  2. Report coming through from Chris Barsby via Twitter that these two have been sold to Perth trainer Greg Bond. This follows the recent sale of Field Officer who is now also headed to Australia. I don’t know too much about Zacharia personally, but watched a few of Offtocullect’s races, very good. Your thoughts on the recent sales?
  3. I believe it was for Otago, *also would include West Coast circuit too? DM would keep Southland?
  4. Very surprised with this one. Was just about to head leave Auckland when I found out. Do they know The Warehouse sells tarpaulins? Might sound a little cheeky yes, but really a couple of bricks and a few of those could have saved the whole meeting..
  5. Not quite. However good point raised by Hedley re Avondale. Was oncourse today and the surface looked super. It could be a real winner with a bit of maintenance.
  6. Poverty Bay RC running for low stakes, Lol
  7. Oh yes. I’ll be sure to take that out next time. Cheers.
  8. Thanks for your feedback; I aim to work hard and continue trying, knowing I that I won’t magically become a pro after ONE call. As a point of interest, what exactly did you not like? I will definitely take your criticism on-board and believe I can use it positively to greatly improve! Cheers.
  9. Yanks!? That bloody phone eh. Christchurch boy reporting in! Thanks for the feedback so far, I'd love to further a career in the racing industry. I guess taking the courage to record and upload something is a start. Cheers.
  10. Hi all, Today I arrived home from lectures slightly early and had a crack at the last. I had a few minutes to prepare before the jump and called it off the tv. Please have a listen, it can be accessed via the link or can be downloaded below. http://chirb.it/nkf9k8 Please excuse my ameteur audio editing skills along with the quality, I was using my mobile phone. Any comments are more than appericated. Avi. Addington 27-8.mp3
  11. I met him at the races once, cool guy.
  12. I think both jumping events need to be on the same day, with a full card of races. Winter classic could have a wider promotion and become the Wednesday centrepiece with a quick-fire card. Jumping races on Wednesday could prove to be the lead-up to Saturday. The middle day could better accommodate business folk after work etc. Having a later start at this time of year is completely do-able, considering its proper daylight til’ around 5.30pm. The possibility of holding a main race at the end of the card would work well here. With a short Wednesday card (say 6 races), stakes could be increased for premier races. The Grand National Steeple itself needs to be further promoted, imagine if it got TV3 coverage like NZ/Melbourne Cup or Harness Jewels. Its all about marketing it correctly. Its great for Riccarton because the facilities are all there, so I don’t think it would be hard to implement a plan. Come at me Kylie Bax. Hah. Avi.
  13. Is it Lance O'Sullivan?? Heh.

  17. Very interested in what this recruitment drive has to offer. I have always had a strong interest in racing (and broadcasting) from an early age. In my final year of high school, I met Christchurch Broadcasting Operating Manager, Jacob Marx (who happened to know my Dean). We had a chat about the potential careers in racing before I met Trackside Broadcasters and Commentators at Addington Raceway. In particular, I spoke further with Trevor Wilkes (who happened to know my dad) about the possibilities of presenting/commentating. I exchanged my details with him and Jacob of the broadcasting division, registering my interest; that was in 2011. Shortly after, I moved to Auckland, studying towards a Degree in Media Studies; I again got in contact with Trevor during a holiday in late 2012. We had an in-depth conversation about what to do if I was to pursue a career in commentary. On the day, I even recorded a couple of practice commentaries (on my phone) of Greyhound races in Mark McNamara’s disused box. Trevor suggested that I involve myself in the industry as best I can, try to call a few trials (of any code) and to make myself known to the Auckland Broadcasting division as I was not permanently Christchurch based. I returned to Auckland with this advice and visited Alexandra Park the next week, speaking to Aaron White. He was very friendly and said many things Trevor did. He too, took my contact details and spoke about getting further getting into the industry through junior/trainee producer roles at Radio Trackside, saying he would be in contact. Unfortunately that never happened. Also in the same week, I went back to speak to George Simon, he too was friendly and supportive, saying that I needed to make myself known; I also gave him my details. Despite my efforts, it has been very difficult to be noticed or to speak to the right people; heck I even work for the TAB. That’s why the news of this Recruitment Drive sounds so good. The only thing I haven’t been able to do is go to trial meetings, they usually always impact with lectures etc. I don’t know whether the timing of my visits were bad or not, however a lot has happened during my endeavours. On the night I visited George, he seemed clearly stressed, having to call the Group 1 Queen of Hearts before flying to Wellington the next day for the Telegraph, covering the absence of Tony Lee. It was also Brain Martins final night of commentating. Apologies for the essay length reply, however I am very excited about the future possibilities. To those on Racecafé directly involved with the industry, please feel free to contact me; all messages are forwarded to my private email. I will continue to try and get further involved. Catch you on air sometime Avi.
  18. I attended the second day at Ashburton, much quieter (from what I saw on TV) but good fun either way. The Aushburton track is definitely superior and all the facilities both temp and fixed were top notch. For me, Ashburton stays.

  20. Trollers gunna' troll. With all due respect, I think your complaints would better fit a newspaper editorial. Times are a changin’ (like how the gate is a rollin’) though I’m sure you'd have something to say about that as well...
  21. The first Telegraph without T Lee in a long long time, very weird.
  22. I don’t think it has anything to do with race timing, look at Motukarara. The intervals didn’t dampen the crowd. I've been to that meeting before; there is plenty to do apart from racing. What Im saying is, a well managed program works, just look.
