  1. The Club has been busy getting on with a planned refurbishment and strengthening project over the Christmas/New Year period and you will notice a number of temporary changes in the Metropolitan Stand whilst this is completed (see photos below). Access to upper levels can still be made via the: - escalator - internal stairs between levels 1 and 3 - external stairs located at each end of the building Race Night Administration Desk This will still be based on the ground floor and will operate as normal. Exiting the Metropolitan Stand When looking to exit the building this can be done via the: - external stairs at each end of the building - internal stairs between levels 1 and 3 then via the seating bowl outside the Christian Cullen Lounge - escalator, once it has been turned to exit towards the end of the evening Access for Mobility Impaired Customers Access can easily be made available through the Twiggers Stand and Christian Cullen Lounge (level 1) link way. Please contact the office on 03 338 9094 to pre-arrange access. Members Members will be located in Silks Lounge for both the 15 and 29 January race meetings. Public Friday 15 January - public will be located in Spectators and the seating bowl areas only. We apologise for any inconvenience over the next few weeks while this project is under way and we look forward to having things back to normal as soon as possible. Kind Regards The Addington Team
  2. HRNZ need to sort out the drop back system too. There was also a notable drop back in Lancewood Lizzie (from c8 to c7) at Cambridge. She last won on Jewels Day 11 starts back ($75k payday) but has accumulated $40k in stakes in the last 10 starts. I think her new assessment is out of touch with which I think the drop back system was designed to do. She has been racing in Listed and Group races and in the process has gained a Group1 placing (a start which contributes to the drop back) She surely has been competitive at the grade she had been assessed at. Surely this is unfair as it would take a lower class horse around 4 to 5 WINS to earn that kind of money . I believe that Listed and Group races should be exempted from being a start that goes towards a drop back start. Also there should be other races or prominant finishing positions in each race exempt from the drop back system. You could find that Lancewood Lizzie may even be classed around c4-5 in the future before she can be a standout again. The lower the class the less handicapped races there are for that grade. What your thoughts ?
  3. See he won the Champagne mile at Wellington , 3rd in heat of Messenger before getting promoted to first in the Messenger itself .

  5. What do you do when a horse turns up, driver gets in the cart, but horse is late scratched because of a vet problem . Do you still pay out ? Also what happens when bad barrier manners causes the late scratching? Vetted out before going out on the track?

    Countback

Slightly off subject here. I remember the days when I was a student in Dunners and going to Forbury taking the on-course doubles . Quite often you you would get the first leg winner and in the second leg you could get both double and concession with the 2nd and 3rd runners. I think at the time if that happened with a TAB double; the double and concession was only paid out on the first covered runner home (whether 2nd or 3rd). If all first 3 placings were missed then it was paid out on "any other runner". Don't quite remember how it worked with trebles. As a poor student on-course doubles were the way to go. I remember having Bulla Mattari in a leg of the double (think it was the first leg) and got paid out on Timber Top. May have even got the Echo/Bulla Mattari double. That night Blue Innocence won the 4yo Championship.
  7. Finally Higgs found some luck yesterday at Nelson and spiced up the TFA and paying $5+ for a place.

    Vice Consul

Onedin Mach also won in 1:52.0
  9. 2Piper

    Vice Consul

Mr Franklin also won later on the card in 1:51 with Mah Sish third in 1:50.1 closing late
  10. Vice Consul ran a close closing third in 1:50.3 at the Meadowlands on Saturday Night (US time). Winners time 1:50.2 . He was the favourite from the number 1 draw. Think he lowered Dalton Bromacs colours one night at Addington
  11. If you spend $2800 rather than the $1400 you would have gotten the px6 twice thus getting the declared divy twice
  12. 4 of my first choices won: 3 were favorites , 2 were successful, the two I missed with ended sitting parked when speed was on, won by the second favorite and 5th favourite respectively. I noticed most of the day a lot of drivers went too early to attack the leaders and their horses paid the price half way down the home straight. Think Canterbury drivers not used to driving the 2400m on a roomy track like Nelson. Some tried to replicate their drive from Friday (failed then) , others tried a completely different tact and got their timing wrong.
  13. I see my Amour has won on Friday at Nelson, Never Fear won at Banks, Onedin Highlander got second at Banks and won First day at Nelson Redwood Invasion got to the lead at top of the straight at Banks but broke, obviously has a motor but very erractic manners
  14. some races are done by a preferential draw that elevates their chances in drawing the same barrier draw (area wise). eg. claimers : lowest price claimer gets the 1 draw, highest priced claimer gets the outside(or outside second line depending of the size of field). take the 3yo race at Cambridge Friday Night Moonrock, Classie Brigade, Zach Maguire and Shandale are all assessed at c1, so they where drawn 1-4 (a ballot would have been used), Stroke Of Luck assessed at c3 so had to be given barrier 5, Motu Premier was assessed at c4 so had to get barrier 6, Chase The Dream was assessed at c7 so had to get the outside. As my answer has been based basically on an assessment either by money worth or class assessment I would like you to take note of the reassessment of Walkinshaw(c2) and Mastercraftsman(c1) wins on Friday. The wins were penalty free so can run in the same grade next week. There was also a notable drop back in Lancewood Lizzie (from c8 to c7). 17. brave effort to win today, was dropping off round the final bend with broken gear hanging around it front legs and feet over the last 400m and then balancing up to make up the lost ground to pip the leader
  18. Wow, reared at the start , lost initial ground, 5+ lengths, cramped quarters 400m, found gap and bolted away. Thanks for the video link, enjoying the racing before my time.
  19. his stablemate got very similar run later on but with Walkinshaw on ,it got second,
  20. I have leased out an Attorney General entire out of her, which apparently goes well but yet to grace the track. Photo is of him and Pipes when he was a foal.
  21. it will still make a difference I believe but staying close to the rail will help just as much
  22. if you look at the betting turnover for November on the harness code it was down approx $1.5m from the previous November (stats include fixed odds). There were 14 less races than the previous November. However with Harness Racing earning less through the TAB and the racing boards handout to each code for stakes, having less races will continue a spiral downwards and money value of handout for stakes. This will hurt the small stables and owner/trainers as it will be their share that will diminish and some will not survive in the game. As a breeder I would find it harder to sell what I breed and again less horses will be bred as a consequence. HRNZ have to reverse this present course the code is in and need to do it real soon .I know Australia's new import regulations have not helped with making it more expensive when exporting our horses. Turnover of horses help breeders and owners to reinvest.
  23. I was under the impression trainers were not allowed to be under the influence whatsoever before their chargers have raced. Not sure on the rule for after the race as quite often the owners and connections are invited for a celebratory drink (of champers) .Trainer may still have horses yet to race.
