day at Ascot, the Group III Jersey Stakes over the straight seven furlongs.
McDonald settled the headstrong Expert Eye (8/1) towards the rear and was able to come through with an uninterrupted run two furlongs out, splitting horses to reach the lead inside the final furlong and come away to defeat Society Power (8/1) by 4-1/2 lengths with Could It Be Love (11/2) a neck away third after striking the front two furlongs out.
"He felt like a rocket ship out there," McDonald said at the post-race media conference. "He settled a bit further back than I'd have liked but we passed the three furlong marker and he felt oh so good.
Great patient ride on a horse who has had its fair share of  issues. 77th Royal Ascot winner for Sir Michael  Stoute, outstanding achievement

Really not a good pic from the iPhone. Now I go to photos on the Mac and cant find how to level it.
I would say the track contour is as original and no Heds in a farming context it isnt patchy. Looks a great take to me.
On another note diggers are on the tie up area and profiles set up for building. This will be a great facility!

That’s why Moonee Valley is so good. Strathayr Track with a camber that allows horses to come 8 wide on the turn and have every chance to win. Battle Heights was one of the best wins!

Show Gate was a champion New Zealand thoroughbred racehorse sired by Gatekeeper out of Minglow. Foaled in 1969, she was horse of the year in 1975 and 1977 and won races from 1200 metres up to 2400 metres in record time. She started in 51 races, winning 30, was second 7 times, third twice and unplaced in 12 races.

Show Gate suffered a fractured sesamoid bone in the spring of 1974 after winning her first five races as a five year-old. She returned to racing as a seven year-old, winning 7 of her 13 starts and ran a gallant second to Good Lord in the 1977 Wellington Cup, despite carrying 57 kg and being severely injured during the race.

Take particular note of her run in the 1977 Wellington Cup. Showgate deserves her place in the Hall of Fame, in my opinion.

Centrofold got a reaction from The Crucible in Auckland Cup...Why not New Years Day?
I disagree.  Initially I did not like the idea of Auckland Cup Day being shifted from New Years Day.  We generally do not like change.
However, I have grown to like the idea of Cup Day being in March.  The tracks are, in general a lot kinder to the thoroughbreds.  If the track is wet, it is a test of strength and endurance.   The year I witnessed Cent Home break down in the home straight put me right off wanting to see horses race on the hard and dry tracks of yesteryear on New Years Day..
The meeting carnival over Christmas New Year is successful and for the most part so is the Derby/Cup Carnival in March.
I do not wish to see things go backward.  Mind you Stakes Day in March has always been a favourite race day of mine and Autumn is my favourite time of year.  Not to mention the track gets watered for free.
See you at Ellerslie on Thursday, weather Gods permitting.

    Cheers Jane

Ted and others, statistics are truely that. Made to be manipulated. Another statistic to add to the nature of things, exactly how much increase has there been to the local economy resulting from the spend by attendees of the Carnival? Look it up......Purvey anything and you need stats to support your cause ....20% of NZ's tourism income.
Betting will tell you what the realities are, not surveys.
I come every year, and believe me the people are here. Americans, Kiwi's that have never been, Europeans that cannot believe the prize money. Ted the youngers that don't participate, don't paticipate in anything but their phones, life will teach them reality as they get to experience more of it.
The fields tomorrow are the best there is and the Derby is ours I would have to think!!!!
    Statistics are Trump territory........

Can you imagine horse racing without Jockeys.  Never mind, thoroughbred racing still has a high level of passion for some of us and it certainly has more appeal to me than lotto.

and will newbies of recent times be lining up to have another go next year?
The race it's self will always be huge and hyped to the max but I just wonder if results in recent years may in the long term turn more people off than on.
I had a wager on fav Fame Game. Race not run to suit and was never at any stage a winning hope. I'm philosophical as always about such things. Got to be in to win and this year was not my year. Hopefully next year will be. Huge wins on Subzero,Vintage Crop,Think Big etc etc etc will see me lining up for life.
Was still a fascinating race and loved the joy winning rider Michelle Payne displayed on her way back to scale and the love on display between her and strapper brother. I must admit it pisses me off when Trackside presenters say "the trainer / owner" will be delighted with that win. Then you look over at them and they look like it was just another day in the office. No such nonsense yesterday with Michelle Payne. She looked exactly how I think I'd look if I'd just won the lotto or my lifelong dream had just come true. It was fantastic to witness.
That aside,I feel this year's Cup will have left a lot of people cold.
Last year we saw the fav Admire Rakti die moments after the Cup finished. Araldo was spooked by a flag and reared, tragically breaking his leg. The wowzers were out in force. You also had some punters especially first time punters questioning why they were supporting a race / sport where two majestic animals had just paid the ultimate price.
Then this year. People were lining up in droves to back the fav Fame Game who never at any point looked a chance of being in the finish. They had very little cause for excitement. Will all of them return next year?
The winner was 100-1. You will always get outsiders winning races and most punters will just turn the page and move on to the next one. Will that be the case this year? I watched a first time punter on the TV news last night being filmed in a TAB. He was asked what he'd put his money on. He said number 15 and 19. Number 19 was Prince of Penzance. He was asked why. His answer was a classic. "They just seemed like good numbers". Good on him. He and many others will be back next year.
I watched several previews of the Cup and most did not stay long on Prince of Penzance but spent hours on the others.
One of the quotes I really appreciated this year came from Jimmy Cassidy having his last ride in the Cup. "Do I get a prize for staying on?". Obvious reference him and others being knocked for a row of shitcans by Frankie Dettori on Max Dynamite who appeared to confuse the Cup with the Easter Show bumper cars.
Red Cadeaux breaking down so close to the finish was a nightmare. Seeing the huge green screen go up was worst case scenario. Here was a 10 year old horse who many had taken into their heart after three previous courageous placings in the great race seemingly about to meet his maker. Many would have just gone cold on that prospect. I'm delighted for the horse,it's connections and racing in general that it appears to be now on the road to recovery. I'm being totally honest when I say for me personally that was the highlight of my day yesterday.
All of us will be back next year. We love the game and well appreciate the down sides but Red Cadeaux won't be back next year and I wonder how many of the punters on the fringe in recent years will line up for another go next year?
Another point I feel compelled to make concerned the NZ presentation. Why bother? Our guys are ok but why have NZ presenters in a NZ studio when the cream of the well informed Australians are available to tell you all you need to know about their great race? What the hell were they thinking sending dog caller Mark Rosanowski with his large bottle of hair dye as the NZ TV racing representative? Please tell me he's not the best we have? I was cringing. Then before the meeting is even wrapped up we have a the new female studio presenter to mumble through and shake the hair out of her eyes. If that wasn't a determined call to everyone to all put your cue back in the rack then nothing is.
I'm sure it will be the same next year. Why? Because Trackside know best.
